THE CULINARY LEGACY OF GOUBULI BEGAN IN 1858 BY THE ESTABLISHMENT OF ITS FIRST OUTLET IN TIANJIN, CHINA. THE LEGENDARY GOUBULI BAOZI WAS INVENTED BY GOUZI USING HALF LEAVEN DOUGH, RICHLY FLAVOURED MEAT AND A DELICIOUS SOUPY FILLING. EACH BAOZI IS ELEGANTLY HANDMADE WITH 18-FOLD CHRYSANTHEMUM CROWN AND STEAMED TO PERFECTION. Arrived with an OpenTable reservation to be told by the receptionist that (a) she did not see a reservation (b) I should have called (c) but she would "kindly" let us have a table. When I questioned her logic (that I should have called and not book via OpenTable), point (c) was repeated several times with an attitude that could only be described as annoyed and condensing. We chose to stay as it was supposed to be a family dinner for Chinese New Year. I chose not to be bothered by such rudeness. Another waitress took over when we sat down. She politely asked about our OpenTable booking (I showed her) and explained to me how the restaurant stopped accepting OpenTable reservation that morning (afternoon?) and showed me the restaurant's dashboard. We could both see that there was a technical error of some sort. This polite waitress took special care of us, recommending a special item that was not listed on the menu (very good fresh boiled dumplings) and discouraging us from another dish. Meanwhile, the rude receptionist/waitress was having a loud convo at the till at the bar 2 feet from me. Hospitality or even smiling was not in her job description, perhaps. When the bill arrived, the nice waitress gave us a Chinese red envelope ($5), along with Chinese New Year wishes from the restaurant owner. A story to illustrate how one wrong personnel could single-handedly ruin the customer experience. Kudos to the nice waitress who jumped in to control the damage.

Food and service were excellent. Lots of menu items and variety to choose from. Service was very fast, food was hot, fresh and delicious. Will definitely be returning to try many new dishes.

Very disappointed about the OpenTable reservation as this restaurant told us that they didn’t know about our table for 12 pax yesterday. It ended up that we had to spit into 2 tables and ordered food for 2 diff tables. Not an excuse if you’re putting up your ad and method of reservation on OpenTable and told your customer that your restaurant doesn’t have Wifi to check with the reservation. It’s ridiculous!
