Outstanding food and service. Its second to none in the NYC dining circuit. Really great not to have to worry about gratuity at the end of the night as well! Highly recommend for birthdays or special occasions.

Literally top notch food from the bread through to the dessert. Great ambience and attentive staff.

Very disappointing experience. Waited 20 minutes past reservation time to be seated. Waiting area and bar were crowded and uncomfortable. The food was mediocre at best. Tiny portions, and lots of amuse bouche, bread, and sweets to fill you up and make you forget how little you’re getting for the main course. I’ve been to the sister restaurant Union Square Cafe several times and found it to be a better experience. At $400 for two people with two glasses of wine and average food, there’s no way I can recommend this place, although people will doubtless continue to flock to it, thinking they’re going somewhere special as I did just because they were lucky enough to get a coveted table.

We did the non vegetarian tasting menu. Several dishes were remarkable. The Artic Char was " the best fish I've ever had", according to one of our guests. The tortellini black truffle pasta was exquisite, and the wagyu beef was so tender and tasty, it was the best beef I have had in quite awhile. The service was totally professional. We enjoyed the Barolo, and the champagne choice provided by the Sommelier was spot on.

I hadn't been to this restaurant in some time, but it is still one of the finest in NY.

There's a reason Gramercy Tavern is on everyone's top 10 list. The food is exquisite, the service is superlative and the restaurant is beautiful. I cannot recommend this restaurant more highly. Fantastic luncheon.

In the past we have dined in the bar area several times, always enjoyed it. Decided to try the dining room for lunch, at 1:45. I'm afraid we won't be returning. The service was too frustrating. Extremely slow to the point where we felt a bit forgotten. Five minutes at our table - no greeting, no menus. Asked a busboy for menus who located someone, finally the hostess asked what we needed. "Menus, please". She seemed surprised. "oh, sure".

30 minutes later, after almost begging for bread, they brought out their homemade rolls. Delicious, but just too late. We were getting cranky. Leisurely lunch doesn't mean we weren't hungry.

We shared oysters, excellent, I had the lamb loin, my wife had the black bass. Both were good. Lamb is served rare, with a slightly tangy white bean sauce and a few ravioli bolognese. The fish was also quite good. So, food was good, but our mood was just not happy by the time we got our mains.

When we looked for our waiter he was hard to find. Then, the shift changed at about 3pm and a new server took over for our desserts. Don't know if that had anything to do with the service issues.

Everyone was friendly and courteous, just at most restaurants at this level, someone is keeping an eye on your table so you don't have to flag down busboys. That's why, if this is their system, it doesn't work. Had we had a lot of check-ins from the waitstaff we would have felt taken care of. But we didn't. No offer of more bread, no refill offer for iced tea.

We won't be returning to the dining room.
