Another excellent dinner at Gramercy Tavern. I have ben coming here for 20 years...and always love the experience - wonderful food and service!
Delicious food and wine. We had a great waiter, Stephen.
Prior to our arrival in NYC, I was told via phone and via the hostess that we could wait at the bar before being seated for our meal.
After arriving early to sit at the bar and grab some drinks, the bar tenders not once but twice told me to move (not professional). I’ve never been told to move from a bar. “We have spent several hundred dollars at the bar, and you are telling me I can’t sit here anymore?” Weird experience...
After speaking to the manager, I found out that you have to put your name on the “bar reserve list” in order to eat/sit there. There was no communication by anyone about this. I was very upset. However, the manager was kind and very generous. He was apologetic and understood my concern. And of course, the customer is always right!
The manager immediately sat us at our table, we were given 2 bottles of complementary champagne, appetizers, and a cheese board to make up for the negative bar experience.
I would 100% recommend this restaurant to a friend. However, be wary of the rules at the bar. The manager assured me the whole restaurant would be educated on communication amongst the customers for the future.
Wonderful evening. Will look forward to returning.
We had a phenomenal dinner at Gramercy Tavern for my mother in law’s 60th birthday occasion.
Food- They offer a pre-fix menu or a tasting menu of six. We picked the seasonal and vegetable tasting menu for our table. We started out with a shot of warm broth which was something we definitely needed after walking around in this cold weather. Then came their delicious house made bread with goat cheese butter-divine!! I wanted to try something different and out of my norm, and so chose to do the vegetable tasting which turned out to be a great decision as there was nothing that I didn’t like. All the vegetable dishes were outstanding and unexpectedly delicious. Every dish was also beautifully presented .
My favorite from the vegetable tasting would be the Cauliflower & Burrata and the Goats Milk Cheesecake. That Goats Milk Cheesecake was heaven!! The rest of my group had the seasonal tasting. Favorites include the Smoked Artic Char and the Duck Breast & Confit. The Duck was savory, melt in your mouth delicious! We were surprisingly stuffed and belly satisfied with having done just the tasting instead of a meal.
Ambience- The tavern looked very rustic elegant. The dining room, which where we sat was more on the classy, intimate side. There were pretty fresh flowers everywhere which made it feel more homey.
Service- From the moment I made reservations til the end of the night was superb. Everyone was very friendly, greeted you with a warm smile. Our waiter was excellent, always checking up if we needed anything. My mother in law enjoyed a special little cake that they brought for her to wish her a happy birthday which was a very nice touch. They also added in some truffles and homemade granola bars to take home with you. Their kind hospitality is what makes them stand out from other high end NYC restaurants.
This is definitely a place to go for a unforgettable special occasion! Definitely worth the money and experience! We will be back!
Celebrated birthday. Excellent food and service.
We felt well taken care of the moment we walked through the door from coat check and phone recharging through a fistful of matches and advice to cab in order to make curtain. Jaimie's service was excellent as was the food. Their no-tipping policy was respectful both of their professionalism and our time. It'll be our first stop when next in Manhattan as it set the tone for a lovelier than usual visit.
