Grace at the Carnegie
As you enter the dining room through the French doors from the library, a feeling of warmth and elegance beckons you to enjoy leisurely modern trending dining. A bow window allows dinner guests to view the beautiful flowers that surround Carnegie Inn & Spa and the woods surrounding the golf course. China, crystal, and silver grace the tables on crisp white table linen. Servers are attentive in providing for the needs of the guests who dine on trend-setting cuisine.
From breakfast to elegantly prepared hors d'oeuvres and dinner selections, dining at Carnegie Inn & Spa is as spectacular as it is relaxing. The Library invites casual conversation while savoring a favorite cocktail or glass of wine from the Wine Spectator award winning selection.
Our waiter had two large tables and us. The larger tables got all of his attention, we were always waiting.
The veal was very dry and tasteless. The wife said her filet was good.
We loved our experience! Got the raspberry and goat cheese salad and the salmon for dinner and both were absolutely wonderful. Delicious food and reasonable price.
Great job with Covid precautions, we had a really pleasant dining experience and would totally recommend it to anyone.
Great food, service was a little slow as we were in the library, not the main dining area
Amazing food. Amazing staff
Excellent food. Great service! Perfect engagement dinner!
Food was very poor. We told the waitress and absolutely no comment and nothing was done. We will never return.
Wonderful menu selection. Service impeccable and dinner was fabulous
Great atmosphere too!
Grace is blessed with an excellent menu, expertly prepared, beautifully served in a lovely setting.
From our classic-with-twist cocktails to perfectly done creme brûlée, an experience we hope to repeat many times to come.
We came for a special occasion, and we will definitely return “just because.“ Fantastic meal with great flavor, wonderful fresh ingredients, and just the right combination of classics with new twists. Great cocktails and well-selected wine list.
Service was excellent. Our waitress was very personable and knowledgeable about the menu selections. Our request to sit outdoors was accommodated and their patio overlooks a lovely garden with Toftrees golf course just beyond. Portions were ample and the food was beautifully plated. Chef makes good use of the herbs from his on site garden.
Wonderful outdoor dining experience
Food was amazing and server excellent. She quickly realized other patrons had rudely stood next to our table and didn’t make any attempts to social distance. We were moved to the other side of the room unfortunately a male guest held court for more than 20 minutes with zero regard for other guests. He had no mask and clearly no manners nor did the rude woman who brought the group into the room. All in all we were well taken care of by the restaurant and will definitely return. We love Grace and Chef did an outstanding job!
Dinner at the Carnegie House is always a great experience! Food is fabulous, staff is professional and friendly and the ambiance is spectacular. Drinks in the Library before dinner just adds to the experience. A 'must' if you are in the State College area.
Wonderful, charming, a pleasurable evening to spend with my wife of many, want years together
A great dining experience. The staff was wonderful and exceeded our expectations. The food was amazing, compliments to the chef and staff.
We really enjoyed our first restaurant experience since being quarantined! The ambience was excellent. The service was exceptional and the food was amazing. Everything we ate was delicious. One thing was better than the next. We finished with creme brûlée for dessert and we loved every spoonful. We will definitely be back again and we highly recommend Graces.
Sorry to say our meals were not as good as usual. They were good, but for the price I would expect them to be outstanding. I have eaten at Grace numerous times and this is the first time I felt I did not get my money's worth. The service was good, but not great. No cleaning of crumbs off the table with the device they usually use. It did not help that there was another table in the place where a gentlemen wanted to dominate the conversation and be heard by everyone. I know with the social distancing rules things are tough, but when you pay the prices that the Grace charges you except the best.
We are so sorry to hear your recent visit was less than wonderful. Social distancing rules aside, we pride ourselves in providing our guests with the highest level of service and quality of cuisine. Please feel free to reach out to our management team so we can make this right. We appreciate your honest review; thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We hope to have a chance to serve you again.
My husband and I just visited over the weekend to celebrate both my birthday and Father's Day. Our dinner was delicious. The staff was excellent and very accommodating. The atmosphere was calming and peaceful. This by far was one of the best stays we've had in a long time and most likely we will return in the future. I highly recommend Grace Restaurant and the Carnegie In for a peaceful getaway.
This was my second time dining at the Carnegie. It was as good as I remembered. The menu selections are inventive and presented well. The service was impeccable. We sat overlooking the golf course and an inviting fire pit with rocking chairs. COVID related safety precautions were adhered to. My husband and daughter shared several appetizers and a veal dish. The veal dish was too much for even the two of them to finish. I enjoyed seared fois gras and scallops. Everyone agreed the fois gras was their favorite. We finished by sharing a blueberry sorbet and a creme brulee. A truly lovely evening.
Excellent food. Great wine selection. Superb service.
Staff is great. Very friendly and professional. Great salad and scallop dish.
The ambiance is the best in the area.
This was not our first time here and will not be our last! Everything, from a pre dinner drink in the library to the meals served are obviously done with attention to detail. Dinner on the patio was lovely.
Post COVID-19 Pandemic shutdown by PA Governor, the dinner at Grace was outstanding. All measures were taken per the CDC Guidelines and the Service and Food was wonderful. Well worth the time and money spent to enjoy the evening. Great job all around!
the service and ambiance are great, unfortunately the food is a disappointment. The most expensive restaurant in the area but the food is lacking.
I was warmly greeted by two very attentive young women at the front desk. They patiently answered my questions and were very accommodating. Coming in from freezing weather and sitting by an open fireplace while you wait for your table was quite comforting, and the ambiance of the lounge was sophisticated without being pretentious. The wait staff was also very friendly.
The bread on the table wasn't anything to write home about, and I actually felt one of the options was too sweet. However, the salted butter was a really nice touch and it brought it together.
The oysters were pretty good and I feel like they decently priced. I'm not sure if the horseradish is prepackaged or made in house, but it made the appetizer.
The main course I ordered (Coq au vin) was very good. I personally could have used less sauce, but I'm pretty sure the amount of sauce provided is how coq au vin is actually supposed to be made. The chicken comes from Joyce Farms, which I believe is a farm way out in North Carolina. They advertise the chicken as organic, but Joyce farms is not certified organic. They do (supposedly) follow a very high standard of humane and healthy practices, but they currently don't meet the standards for certified non-GMO and/or organic. Still, the dish was exquisite for the price, and the mushrooms were really the star of the show. You could also see some thought was put into plate presentation, so obviously somebody back there really knows what they're doing.
I'd be curious to see if I can try some of the other stuff, as the menu changes seasonally.
Oh, the dessert was really good too. I got "chocolate stuff," but a lot of people were getting the "Baked Alaskan." I really think I'm going to bring my girlfriend down and give that a try.
Overall, it's easily the classiest place in State College. I really like it here and will be back.
Food and service were both outstanding. Ambiance is also typically great - we love having a drink by the fireplace in the library to start. On our most recent visit, we happened to be sitting near a table of six that got overly loud and inconsiderate, which hurt the normally quiet atmosphere a bit, but that was unusual.
The diners at the table next to us were very loud which made it difficult to have a conversation with my family. Otherwise, everything was great.
Our birthday dinner was completely disrupted by a loud, drunken, obnoxious table of 6 near us. No one on the wait staff tried to do anything to make them be quieter, maybe because they thought they'd get a bigger tip if they were nice to them. One man in the group made a point of telling the waiter "We have lots of money." This group was loud and noisy and obnoxious the entire time we were in the restaurant, and disrupted the meals of every other group of diners. You really need to have a policy and procedures in place to deal with people like this. We will not be back.
Far and away best fine dining experiencein the greater State College area.
Lobster salad starter is superb! Dover sole entree is delicious and the presentation is just as lovely!
Best dinner we've had in State College in a very long time! Look forward to coming back!
The food was wonderful but the service left a lot to be desired. From the second we walked in the door, there were guests arguing with the hostess about a lost reservation. We were seated rather quickly and never once offered a drink beyond the water that was already on the table. Everyone around us had wine, champagne, etc but by the time our server showed up at our table after we had been sitting there waiting for 15 minutes we were focused mostly on wanting to eat.
Our server never introduced themselves, and upon stating I have a food allergy (gluten) and asking how to navigate the menu wasn’t given much guidance other than “pick something and the chef will make it work”, however upon further questioning there were several things that could not be accommodated so I’d have loved some additional help but our sever seemed uninterested in us.
Upon leaving we took note of several people in the adjacent library lounge area getting drinks but we were never told anything about this area or explained it was available to us to we headed out immediately after our meal.
The food itself was delicious but the service will probably be enough to keep us from returning.
Lovely, warm lounge in which to enjoy a drink before dinner. Traditional, library-like vibe, with cozy fireplace. Love it!
The dining room was intimate, quiet and comfortable, with flawless food and service. In my opinion, the food is the best in town.
This is the first time that I have been back since the remodel. The room was much brighter and whiter than before, which took a bit off romance. The entree was very good, but the sides were nothing special. Our table service was a little off with a few missed chances to be great.
Drinks and service were fine
My Foie Gras appetizer was unrecognizable as such; served cold with hardly any of the typical flavors
My steak was lukewarm when served with a very small amount of lukewarm Peppercorn/Cognac sauce. Steak was grey on outside and pink on inside, not medium rare as ordered and searingly cooked at too low a temperature for too long. Not sure who was in the kitchen but these dishes were very disappointing.
Pasta with fresh clams and cod were adequate but not exciting and again served lukewarm.
Very attentive staff throughout the entire evening made us relaxed. Warm goat cheese and raspberry salad with applewood bacon was nicely prepared and flavorful. The special, Sea Bass, was excellent. I was extremely pleased with the succulent Pennsylvania lamb shank as it was cooked just right.
A wonderful evening celebrating our daughter’s birthday. Food was AMAZING!! Staff fantastic and we cannot wait to come again.
Terrific meal! Can’t wait to come back.
Their food is exceptional. Their Desserts - save room for them as they are worth every calorie too!.
