Unfortunately, we came when there was really bad weather so we didn't get to experience the patios, but the views were great. Lot of beer to choose from. Certainly what you'd expect from a beer garden. We will return when weather improves.
Beautiful place. Will definitely be back. Tons of beer to choose from, small menu but fit right for the concept.
Came in early had a couple beers. View is awesome. Service was good. Left and came back later that night. Entertainment was great. Good live music. Didn't eat. Didn't need a reservation.
Came back, still great. Regular spot of mine. Still need to make it to brunch. Heard good things.
Another visit to the Grain. Always a good experience. Best view in the area.
Friday Night, Fun times. Good beer, great view. Fun staff.
Made a reservation this time. Place was great again. Batting 1000.
Food was okay, menu is not extensive, Happy hour prices are pretty good. The service needs improvement, there were plenty of servers walking around but it took a while for someone to look our direction we actually had to flag them down.
I also made a reservation through open table and when I approached a server about it he had no clue what I was talking about, didn’t think they were on OpenTable… But here I am commenting on my reservation.
Awesome looking place. Good service. Looks like tons of great beer although I'm not a beer drinker. Menu is smaller than I'd want for dinner but it looks like a happening spot.
Second time here. Heard the acoustic act they were having was good so we checked it out. Got in early cause they don't take reservations past 6 but he started at 7 so it worked out. Still best views in Norfolk and beer.
Thanks Douglas! Appreciate your visit.
Came in for conference this past week. Visited Grain a couple times while in town. Each time, great beer, great entertainment, great views. Food is good but small menu. Definitely more comfort and snack foods. Goes well with a beer concept.
Thanks Dale. Appreciate your visit.
Hostess was not welcoming. Reservation had us seated in the middle of the room even though the restaurant was mostly empty. When we asked about possibly being moved to another more out of the way table we were met with a blank stare. Waitress did not seem interested in having us stay past one drink and a quick bite—so we left and found somewhere else to spend our money. Very disappointed in this dining experience.
We had reservations yet were put at a table with another large group which was very loud. Not a big problem but the noise level was very very high.
Also, our waiter was good but 3 times the folks bringing food to tables brought others food to us (obviously we told them it was not ours).
We've been here before and had to return. Didn't reserve a table last time. Don't think we really needed to but the hostess was friendly and seated us right away. Got pretty busy after we sat so probably a good thing. We'll see you next time.
Cool spot...…..Lots of beer, good music great view.....we will return
Fun place. Fun environment. Tons of beer. Not very much food on the menu but good for a beer garden.
Grain isn't your typical restaurant if that's what you're looking for. It is what is says it is, a beer garden. Food is simple but filling, over 100 beers on draft. Had really good live entertainment tonight and Devil's Backbone was on hand handing a bunch of free stuff out...can't beat that. We'll be back.
Not what we expected but for what it is, this place is really cool. This wouldn't be my first choice for quiet family dining but the atmosphere was upbeat, the beer list was extensive and the food was simple but good.
I went for my birthday lunch it was Great
I love my food and the sever was great as well
We will return again
We were looking forward to lunch at Grain. We sure were disappointed. Service was terrible. We had to flag down the waitress to get our drinks and then we ordered the pretzel for an appetizer to share. Once we were done with the appetizer, it was a good half hour or longer before we decided to flag down the waitress again to order our meal. Never an apology or a reason why she had abandoned us. My daughter and I ordered the cheesesteak which was very salty. My husband ordered the fish tacos which were ok. Of course we had to get our waitress to give us our check so we could leave. Needless to say, we will not be returning...
Food and atmosphere was great. Will definitely be returning!
I would recommend because of the view and the food. The service was lacking, slow, forgotten items and a spill. Complaints fell on deaf ears with the management.
You cannot beat the view! Nice breeze, friendly staff, good food. Perfect place to get together after work for a drink with friends or a perfect date night.
The venue is beautiful and the view is unparalleled in the area. The table service was something left to be desired at the end - we waited for the check longer than necessary and felt completely ignored by that time. The food was good but overpriced. The coleslaw was terrible. Would only go for the drinks and the view.
I made a reservation but it was open seating. Someone came up to our table and removed the plates that were dirty; they indicated we would have a server soon. At least 20 minutes passed before I got up and asked for service. The food took another 30 minutes to arrive. The fries were cold and the kitchen must have been overwhelmed because the bread on the burger and tortillas on our tacos were burnt. Additionally, when I asked another drink, they brought me the wrong one. View is nice but service is subpar.
The guy at the front was a drag and completely skipped the people in front of us waiting for a table as well. Very rude and could barely hear his voice. Bad choice of person to leave a first impression. The rooftop was disgusting and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned from the night prior. The rooftop itself is a great place for views, but the whole experience was ruined by the weird service, slow service, over priced everything and overall dirty place. I didn’t see inside and maybe things were different in there, but I won’t go back to try it again.
Fun environment and great service! The food was good. Ordered Bang Bang Shrimp and Irish Tots for appetizers, Wing Platter and Cheesesteak for the entrees and Funnel Cake Fries for dessert. The Bang Bang Shrimp, Wings and Funnel Cake Fries were AMAZING!! Would definitely return for those. :) But the Cheesesteak was awful. The meat was tough and chewy. Half of it was gristle and not edible at all which was very disappointing. Went on a Tuesday evening and it was open seating which was a little tricky. Had to pull two tables together to seat 3 people. Once we were seated, we were greeted by the friendliest server in the house. She was pleasant, helpful and very attentive. Overall good experience, would return.
Despite making a reservation they still had to push a table together for us… Service was terrible from the moment we walked in. No one waited on us for half an hour until I finally got up and asked. All our hamburgers came out of the kitchen without indication of how they were cooked so we had to sort it out at the table ourselves. Even our drinks came out extremely slow.
Very beautiful and laid back establishment. Very nice to chill and have a drink. The food has a lot to be desired. Portions are very small.
Dirty. Noisy. smelled. Bad service.
Made reservation for my birthday. Was told that it was open seating so we had to find our own seats on a busy Sunday! Also, after searching for 10 mins we found a table outside that was very dirty with dishes. We had to track down staff to request to have it cleaned. Lastly, we placed our order after waited to be waited on, the appetizer and entree came out at the same time. The meals were not spread out. Needless to say that was our first time and last. Very disappointed
Were a little short on wait staff. But was prob the time of day... Great food!
Was very nice, thought we would be able to sit outside but was told had to be inside with our reservation.
It took an hour to get our food after placing the order and that was after having to go to the bar to order as none of the waiters came to our table. Our food came out slightly above room temperature and was very bland. The only thing they had going for them was a good beer list an rooftop view. Don't recommend if you're hoping to get good food or service.
Food was good. Love the atmosphere, would definitely come back.
Hello! Wanted to give a shoutout to our waitress tonight, Ari! She was on top of our orders and was prompt about giving us water and beer refills and bringing us our food! 😍😁
Also, wanted to say Thank You Grain for an awesome first time experience there! We had a great time tonight!😍😁 So much fun!
Beautiful location, excellent food, service was a little slow but worth it when the food got there!
With the majority of our family members scattered from NYC to LA, preparing, cooking, and cleaning up a thanksgiving meal for three just did not have great appeal. Going to Grain for their Thanksgiving buffet was the perfect option. The abundant choices were certainly more than we would have prepared. The turkey was moist and flavor-full and we are all still raving about the all important stuffing. Service was attentive, friendly, and timely.
While there is something memorable about cooking the Thanksgiving meal at home, this year's fest at Grain will be remembered for a very long time and will be the number one option next year.
We had Thanksgiving Dinner there. What the staff lacked in energy (both hosts and waiters were definitely NOT wanting to be there on Thanksgiving) they made up for in an excellent selection. It was a traditional Thanksgiving meal with...so much more!
Brunch drink specials were awesome. We had such high hopes for the food. Nothing we ordered from the menu was great, except the breakfast potatoes. My friend ended up getting the buffet because she was so underwhelmed with her menu choice. Everything she got was cold. However, I would definitely go back for the ambiance and drinks specials.
