The idea of Gracias Madre was first conceived while visiting the families of our employees in Mexico. We wanted to do both; offer organic Mexican food to the communities we serve as well as honor the mothers who work tirelessly in the kitchens of Mexico and often live without their husbands and children while they work side by side with us in California. Inspired by some of the recipes of these families and the love of their mothers, Gracias Madre serves organic, farm fresh, locally sourced food, full of flavor and love with a menu spearheaded by Executive Chef Chandra Gilbert and agave-based cocktail program by Beverage Director Jason Eisner.
Food was a little underwhelming and lacked flavor. The cauliflower and crab cakes were pretty good but the guacamole and my main dish were just ok. I took four bites of the main dish before cutting my losses. I’d recommend it to my vegan friends for sure but it wasn’t for me.
One hostess wasn't very proficient, we waited 45 minutes to be seated despite a reservation. Apparently, they never confirmed when we walked in the door so we had to talk to someone else to get seated. The rest of the staff was good, food was great, but overall they seemed understaffed.
Called to say we would be late as there was an accident en route, we were 5 mins past the window ( valet was slow) and they knocked us off to a wait list , luckily we found a spot at the bar as they didn’t get around to finding us a table until 2.5 hours later! Good however was outstanding
Awesome experience. Great food and great service. Would go back for sure.
Delicious vegan food, interesting, delicious drinks.
The food and atmosphere was incredible! Definitely go back next trip to LA :)
Went for my daughters birthday celebration. Everything was very nice. Food was great. Drinks too!
Delicious vegan food, comfortable but chicly hip decor, pretty patio where you can bring your dog. Would come here again!
I wish I could remember our waitress name. She was amazing! First timers and she did not make us feel stupid with all the questions we had. She was upbeat and fun and all her recommendations were spot on. Will be visiting again soon.
Great food and great environment. I had reservations at 8:15 for two and didn’t get seated until 20 mins later however the waiter comped us a free appetizer for our wait which he didn’t have to do. Weather was chilly so they did hand us blankets which was an A++
My only complaint was with the host. We had a reservation and there were 6 of us and he sought to put us at a table that was basically situated in the entryway to the patio on a cold rainy night - with wind and chill and waiters and table bus crews from outdoors sweeping thru. I asked if he could accommodate us anywhere else and he said “No”. With the party before us asking to avoid being outside, he did the same thing. She asked “is there no other option at all?” His response “none”. No more explanation - just very terse and condescending. He doesn’t belong at the host desk. We ended up sitting outside under heaters where it was lovely and peaceful but that was not because of anything the host offered. I walked the entire restaurant and found an alternative. He should have been nice and gracious enough to suggest it, walk me there and praise its virtues. We would have then said - “wow, he’s a great host as he solved our concern without messing up his own planning”. But he didn’t. Too bad.
My wife and I love this place! Seeing as we don't live near by, it's become a special occasion restaurant for us. While the menu isn't huge, it's still always difficult to choose because everything is so good. Last time we visited we had the Young Coconut Ceviche, Enchiladas Verde, and a Chimichanga. All delicious!! The Chimichanga really stood out. Can't get enough of that Cashew Aioli! And the tortilla had the perfect amount of crispiness to it. As for the drinks. They always nail it on their cocktails. Excellent flavors, and aromas. With a fair amount of alcohol content for your buck. Good selection of beers as well. Dig all the Mexican Lagers options. We don't typically indulge in desert but whenever we peak at what others are getting we are very tempted! As for the staff and environment, I have 0 complaints. Out of the dozen times we've visited our waiters have always been friendly, and knowledgable. LA's been pretty cold this winter season and we noticed last time in the outdoor area that they had a blanket on every seat. Thought that was really cool and unique. Obviously recommend this place.
It’s just such a busy place. It’s beautiful, and looks nice but I could barely see anything around me due to the amount of people. The tables are all very close together on top of it being crowded and having people standing around you, and walking by you. It was sadly a very uncomfortable first visit for me. And the noise level is just so high I couldn’t even hear my boyfriend sitting in front of me. I didn’t feel comfortable ordering food because I wanted to leave because it was so crowded/loud. The service was slow due to the amount of people I’m assuning. The food is great but there should be more options... it was a small limited menu. And also pretty expensive. Probably won’t visit again/recommend.
Very poor slow service, food was just okay. Also we were seated outside on a freezing day despite having made reservations weeks in advance.
Best vegan organic Mexican food 🔥 I had the pairing sampler dish which allowed me to taste at least 5 different items on the menu plus dessert 🍮 so amazing 🔥
my favorite - only drawback is the seating for two. Super close to other tables. If you go with a group of 4-5 much better experience!
The food and restaurant itself were great. The service could have been better. Our waiter was MIA a lot, so we had to do quite a bit of waiting around. But I loved the food and drinks, so I would still definitely come back.
Parking crazy. Waited with reservation. All VEGAN. NOT as expected. Just fair. Would not go back.
They didn't have table ready in time for reservation
The food was very good and the place seems very popular. Due to it's popularity I felt like the place was over crowded and not as intimate as I had hoped it would be. Other than that everything else was fantastic!
It was just alright. You pay for being in LA and getting “vegan” food. Would I go again? No.
- food was good
- vegan options
- food came out quickly once ordered
- hostess was incredibly rude
- was forced to wait ten minutes past reservation time even though there was Atleast 30 open tables
- waiter took forever to get to table
- very expensive
- small portions
- very loud and crowded entrance
- overall service was very unimpressive
Like I said, would never go again
Fantastic ambience, food, and bang for buck! Heartening to see such a crowd at a vegan establishment-kudos to the inventive chefs!!! We will be back.
Spectacular food and cocktails. Servers were wonderful but the restaurant was not good at managing tables. People with reservations spent a lot of time standing. It was a rainy night and the outdoor seating was closed so that might explain it? The kitchen was very fast and food came out quickly. Again, amazing food and cocktails.
We showed up for a reservation on time and they didn’t seat us for about an hour. They suggested we continue to buy cocktails at the bar. It was nearly impossible to get attention from the bartender. The hostess was quite rude when we asked for an update on how long it would be for our table.
THANK YOU 4 an amazing nite. The food and the service were above & beyond. Good show, top shelf, full stars & the bees knees. #vegan
Took my friend here for her birthday as she’s vegan. She’s new to LA and it was the second time dining for both of us. We were just blown away by the food — doesn’t taste alternative or vegan at all. The service was also excellent even though it was raining that day and the floor staff had lost half of their tables, outside, to weather. So impressed and happy and wow. Such a great night.
The restaurant has delicios food. On rainy nights the seating capacity is less than half aince the wonderful outdoor seating isn’t available. That results in late seatings and a very crowded wait by the bar. But the staff are lovely and the food is delicious. Definitely a special treat.
They seated us 30 to 35 minutes past our reservation time. The server messed up my order so everyone on the table waited for my food to arrive which took 15 minutes.
At the end of the meal we were just talking and the manager came up to our table and requested us to leave as he needed the table to seat the next party. I thought that was rude.
They put us by the entrance with the door opening every 5 seconds when it was 50 degrees outside. We had two babies with us. The food was expensive for the portions, we all had to eat somewhere else after.
I had been to Cafe Gratitude in San Diego and loved it, so I wanted to check out Gracias Madre while visiting LA since they are owned by the same people. The space was beautiful, and the food was good.. but it was very expensive. I wanted to order chips and guacamole but it was $12.50.... My husband and I split an appetizer and a few things off the A La Carte menu. The food was satisfying but didn't blow me away. I am vegan, and really appreciate that this is a completely vegan place and that the food is healthy-ish. I really wanted to love it, but I was much more impressed with Cafe Gratitude. The people at CG were so friendly and sweet. Our server here was ok. Maybe it's the location... maybe I should have expected a restaurant in this area to be filled with rich brats. The conversations on both sides of us made us want to gouge our eyes out. Of course, that's not the restaurants fault. but these people here really think they are way too cool. I'll stick to the other vegan places we love when we come to LA again.
Enjoyed the food. The server for our table was excellent, however, Bartenders need to be more attentive.
Coconut Ceviche - 💯
Delicious food, great service!
The food was delicious and would definitely go back again.
Thank you for making Valentine’s Day special for my family
Impeccable wait staff. It was raining on Valentine's Day when we went so more than half of their seating (outside) was not an option. They were slammed with people waiting for tables. They handled it very well. Food is delicious.
We were 20 minutes late for our V-day reservation. They were nice enough to still take us, but told us we had an hour to “give the table back”. That was a first for me 🤷🏽♂️
I had a reservation and when I arrived, the valet informed me they were closed. An employee came out to say they had no reservations for today, but yet I had one and showed him my open table confirmation.
Truly disappointed, as I was taking a client to lunch to celebrate her bday.
I love the ambiance and environment of Gracias Madre, but I felt the food and service left a lot to be desired. When I first looked at the menu, I was very excited, but the food itself was lacking a lot of flavor and innovation. The best dish we tried was the hearts of palm "crab cakes," which was the most interesting and flavorful. I had high hopes, but was disappointed.
Best friend’s birthday dinner
We asked for a table inside, they sat us on the table between the inside and outside patio. I had made the reservations 3 weeks prior and didn't expect to get attitude from the hostess which was not professional. Other than that, food was good as I had eaten at the SF location many times. Drinks are definitely overpriced!! Pumpkin flan dessert was good but the brownie didn't taste as advertised.
