Dirty. Noisy. smelled. Bad service.
Made reservation for my birthday. Was told that it was open seating so we had to find our own seats on a busy Sunday! Also, after searching for 10 mins we found a table outside that was very dirty with dishes. We had to track down staff to request to have it cleaned. Lastly, we placed our order after waited to be waited on, the appetizer and entree came out at the same time. The meals were not spread out. Needless to say that was our first time and last. Very disappointed
Were a little short on wait staff. But was prob the time of day... Great food!
Was very nice, thought we would be able to sit outside but was told had to be inside with our reservation.
It took an hour to get our food after placing the order and that was after having to go to the bar to order as none of the waiters came to our table. Our food came out slightly above room temperature and was very bland. The only thing they had going for them was a good beer list an rooftop view. Don't recommend if you're hoping to get good food or service.
Food was good. Love the atmosphere, would definitely come back.
Hello! Wanted to give a shoutout to our waitress tonight, Ari! She was on top of our orders and was prompt about giving us water and beer refills and bringing us our food! 😍😁
Also, wanted to say Thank You Grain for an awesome first time experience there! We had a great time tonight!😍😁 So much fun!
Beautiful location, excellent food, service was a little slow but worth it when the food got there!
With the majority of our family members scattered from NYC to LA, preparing, cooking, and cleaning up a thanksgiving meal for three just did not have great appeal. Going to Grain for their Thanksgiving buffet was the perfect option. The abundant choices were certainly more than we would have prepared. The turkey was moist and flavor-full and we are all still raving about the all important stuffing. Service was attentive, friendly, and timely.
While there is something memorable about cooking the Thanksgiving meal at home, this year's fest at Grain will be remembered for a very long time and will be the number one option next year.
We had Thanksgiving Dinner there. What the staff lacked in energy (both hosts and waiters were definitely NOT wanting to be there on Thanksgiving) they made up for in an excellent selection. It was a traditional Thanksgiving meal with...so much more!
Brunch drink specials were awesome. We had such high hopes for the food. Nothing we ordered from the menu was great, except the breakfast potatoes. My friend ended up getting the buffet because she was so underwhelmed with her menu choice. Everything she got was cold. However, I would definitely go back for the ambiance and drinks specials.
This was an incredibly negative experience from multiple angles and I would never return to this restaurant and would recommend against others coming here
1). You cannot reserve an outdoor table despite what opentable says, do not believe it.
2). It took approximately an hour to get any food, including appetizers.
3). The service was sporadic and we would go 30 minutes without seeing a server
4). The food was drastically overcooked near to the point of being inedible. Specifically the tritip.
5). When I brought up these issues with the manager, the server came up after the fact and called me an aho to my face.
This was possibly the single most disappointing dining experience I have ever had. I highly recommend you find a different restaurant in downtown Norfolk.
Enjoyable evening watching the sun go down on the open deck.
Great brunch lovely atmosphere I would recommend this restaurant for a destination for anyone who enjoy waterfront dining in a small city.
Brunch is excellent. Definitely try to get there early or make a reservation. $1 Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s!
Great food great vibes - need I say more ? A great place to ha g out at any time of the day.
Getting reservations was a little tough but so glad I got them! Was there for brunch and it was perfect. The selection of food you get at the buffet to the beers on tap. The only thing I would say negatively is that the server wasn’t too great. She was polite but took her very long to do simple things.
I would recommend this place to my friends and family
We went for brunch. We were seated immediately with reservations which was refreshing. The food in the chafing dishes was below average. The pastries were store bought, the taco station and omelette stations are minimal-not enough offerings. The mimosas were good and a bargain at 1.00. I felt the atmosphere was chaotic due to so many people. It felt like a youngster hangout. No more to me. My 19 year old liked it.
I loved the view. You can sit inside or out on the patio. The food was fantastic. Lots of choices and all very good. I had a nice sampling of several dishes and enjoyed them all.
I was there to celebrate my birthday brunch. It was a very nice experience, the brunch was excellent especially our server Caleb. I ran into a little bit of a hassle when I came to check in, because they had my reservation wrong but the manager quickly fixed it. From there everything was so good. I really enjoyed myself there and I will surely be letting my friends know to come to The Grain especially for brunch
Great time, experience and food! Sara was a truly amazing professional!!!
The service was underwhelming...however, the food was great at the buffet. They had for $15 and $1 mimosas you can't beat that!
The setting is perfect for enjoying good weather. I have been for brunch twice now and each time was underwhelming unfortunately. I made reservations which was unnecessary. Plenty of open tables indoors in the mid-late afternoon. Outdoor seating is first come first serve. The microbrew options are extensive and cocktails are tasty. The brunch menu is VERY limited and ends at 3pm. This past Sunday,by the time we got there in the afternoon around 2 ish, many items were sold out -which seemed odd as the menu is set, not seasonal. We had to flag down a staff member to ask for water after sitting for 5-10 minutes. Our waitress was attentive once she engaged. It took approximately 45 min after placing our order before we were served. In all fairness it was a holiday weekend and she did let us know ahead of time that the kitchen was running behind. I had a beef tenderloin brunch item that was overcooked and tough (I'm not entirely certain it was actually tenderloin). My friend had the crab bennie which she enjoyed and described as one of the best benedict 's she has had in the area. The live music was very good, only so loud you had to yell to have a conversation if you were indoors. Best to sit behind the bar area or outdoors if you want to hear well. Overall a great atmosphere, just not sure the drink menu makes up for the rest.
Grain is a fun spot! The rooftop deck is a great gathering place and the views are lovely. Our Sunday brunch fare was very good once we finally got it. The only reason I rated service Poor is because it took over an hour for us to be served. That being said, our server was a good guy - it wasn't his fault - and management comped our meals. We weren't really in a hurry so no harm, no foul. Grain made it right. I will give them another try.
Wonderful experience at The Grain! Ariane was an awesome server and made the experience super fun for a family get together. I will definitely be coming back - great time! :)
Beer was great! Wish we could make a flight out of any of the beers. Kale salad was not impressive. The kale was old and browning. It was pretty small and over priced. The cavalier burger was ok. Mine was a little crispy. Garlic fries were great! The best part was the appetizers! The Irish nachos were awesome! The pancake apps were great too. Should have gotten two of them instead of the actual entree. We did appreciate them moving our reservation indoors. We had reserved seats outdoors but it was raining all evening.
Our waitress Erin T. was amazing. She was extremely friendly and had a warm and welcoming smile. She was attentive to our parties needs and was very proactive in bringing us refills. She was extremely professional and courteous and I would definitely recommend this place for brunch. Great views from on top of the beautiful Hilton hotel and a fun vibe and atmosphere.
Enjoyed the view and our server was very nice however they were severely understaffed and it took us almost 2 hours to get our food
Food had a great flavor. Unfortunately, two of our meals (the avocado toast) were very hard to eat . The toast it was on was rock hard. I loved the ambiance however and al the other meals were delicious. Plus it is hard to beat $1 (good tasting) mimosas!
Our server, Jess, was great and friendly! Food was delicious and the views were amazing.
Got the Avocado Toast and the poached eggs were undercooked
We stopped in for brunch. The food was really interesting and very good. Everyone seemed to be having a good time, including the little girl dancing around the fireplace. This is not a place for a romantic quiet meal, but if you can deal with the noise level, the food was solid (though the did have to be reminded to bring the egg for the steak and eggs). Service was quick and they did seem to sincerely care how we liked our experience. The hostess even asked on our way out if we liked the food and when we said yes, asked which of the choices we'd made.
Good atmosphere, brunch menu looks great; Arepas were tasty but avoid Monte Cristo breakfast sandwich - greesy and not much pork belly, most of it was fatty and left stomach sour the rest of the day. Good beer selection and atmosphere.
Food and ambience were excellent. Service was very slow.
Amber was awesome! We love this place! From the food to the atmosphere, everything is always on point.
AMazing everything. Thank you Amber for the excellent service. Matt added to it. A great brunch. We ll be back ! Thank you !
My friends and I met here for Sunday brunch and it was an awesome experience! The restaurant is so nice and filled with greenery . The food was really good , I got the breakfast burger and it was really tasty .
We had reservations for an early dinner. Once we were seated, it took about 15 minutes to order drinks. After the waiter brought them he disappeared. About 20 minutes later, he sent someone else to take our order. Food came out quickly and was delicious. Had to wait another 20 minutes after asking for our check to finally have the hostess go find it for us. Waiters really need some more training on checking back with their guests and being more efficient. By the way, during all this, the manager was standing around the floor on his cell phone most of the time we were there, oblivious to the chaos going on around him.
Although this restaurant has an AWESOME location, great decorations, and provides a free photo booth (nice touch); the food was absolutely sub par!! I think almost everything was ordered from the menu, based on the size of the party and I can truly say the only things we liked were the buffet and Irish Nachos. I tried the tacos and took one bite from before putting them down very disappointed. I cannot think of a time I've ever done that anywhere.
Highly recommend changing up the menu and adding more of choices!!!
