Grace at the Carnegie
As you enter the dining room through the French doors from the library, a feeling of warmth and elegance beckons you to enjoy leisurely modern trending dining. A bow window allows dinner guests to view the beautiful flowers that surround Carnegie Inn & Spa and the woods surrounding the golf course. China, crystal, and silver grace the tables on crisp white table linen. Servers are attentive in providing for the needs of the guests who dine on trend-setting cuisine.
From breakfast to elegantly prepared hors d'oeuvres and dinner selections, dining at Carnegie Inn & Spa is as spectacular as it is relaxing. The Library invites casual conversation while savoring a favorite cocktail or glass of wine from the Wine Spectator award winning selection.
The food was wonderful but the service left a lot to be desired. From the second we walked in the door, there were guests arguing with the hostess about a lost reservation. We were seated rather quickly and never once offered a drink beyond the water that was already on the table. Everyone around us had wine, champagne, etc but by the time our server showed up at our table after we had been sitting there waiting for 15 minutes we were focused mostly on wanting to eat.
Our server never introduced themselves, and upon stating I have a food allergy (gluten) and asking how to navigate the menu wasn’t given much guidance other than “pick something and the chef will make it work”, however upon further questioning there were several things that could not be accommodated so I’d have loved some additional help but our sever seemed uninterested in us.
Upon leaving we took note of several people in the adjacent library lounge area getting drinks but we were never told anything about this area or explained it was available to us to we headed out immediately after our meal.
The food itself was delicious but the service will probably be enough to keep us from returning.
Lovely, warm lounge in which to enjoy a drink before dinner. Traditional, library-like vibe, with cozy fireplace. Love it!
The dining room was intimate, quiet and comfortable, with flawless food and service. In my opinion, the food is the best in town.
This is the first time that I have been back since the remodel. The room was much brighter and whiter than before, which took a bit off romance. The entree was very good, but the sides were nothing special. Our table service was a little off with a few missed chances to be great.
Drinks and service were fine
My Foie Gras appetizer was unrecognizable as such; served cold with hardly any of the typical flavors
My steak was lukewarm when served with a very small amount of lukewarm Peppercorn/Cognac sauce. Steak was grey on outside and pink on inside, not medium rare as ordered and searingly cooked at too low a temperature for too long. Not sure who was in the kitchen but these dishes were very disappointing.
Pasta with fresh clams and cod were adequate but not exciting and again served lukewarm.
Very attentive staff throughout the entire evening made us relaxed. Warm goat cheese and raspberry salad with applewood bacon was nicely prepared and flavorful. The special, Sea Bass, was excellent. I was extremely pleased with the succulent Pennsylvania lamb shank as it was cooked just right.
A wonderful evening celebrating our daughter’s birthday. Food was AMAZING!! Staff fantastic and we cannot wait to come again.
Terrific meal! Can’t wait to come back.
Their food is exceptional. Their Desserts - save room for them as they are worth every calorie too!.
Well...the restaurants here in State College are abysmal, and that is for miles in every direction, so a place that resembles fine dining is welcome. You are welcomed into a lovely living room environment to begin and have a cocktail, next to a fireplace. Desire being freezing outside with typical awful weather the fireplace was off. Huge miss there. The person seating us was absent so a server seated us. He was on point, which was amazing given the fact that most servers in this area have zero clue how to do anything. The menu included some excellent selections, and I ordered the scallops, which were numerous and huge. The sides were pretty much non existent so the scallops had to work. The excellent server made what would have been a bad experience better. But all told, my advice is never dine out in State College. Standards are so low that if you have traveled or lived in a modern metropolitan area...you will be infinitely disappointed by every place you go.
They have changed the menu and preferred the old one. The meal was good but overpriced. The ambiance is excellent and quiet so overall a good experience.
This is a very nice restaurant in terms of ambiance. It is quiet and offers very good service. The food is reasonably good, but the desserts are poor. I ordered a very nice bibb lettuce salad and a very good cod plate, but my dinner companion ordered a fava bean vegetarian entree that was quite unremarkable. We planned to share a baked alaska for dessert but the cake was dry, the icecream overly hard, and the meringue overflamed with a burnt taste. Would definitely not recommend this. Overall, a very nice experience if you order carefully.
Food was very good and atmosphere was great. Service was pretty slow. We weren’t in a hurry but seemed as though waitress was unable to handle the amount of tables she had. Waited over 20 minutes for our first drink. Another waiter stepped in to help clear first 2 courses and get us another drink. After meal was served she never came back to see how they were. Just asked If they were ok after done. Also, tables near outside windows were chilly.
Our children were visiting for Christmas, so we went out to celebrate. We started in the library with drinks, which is so relaxing and cozy. We were seated late, though, and I had to change my planned order to something a bit lighter.
All of the food was excellent- the steak was cooked to perfection, the roasted butternut squash was a unique and delicious dish, my soup and Bib Lettuce salad were both delicious as well. The chef’s special, which was a fresh red snapper, was outstanding. For dessert we shared Is It an Apple?, a white chocolate covered cheesecake, and it was so wonderful that next visit, I’m getting my own!
The ambiance at Grace is lovely and our waitress was very attentive and accommodating. The dining room was a bit loud, but people were enjoying the holiday season, and it really did not interfere with our own conversations.
This was our second visit in a month, and we highly recommend Grace for all occasions!
The entree’s were excellent and the service at the table was impeccable. That being said when we arrived we waited twenty minutes for a drink and that was only after we noticed another group that arrived after us had gotten drinks. The appetizers were pretty good, and my wife’s said her ice cream was excellent but my Baked Alaska was only fair it seemed like it was pre made and sat in a freezer to long.
Food was really valuable and nice atmosphere!
BEST - Special Occassion! Amazing environment, quality service and exceptional food. Sharif our server was knowledgeable, engaging, communicative and assisted every step of the way to make for an exceptional experience. So thankful for a memorable meal and sharing this holiday season. Highest Recommend - quality - friendly - affordable.
Food was excellent. Service was terrible. No water refills. No coffee refills. Didn’t check in on meal . Couldn’t split the check amongst 3 couples . Rushed service & was asked to leave the dining room before 10pm. At this price point, go elsewhere .
Although a bit pricey, finally State College has a good restaurant choice for finer dining. The dining room is a bit small and noisy and while the wait staff was attentive at the start of our reservation, it got a bit slow as the evening went on. Our meals were excellent and there will definitely be a return visit.
Very nice meal and pleasant ambiance for a pre-dinner cocktail. The food was excellent if a little pricey.
Considering the limited choice of restaurants in the area, I would recommend the venue.
Our table for 2 was ready and set when we arrived and yet, we were kept waiting for 12 minutes.
The appetizers consisting of baby Kale salad and smoked salmon were too SMALL of a portion to enjoy. This I simply do not understand.
The entrees were good and satisfying.
Great dinner. Dawn was super server. The sole entree was superb.
We were taken to a room and seated and told someone would take a cocktail order but after twenty minutes no one came. We were seated at a table and the overhead lights were so bright I moved my seat but the waitress never offered to change our table.
CandaceS - So sorry you didn't receive the attention in the library that you were promised! We would love to welcome you back for a cocktail on us. We hope you would be willing to give dining with us another chance in the future, but please feel free to reach out to our management staff in the meantime to make this service discrepancy right.
This was the first time back after about 2 years but was pleasantly surprised with the food and th service
A group of men at the next table conducting a business meeting was loud and distracting, but that's no fault of the restaurant.
A couple of us enjoyed the salmon with a mushroom risotto, and others enjoyed the pork dish. I also enjoyed my warm goat cheese and raspberry salad. very tasty. They had a nice collection of wines too. Very warm atmosphere and quiet setting.
The food and service were great. My only complaint was that there is door in the dining room that led to the outside which was opened several times during our meal letting in a cold breeze.
We had a great time. Our server was upset as she felt the cocktail service was slow. However, we did not notice as we were not in any hurry and we were just enjoying the company. Food was delicious and I would say the entree was rather a large portion for fine dining.
Our waiter was OUTSTANDING!
The food was incredible and the level of service is unmatched locally.
Excellent service with a nice wine/cocktail list. Everything was very well prepared and presented.
It was the perfect place for our romantic anniversary dinner - an intimate setting, good food and attentive service. The plating was beautiful. We loved the warm goat cheese salad.
Great place for a nice dinner. One of the better restaurants in the area for ambience and food. While a little pricey, food was very good. I would recommend to any parent wanting to treat their PSU student to a nice fine dining meal.
The food was breathtakingly presented and tasted incredible. Definitely a hidden gem in State College.
October 19, 2019. The Penn State - Michigan white out football weekend. Busy but the service was still excellent. It is the best meal and dining in State College.
High quality food, as always. I have been to Carnegie many times, and it never disappoints. If you have the opportunity, spend time in the library before entering the dining room (ask if you can order dinner in the library, by the fire, and wait to be seated until your first course is ready). Wonderful restaurant all around.
Library for cocktails is great. Dining room is small and somewhat cramped. Food and service were excellent
Excellent meal. It’s not cheap, but is an outstanding value for the quality of food. Wish I tried the baked Alaska. My daughter had it and said it was great.
We have consistently enjoyed our meals at Carnegie House. It is well worth the trip and a wonderful experience.
As many times as we have dined there, this was the first that the service was poor. We waited a long time before having to leave the lounge to ask for someone to take our drinks order. Well after that, we had to ask for the menus because the waiter had not provided them. The menus are no longer lighted as in the past, making reading them difficult in the dim light of the lounge.
The food was excellent!
Great food, great service, great birthday memory. Thank you!
An outstanding dining experience. Food, service and wine were superb. Would highly recommend.
