Gramercy Tavern Ratings and Reviews
Phenomenal experience. Wonderful, beautifully presented and great tasting modern food in a lovely location. Staff were outstanding - Hannah our server and Alvaro the sommelier. Prepared matching wines for each course that were not the run of the mill pairings but all worked beautifully. Great value for money - especially given the location.
Will be back for sure next time we are in NYC.
We've been to Gramercy Tavern many times, so when our dear friends were visiting from Dallas, we were excited to take them there. Unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing. The service was incredibly slow and neglectful; food took forever to come, and was often times cold when it arrived. The Sea Bass was actually undercooked. We waited an hour for our dessert course, and were disappointed with that too. All in all, it was an incredibly underwhelming experience, and as the person who made the reservation, I was really embarrassed by my choice. #hugebummer
This review is partial and I am not certain if I would or would not recommend this restaurant.
The place is beautiful and the staff is awesome. However, the portions are ridiculously small for the price. For example, the shrimp appetizer is extremely tasty but about 26 bucks for three BABY shrimp. The burgers and desserts are great! I would recommend sitting and the bar and enjoying the a la carte options.
Gramercy Tavern is definitely a world class restaurant and has incredible service, but to be honest, I was expecting a lot more from the food. You can count on the service at Gramercy Tavern to be literally perfect—the staff doesn’t miss a beat and is the textbook definition of what restaurant service should be. However, if I’m going to a place with a Michelin Star, I’m expecting to be blown away by the food. I wasn’t blown away here. The presentation was great, but the flavor was whatever. I gave it a low value rating because for the money we spent I didn’t find it to be worth it.
For an owner and restaurant that prides itself on hospitality, both my friend and I found this lacking in the overall staff from front desk to waiter. The best of the staff who had any personality was the staff member who brought the bread. My drink was delivered and poured without confirmation of drink, eye contact or word uttered.
The saving grace was the wonderful flavour of food.
No need to rush back or recommend.
This was my first time at a Union Square Hospitality Group restaurant other than shake shack, because I wanted to save I️t for a day that I could take the appropriate time to enjoy and appreciate the experience as I wanted. This lunch was above and beyond excellent. As an industry person, I appreciated the discussion regarding wine pairings and the excitement shared between ourselves at the table and our servers. Watching the serving staff also time themselves and make eye contact to drop entrees at exactly the same time at the table across from us is such a beautiful thing !! The attention to detail is superb. From the tang of the house butter for the rolls to the amazing textures in all the fabulous desserts we shared, I could write much more about how this experience was one of my favorite of all time. Thank you for everything, truly.
Thursday was my birthday, and I like to celebrate in my favorite restaurant, Gramercy Tavern. The food, as expected, was outstanding. The service was extraordinary. Without fuss or fanfare, the restaurant made my birthday special. We usually dine in the Tavern room (no reservations required), but I like the menu better in the main dining room (something for everyone--fish, poultry, meat). We hope to be back soon.
We've been going to Gramercy Tavern for years and have celebrated many a happy occasion there. Service has always been excellent without undo fussiness. This was our first time back since the restaurant changed over to gratuity-included (a development I applaud). However, we were really disappointed with the meal. It's not a cheap dinner at $129/person for a three-course prix fixe, and especially when the food is not especially creative or memorable. The flavors seemed muted and nothing really made the tastebuds say "wow" or even "mmmmm." The service is still warm and easygoing, but it felt a bit like it was running on auto-pilot. I ordered three cheeses as my dessert, for example, and they were presented to me without the server telling me which was what - something that's never happened to me before in all my years of ordering cheese courses there. Overall, my experience of Gramercy Tavern this time around put me in mind of a high-end chain restaurant that's got it all down but is phoning it in. Unless they change things up, I won't be going back - not when there are so many other places to have a great meal with attentive service that offer better value.
Service and food were impeccable. We had both the seasonal and vegetarian tasting menus and both were delicious. The wine pairing for both menus were great. Our host was excellent, knew the menu very well and was very pleasant. We were also surprised by special attentions as this was for our anniversary.
An all round pleasant experience. We had a table in the dining room, a little lacking in atmosphere compared to the buzzy brasserie so ask for a table in the mid (dining) room between the two. Our waiter was incredible, brought us 4 wines to taste before deciding on our bottle, was utterly charming and nothing was too much trouble. The a la carte food was good without being stand out. The cheese board, however, was excellent. I would maybe try the bar/brasserie next time for a more atmospheric experience but we had a very pleasant long lunch on a horrible rainy day. In addition, the service and taxes are all included in the prices which makes a refreshing change to the usual dining experience in the States.
A fantastic meal. Kevin was absolutely outstanding. I have food allergies and he was extraordinarily accommodating and went above and beyond for me, but never made me feel like an inconvenience. The food was delicious, and the service phenomenal. A new favorite. Thank you!
My wife and I have had the good fortune to dine at the Gramercy Tavern on previous occasions, where the meal and service have always been stellar. Naturally, we looked forward to a return visit. On previous visits, we had the tasting menus, but on this visit we did the 3 course option. The food was really very average, except for dessert, which was a major disappointment. Service was fine, we were seated late, but it was a Saturday night, so it might be expected. The restaurant had the same great "energy" that it has always had on previous visits. In short, this visit was simply not up to the same "high bar" that we had come to expect based on previous occasions.
The food and service were equally outstanding. My squash/lobster starter was the tastiest dish ever...and don't get me started on the lamb loin with sweet potatoes and dumplings... the waiter was charming, humble and extremely knowledgeable. New Yorkers and tourists must experience it.
