Grain & Gristle
Be aware that we block out lots of seats for walk-ins, and are unable to accommodate reservations on Friday and Saturday nights, from 5pm till close. So, if there isn't a seat to reserve here, there is likely still a seat waiting for you!
Excellent, friendly service! The burger was one of the best I’ve had in a long time. The delicata squash was delicious. We’ll be back.
What an adorable place with amzing food and service. Will definitely be back!
Service was a little slow but it was worth the wait. Delicious food!
Unbelievable new menu!
The food was good but it was not hot when it was served. As a professional chef myself, it doesn't matter how good the food is if it is not hot for the customer.
Ok, this is NOT a slam on this place. I LOVE the people running this establishment. This was the first time we tried them for dinner. We usually hit them up for brunch and it is VERY VERY good. ( Hi Julie!)
I ordered the porkchop and my sister ordered just a salad and some shrimp fritters. The fritters were great! The rest....not great. Chop was 60% fat. It was supposed to include asparagus, but even the server hard a hard time seeing any on the plate. The salad was drenched in dressing so was just picked at as my sister was too shy to return it and I didn't want to fight with her about it. LOL The server understood the situation and provided us a complimentery slice of pie.
I know you can do better G&G!! We loved and miss Old Salt and we are counting on you to monitor what comes out of the kitchen. The food really needs to match the increadable service your crew is putting out there. I will be back and try the chop again!! Hugs and success! Rick
My friend was served a pork chop that was 80% fat. The server suggested that this was just a random occurrence. However, someone saw this Pork before it was prepared and decided it was acceptable, it was not.
I was disappointed with the obvious chip on the shoulder of our server. She was not pleasant and it showed in every interaction we had with her. I have no idea what that was about but it was from start to finish. This was my second time here and I was 50/50 on it so we gave it another try. We will not be back a third time. The food was just OK.
The staff here is always the best. We brought two small children and they were immediately brought cheese and fruit plates. The food is great too!
This place continues to be the most reliable, underrated amazing go to spot for us. Whatever time of day, we can count on G&G to have space for us with no wait and an amazing meal.
What a great place for a drink and meal.good service, good food, highly recommend
Already recommended to several people - the burger is amazing! Very excited to go back -
We had a group of ten. Service and good all had rave reviews from drinks to dessert. The dinner for two that many of us shared was an incredible value
Nice, casual place with subtle elegance. Impeccable service and excellent availability for large parties at short notice. Only thing is I wish there would have been more vegetarian options for main plates.
Great value, friendly service, outstanding locally sourced ingredients. Kid friendly!
Limited selection fir lunch. Good just ok
We tried the beer braised beef and the burgers. I liked the brioche buns that comes with the burgers, it was moist and crispy, overall the food was ok but we thought too pricey for what we get.
I loved the food ! The waitress was amazing. You must have the homemade deserts
Beef Stroganoff was so salty it was inedible. Sent back and got arugala salad that was way ovwerpriced although our server was really nice. Very limited menu. I would not retrun
Great place. Food was great. Beers were great. Service great. Prices were good.
I would recommend this place to my friends.
I have been wanting to eat here and the first time was a disaster! I am sure that the person handling our table was high. Don't want to be mean but she was not with it and had a hard time understanding. She walked away from the table I thought she was she was going to trip on her feet. On top of that she got our order wrong. Very disappointing. A bright spot, they have great beer.
Food not up to hype. Burger small and just not good enough for pdx standards. We loved our server however:)
Great for meat eaters—probably pick another spot if there are vegetarians in your party.
We have eaten here several times and really like it and loved Old Salt. The burger wasn't like the burger at Old Salt even though we heard it was. My husband ordered onion rings w/his burger that were like the French's' onions you put on top of bean casserole (really thin and cold). My stroganoff was good, but not that much for the price. We think it was just an off night - during the holidays.
Casual get together - atmosphere was great - burgers were fantastic.
New to the Portland area, we have been on a mission to find the best burger. We believe, having tried it twice now, this is it! Best burger in Portland! Love the casual, easy experience!
The burger is legit. Friendly staff, food came out quickly, giant portions. Happy camper!
Historically a favorite place and I’m hoping the service and food on our last visit was an aberration. Over 45 min to get food which was not up to expectations. Had to ask for napkins and silverware. Over easy eggs with broken hard cooked yolks and bacon charred crispy black. The table next was well into a second or third round of breakfast drinks and the 4 of us at our table couldn’t hear our own conversation.
Great for a lazy Sunday brunch, wasn't too crowded either!
Delicious food and great prices!
Stopped in with the lady for a night out and was very pleased with the simple but elegant offerings from local whiskey to house made cheese. Wonderful experience, food came out promptly and the server was very attentive without being over barring (that's a hard balance to find sometimes). We will definitely be back to try more cocktails and explore some more of the menu.
Excellent experience! Great food and the best beers in town. Can't wait to go back and try other menu items!
Food was good but very understaffed that led to very slow service.
Our server was great. Food amazing. We arrived at 5:45 and ordered at 6:20. Our food came at 7 due to a full patio and full house. We didn’t think to order more appetizers and got a bit hangry. Other than that the
Mussels frites, seafood special and bbq were all delectable.
We were visiting Portland and found this in a guidebook. What a delight. They elevated everyday items to an art form. The crisp lettuce and fresh roll made my hamburger perfect. We also had the onion rings and Philly Cheesesteak. Such a joy!
We went to G&G expecting to have their excellent burger but ended up ordering their Twofer. It was an excellently prepared pork loin with potatoes, asparagus and salad. It was a delicious selection and excellent value. We'll be back soon.
The salad and pork shoulder my husband ordered were great. I was craving a burger and against my better judgment that is what I order. The patty was over salted and I order it with the blue cheese which it made more salty. The French fries were even more salty! The strawberry pie was jumy even though the crust was a little too hard. Overall good value for the food. Waitress was helpful and service was quick.
Delicious! We always enjoy Grain & Gristle for its comfort food. The twofer is an amazing deal. Usually has a beer we like too.
