Gramercy Tavern is an incredible restaurant. But you already know that. The bar is the move you want to make here, and you want to make it often.
Recently went back for dinner in the Main Dining room (first time in years), and it was as good as I remembered. My boyfriend and I loved every course of the seasonal tasting menu, but esp. the lobster salad (which had generous chunks of lobster in it). Service was also great. Not cheap, but worth if for a special occasion.
Great food and service.
Was great. Wouldn't go again. Have been to other high end restaurants and felt the experience was much more personalized and attentive.
Delicious food and impeccable service
I was very disappointed in my meal both from food and service. While our server was very nice, I was disappointed. 1. If when you give me the dessert drink menu I say I’ll take a look because I’d like something, I don’t expect the server to ask if I’d like anything halfway through the dessert course. I would have asked the server when the dessert was brought out but since it is not the person who takes your order who brings out the food we waited until he reappeared. The same thing happened when ordering wine. Long after our appetizers came out, our waiter came back to take our wine order. When we asked for our check, long after dessert, they brought out a birthday cake. While I appreciate the kind gesture to offer a birthday cake, I was a bit surprised that this came so late. However I cannot discredit too much for that instance as it was not part of the meal.
The food. The best part was the salad. If I leave thinking my salad is better than my dessert and entree there is an issue. We had four different entrees at my table and everyone was surprised that Gramercy Tavern has a Michelin Star. I eat at nice restaurants every week for work and honestly my steak at the JW Marriott restaurant last week was better than the lamb I had at Gramercy Tavern. This was very disappointing.
Ian and Kelsey are awesome! Amazing experience overall! A to Z...
We had a great night. I came with high expectations and wasn't disappointed. Food was awesome and the staff are very attentive and know their stuff. Couldn't fault it.
We went at Gramercy Tavern for a date/birthday diner booked for 2 pers. at 10pm. The place was obviously crowded (Friday night in NY) but the service was outstanding and we finally only waited for 10 min to get the table.
The food was just perfect and the wine list is simply amazing (big names and talented boutique producers). It is not cheap but it is worth every penny !
Service was OUTSTANDING!! Attentive, knowledgeable, gracious. They bent over backwards to accommodate us, as 1/2 the group wanted the 3 course pre-fix and then other 1/2 wanted the 6 course tasting menu. They were able to work it out and timing was amazing for our entire group. Food was good, not spectacular. Only 1 dish, did we take our first bite and say "wow" ! One small flaw with service...one waiter, because of tight spaces, kept reaching over us to set / clean plate
We had the seasonal tasting menu. Every single bite was sensational. GT shines on.
Fantastic meal and service...just about as good of a dining experience as you can get. The black bass was perfect.
We felt abandoned after the 4th course. 45 minutes between courses. On a large tasting meal that is significant.
An absolute must if you are visiting the city. The food is outstanding and the service. Worth every penny!!
LOVED our birthday meal of the vegetarian tasting. Wonderful ambiance, no detail too small. Service was top notch. Food was delish! Hadn't been in years and won't let that happen again!
$500 for 3 people for a bad meal. So disappointing--ugh.
I have had amazing meals at Gramercy Tavern over the years: anniversary dinners, birthday meals, business dinners. In years past, I have loved the wines, the incredibly attentive & expert service, & really inventive food.
Wow, have times changed. I had an important meeting with a Chinese business contact, and wanted to wow her. But we had to wait 15 minutes just to get a drink order in after we were seated. Then another 10 minutes for drinks! Amazingly, though, despite long waits for drinks and courses, other members of the waitstaff asked repeatedly "are you done" when my business contact was obviously not done. One actually hovered behind us! But it wasn't that surprising, because much of the waitstaff seemed harried and disorganized. I witnessed at least 4 bickering.
The wines used to be available in 2 or 4 ounces, so you could try a few. No longer. Just an overpriced 6 oz., generally at $20. My albarino was too sweet. I then ordered the Gargegna (sp?), but somewhat brought a Soave instead. The wait was so long I just gave up and took it. Another friend at the dinner waited endlessly for a pinot noir after his martini.
The amuse bouche was delicious, and the wheat biscuit good--but they used to have a wonderful bread basket. No longer. Just: "here's your biscuit."
The baby lettuce salad was uninspiring in presentation, but had a good, hearty finish. The black bass was terrible--tough, on a bland green sauce. The ice cream dessert was also awful...all three were sickly sweet, and half melted upon arrival.
And here's the final disappointment. At all past meals at GT, I got a little bag with delicious muffins in it. It was a great breakfast. Now they ply patrons with a hard, bland, granola bar. Almost as if to say, "you should diet after a meal like that." One of the servers commented to me that she had 6 at home and ate them for breakfast. Maybe they should just give out PowerCrunch protein bars.
Amazing experience!
Fun night out, visiting New York for the first time
Excellent restaurant!
Fabulous service and amazing food!! You feel welcome at every turn in the dinner process! Hidden extras make it a truly special night! Love coming here every time!
Excellent restaurant with great food and service. A classic NYC eating establishment.
It’s really expensive but they make it worth it.
Great service and food. The price was high for two person meal. Overall a good experience.
Celebrating a milestone birthday of one of the party, we had a particularly splendid meal and evening at Gramercy Tavern last Monday. Everything was just perfect. We especially enjoyed our server, Carrie, and the sommelier, who went out of his way to help us with lovely wine. This restaurant has been and remains one of my all time favorites.
Amazing food and service !!!!!
We celebrated our anniversary and were showered with great hospitality and received some great champagne to toast
Wonderful service and food.
Food was exceptional as was the service! Our server, Allison, and her support did a top notch job.
It was an amazing experience with attention to detail on the atmosphere, delicious food, well balanced cocktails and stellar service. I really enjoyed how they did some research on me as a guest before I came in. It was a nice personal touch to the entire vibe and experience.
Fabulous. They were very accommodating of our large party. Would definitely go again
Stellar service, food and experience. Never disappoints. I only wish they opened up reservations further out.
Great value lunch tasting menu with wine pairing! The service was impeccable.
As with every Union Square Hospitality Group restaurant, Gramercy Tavern was perfect. The service is top notch, and the food is innovative and delicious. I cannot recommend it enough.
Food was outstanding - service was a bonus. Our server Toni was knowledgeable and friendly and super patient with us. She gave excellent wine recommendations and went above and beyond to make our evening smooth, stress free and enjoyable. Every server was smiling when they brought our dishes out and explained what was in each dish thoroughly. We recommend to anyone visiting New York to experience the food here. You will taste the chefs intention with every bite and walk away with an elevated dining experience and a truly unforgettable meal.
We went to the dining room on a Friday night and it was extremely loud. The shouting and behaviour of the guests on the neighbouring tables ruined the atmosphere. I could see that it bothered other diners also. I expected the place to be a bit more classy. Great food but not as good as I had anticipates (maybe my expectations were too high). Overall not worth it for the price.
The experience met my expectations.
Hard to justify spending as much as my wife and I did on any meal, but our experience at Gramercy was well worth it! Service was outstanding and the ambiance was exceptional. My beef tartare was excellent, along with the lamb and the little of my wife’s bass I tried was excellent. The pecan cake was a little dry but the chocolate dessert we had was awesome. We also received several “compliments” from th chef throughout the meal, which made he experience memorable. Thanks!
A wonderful last-minute lucky reservation. 3 of us marveled at the Seasonal Tasking Menu with wine pairings. Every course and glass hit the mark with one small exception. Only slight knock was that the deserts were fun and creative, but 2 frozen courses made us pine for some pastry.
First time to Gramercy and excellent meal. Service was exceptional. Very relaxed but attentive service. Especially as it’s included. Food delicious expecially the pasta starter. Outstanding nice options for the main course and good wine list with wines at various price points. I was worried with the set menu at $129 but it was well worth it for a beautiful delicious dinner with a good friend. Made for a memorable evening all around.
Gramercy Tavern once again earns its rating as a top NY restaurant.
Excellent food, Excellent service. Look forward to trying for dinner.
Visit to NY. Always the best restaurant in Manhattan. Service, ambiance, and food were impeccable.
