A Bodega Bay tradition, Gourmet au Bay has been a favorite of locals and tourists alike for over 20 years. Our coastal wood oven cuisine is unlike anything else in town. We create a daily menu in the wood fired oven including soups, flatbreads and seafood. We feature small-production, award winning wines from California and we have a coastal inspired gift shop filled with eclectic finds. Stop in for a Wine Surf or a beer on tap and to share a plate or two.

This was a serendipitous find among all the “chowder house” options in Bodega Bay. We wanted a delicious, casual meal and Gourmet au Bay filled the bill. The menu is small, but everything we ordered was delicious, from the roasted squash served in a creamy sherry infused sauce to the mussels in a wonderful, garlicky broth, to the clam flatbread. Gourmet au Bay has most definitely made the “must return to this place” list!

This was our second time at Gourmet au Bay. THe atmosphere is lively and casual. THe menu is very limited and unchanged since our last visit there. THeir menu offerings are fresh and good but the addition of one or two daily specials would be very welcome. They offer great prices on wines and have a limited but varied wine by the glass menu. A nice stop for a casual lunch or dinner. I would classify it more as a wine bar with some food rather than a restaurant.

We had a 7:15 reservation on a Friday eve and were rudely told on arrival that we would not be served . We should have left then, but the hostess realized her error and we put a partial order in. Our waitress was rude in taking our order, rude in delivering the food and when we went to order our second course, she informed us that the kitchen was now closed per the owners decision. She had not said anything about this when we first ordered. We got up to pay and that was another fiasco as she could not find our tab and we had to wait for a different waitress to help us, and during this process we could see that there was still food coming out of the kitchen!! We inquired as to why we could not have ordered more food, the person helping us with our tab was surprised that we had been turned down. Yikes!! We went elsewhere to have our dinner. The strawberry and arugula salad was yummy.

What a great little find. Excellent wines at moderate prices (the flights are a great deal). Flatbreads and mussels were both great and the arugula salad was tasty and different. Great view of the harbor. Welcoming staff even if they misfired occasionally. This was the only place on a three week trip that we ate at twice.

We had an outstanding dinner on Saturday night. The food was excellent -- we especially liked the Sinatra flatbread and the arugula salad. The wine was good too and a good value. I liked the champagne/chardonnay/pinot noir surfing flight.

We were here last year, and it was fabulous. We reserved it Saturday for my 70th b-day and again Monday for friends who were coming to visit from the Central Coast. We submitted our order, waited 40 minutes, my husband went in (we were seated outside) and was told "oh, they lost our order; the server had an emergency". OK. Stuff happens. They brought the arugula salad - thrown together - 3 peach slices, probably 3 almond slices (all on the bottom). Then the mushrooms came - not terribly attractive, but the butter sauce was very good on the toasted baguette. Then the mussels came. Totally inedible. Dry, tough, what broth? By then , my husband was so embarrassed, he cancelled the rest of the order and cancelled our reservations for Monday. We were charged for the mussels that were sent back, uneaten; and we were treated like we were the ones w/ the problem. Well, yeah, we had a problem - see the above. VERY DISAPPOINTING. (First negative review I've written, and we had very high expectations from our previous experience)
