About this restaurant

  • Romantic
  • Good for special occasions
  • Innovative
Grain of the silos offers a hand chosen selection of Tasmania’s finest produce, prepared by Head Chef Thomas Pirker to form an approachable modern menu that allows the character of the local ingredients to be the star, as well as the inspiration. Grain’s Food Director Massimo Mele, who is consulting alongside Thomas, has used his prodigious experience and knowledge of the island states offerings to guide the seasonal menu.
Accompanying Chef Thomas’s menu is a considered wine list, and while it tips its hat to a selection of mainland and international picks, the list takes the majority fill from handpicked local selections.
The restaurant itself, located inside converted grain silos, displays unique features drawing on the buildings industrial and agricultural past. Featuring luxe, earthy tones, reclaimed timber with contemporary settings, this natural style extends from the design to the delivery of service.

We had a iris lunch with 3 small children (under 3), one of the chefs came out and kept the girls entertained while mums enjoyed heir lunch. The food was amazing and definitely reasonably priced. Lovely light and calming open space to enjoy lunch on a sunny day.

The menu was very small, overpriced, boring, the meals when we revived them very underwhelming, 2 slices of bread for $6 ?😡 service was very good, but everything else Ker it down, end of night we needed to split the bill, we were given a calculator to add up what we needed to pay for as there computer system won’t let them split the bill? Very poor for a new establishment, but the staff were very apologetic and said how they were very frustrated with it as well, overall very disappointed and will not return anytime soon 🙁🙁🙁

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Launceston. The food is always exceptional and the service is very good. Highly recommended.

Great views down the river, classical elegance all round, including the menu which is perhaps a little limited. The wine list starts a little on the pricey side. The mushrooms with truffle oil were undoubtedly the star of the show.

Great service and yummy food. The only down was a little longer of wait between entree and main but I think this was due to a bigger table order coming out before ours.

Sadly over-hyped. Food was average. Side dishes were ordered and only arrived after our main dishes when we pointed out their absence (we appreciated having them removed from the bill). The chairs are uncomfortable and too short for the table. Fine if you are 2 m tall maybe. The decor of the public areas of the hotel including the restaurant are clearly done on the cheap. Launceston has much better to offer.
