Gracias Madre - Newport
The idea of Gracias Madre was first conceived while visiting the families of our employees in Mexico. We wanted to do both; offer organic Mexican food to the communities we serve as well as honor the mothers who work tirelessly in the kitchens of Mexico and often live without their husbands and children while they work side by side with us in California. Inspired by some of the recipes of these families and the love of their mothers, Gracias Madre serves organic, farm fresh, locally sourced food, full of flavor and love with a menu spearheaded by Executive Chef Alan Sanz and agave-based cocktail program by Beverage Director Maxwell Reis.

Upscale vegan but you Definitely don't have to be a vegan to enjoy it: creative, delicious!
Jackfruit tacos and heuvous rancheros with cauliflower were delicious.
The restaurant was so noisy you could barely hear. It took 30 minutes for our food to arrive, and it was cold and missing one of the main ingredients. We've been there multiple times and always enjoyed it, but this time was terrible. In addition, the glasses were filthy, with lip marks and spots all over. Not a very good experience.
Food was amazing
We've been to this Gracias Madre half a dozen times since it opened. The experience ranges from 3-4.5 stars because the host and service vary widely. Sometimes the host doesn't even greet you for 5 minutes or more. Sometimes they're perfect. The same goes for the bar and wait staff. We've been completely ignored in the bar before and had wait staff who are forgetful and slow as molasses. Plus the music is often loud and not always appropriate for a relaxed dinner conversation. But, when everything comes together, it is a wonderful experience! I haven't figured out the rhyme or reason yet for a flawless evening. But, I will say the food is top-notch. We've loved everything we've eaten and will return for the food alone. If you're looking for a vegan Mexican place with wonderful food and you're tolerant of inconsistent service, Gracias Madre should be on your short list!

Great place for vegan Mexican. Stylish decor and vibrant atmosphere. Menu is extensive enough for just about anyone.
Everything about it was wonderful. One of the best margaritas I’ve ever had!
Everything was great - except the chef’s bowl did not seem like a meal.. more like a veg platter. My wife loves flan.. but this flan was the least favorite she has ever had.. dense & a strange consistency. Just not very pleasant.
But service was amazing and the other two meals were great!
The restaurant is very pretty and welcoming. It was lunch mid week, so not too crowded. We were there on taco Tuesday, and they offered five dollar tacos that were quite large. That was the best value on the menu. Their prices are quite high. A bowl of chips and guacamole is $15. There were four of us. There were not that many chips, and the guacamole bowl was very small. Cannot justify a bowl of chips for that price. Almost everything is $12-$15 per plate and up. The drinks are priced very high as well.Although the food and atmosphere are good, there are many places in the Newport Beach area that are much less expensive and just as good if not better.

The decor and atmosphere is beyond gorgeous! Food and drinks were outstanding. Server was ok.
This was either Gratitude or Cafe Gratitude. The menu is completely different, and better than the old menu. The prices, are moderate, not outrageous considering it's in Nudeport Beach. Our server was attentive but not intrusive.
The physical characteristics of the inside dining area are vary hard surfaces which might mean the noise level could make conversing across the table without the use of a bull horn difficult.
We were there long before a crowd wandered in, so the noise level was very low on a Monday afternoon.

Taking non plant based diners there and they flip out! That’s my favorite thing to do . GM delivers every time
Delicious food and drink, great atmosphere. Portions could be bigger.
Food was rather bland. I’ve had great delicious vegan food before. Two of our three dishes were under seasoned.
This is the 3rd time we've been to GM. Once in Hollywood and twice in Costa Mesa. We've always had a great experience until this last time. Where do I begin? I made a reservation. We showed up on time. There was a line AND the hostess sat two other 2-party tables who did NOT have reservations before us. I said something. She was "bewildered" and had no answer -- overwhelmed? We waited another five minutes. Then a managerial looking person showed up and I told him. He apologized and seated us. (There were plenty of tables on the patio.) He offered to comp us an appetizer. Nice. The waiter served several tables around us, including the two girls who just showed up and were seated before us. The drinks came; they were the wrong ones! The food came, very good. The bill came, we were charged for the comped appetizer. I flagged down the manager guy, he apologized again and took the appetizer off the bill. YIKES!!!!!!!
Loved it! Received a scoop of ice cream for my birthday, too!
I had a wonderful time here with my friend. We both had scrumptious meals, received attentive service, and soaked up lovely ambiance that allowed us to have terrific conversation. Thank you!

All staff very polite and attentive. Food and drinks came out within reasonable time. Our server “Forrest” was outstanding and will ask for him upon our return.
Our server was awesome! I loved the huevos rancheros. The ambiance was good. Prices a bit steep for portion size.
My expectations were low as I thought Gratitude Cafe (which existed in this spot previously) was very mediocre, so what a great surprise when everything was so delicious! We started with a scone and a plantain quesadilla to start. Both superb. Then I had the "huevos rancheros" which are not actually huevos, but are instead a delicious mixture of cauliflower with vegan cheese and sauce on an organic corn tortilla. Really good stuff!!
We had reservations at 7:45, though we weren’t seated until after 8.
It was noted in the reservation that it was for a birthday celebration, though none of the staff acknowledged that.
We place an order for an appetizer only to have the waiter come much later to ask, “did I recall you ordering the nachos?”
The drinks came out very slowly and the dinner entrees arrived a few minutes after the appetizers. The pacing seemed very odd.
We ordered the chimichanga and jack fruit tacos. Overall, there was a lack of depth of flavor.
The fudge brownie dessert had no fudge and was very dry. I would not recommend this as it was subpar.
As much as I wanted to enjoy the new concept, I thought cafe gratitude was far greater.

Good food(we went for Newport Beach Restaurant week); since this is a vegetarian restaurant, wasn’t sure about it. The young coconut ceviche was delicious as was the eggplant milenasa.
Excellent brunch menus with lots of great vegan choices. French toast was fantastic as were the scones.
I’m not particularly fond of vegan food, but this place changed my mind about that! The food was really good for being vegan based Mexican. I have already recommended this place to some of my friends.

Great food. Terrific service (a bit too fast). Nice ambiance - but music was too loud for a sleepy cold Monday night - and they need more heaters. Brrrr.
Great atmosphere, casual, fun, and good food. It has a plant based menu, so great for vegetarians and vegans.
Food was amazing. Service and atmosphere too! The mushroom fajita was perfect.
