Conrado made my mom’s birthday celebration such a wonderful experience!
Tea with my ladies
Afternoon tea at The Gotham Lounge of The Peninsula Hotel NY was a magical experience. Mr Conrado our server was attentive and he was excellent. He made us feel very important . From the Wedgewood Chine serving pieces to the delicious tea sandwiches and sweets and the decadent chocolates, this is a must have experience when in NYC. Thank you Gotham Lounge. Highly recommended. I will be back.
Excellent afternoon tea experience. Only two things as suggestions: bigger table for two so that all the dishes and everything can fit more comfortably, and something to keep the teapots and scones warm. Everything was delicious. I would definitely return.
The service was outstanding and the savory sandwiches and sweet treats were yummilicious. We definitely enjoyed our afternoon tea.
Lovely environment - good food - but very overpriced
The space was small and the food was way overpriced - you can get a way better dish at Daniel or some of the fine dining places in NYC. The services were a standout though
I was very impressed with everything. It was a beautiful space, lovely service and delicious food.
We had the afternoon tea and a glass of champagne and we were never made to feel rushed to get through everything as with many other afternoon teas.
Definitely worth treating yourself to this.
first day of new menu
FANTASTIC! I went to Gotham twice i two weeks. I was with one person the first time. She eats gluten-free. The last time, I was with two people. One also needed gluten free, and the other wanted vegan. All three were accommodated. Service could not have been better.
The Gotham lounge is a lovely plush room; a perfect setting for the afternoon tea that we came to enjoy. We were greeted warmly and professionally on arrival by the French maitre 'd and seated in the middle of three tables of two, very close together. Whilst reading our menus the table next to us departed, the maitre 'd came to ask if we'd like to move to that table and thus be not so closely located to the table next to us. We accepted and he quickly did the necessary. This was a thoughtful touch. The server however was somewhat supercilious in both attitude and demeanor. I couldn't decide if that was because he was talking to a woman or it was his general attitude. The afternoon tea menu consists of two choices; plus a menu for the tea beverage. When I said we'd like the nutcracker tea he said I know that ma'm just let me know what tea you'd like. Why do you know that? Perhaps I wanted the super-expensive tea menu. Two young Japanese ladies were seated at the table next to us. One of them told this waiter that her tea cup was dirty. He picked up the cup and said where, I don't see anything, where is it dirty! If I am paying the exhorbitant $85 per person price for afternoon tea, I expect you could walk to the kitchen and get me a new cup without questioning me. The afternoon tea itself was attractive in presentation but lacking in taste. The different breads used for the sandwiches were dry. The scones didn't taste like English scones, more like biscuits. They came with brioche and a coffee eclair. The petit fours were very attractive in appearance but didn't quite match in taste. Disappointing and expensive though I realise the price is because we were at the Peninsula hotel.
A bit pricey but enjoyable. Went for high tea prior to the ballet. Enjoyed everything .
Such a beautiful place. They also accommodated and allowed us to make changes to our selections. Highly recommend! PS- The holiday decorations were lovely.
Having been to many afternoon teas around the world, this one was the most disappointing. Very expensive and value for what you received was poor. Small quantities, and very limited tea choice.
Paid far too much money for what was received. Calling it a Nutcracker tea , there should have been something additional added to the tea for the holiday season. Charging $85.00 usd a person was far too much to leave hungry. I asked if we could have more sandwiches or scones and was given a FLAT NO.
Would never recommened this venue to anyone for afternoon tea.
fantastic for almost everything - only complaint is that tea finger andwiches should be two of each kind per person every afternoon tea I have been to in London, Dublin, New York City Boston, LA and elsewhere for the same value provides more fingersandwiches - that would make it a complete afternoon tea.
The Gotham Lounge is our new favorite venue for Afternoon Tea. Service was impeccable. The ambiance was cozy and warm. The food was great. It was my daughter’s birthday and they made it special. If you Love Afternoon Tea this place is s must. Warhol artwork everywhere
This was our second time having Afternoon Tea at the Gotham Lounge. Both of us were disappointed.
The scones were dry and we felt there were too many sweets even for an afternoon tea.
Really lovely waiters. Beautiful food.
Absolutely perfect afternoon tea. Delicious food. Delicious tea. Chic setting.
I do afternoon tea a lot, all over the country and all over the world. This one is by far my least favorite. The tea selection is severely lacking. The sweets were good but the savories were disappointing. The biggest issue is probably the ambiance. It’s in a rather sterile room with little decor and there’s a bar that can get noisy. We won’t be going back and I can’t recommend it.
The service was outstanding; we felt welcomed. But the timing was aweful. The hotel had politicians as their guests, so the place was full of security and men in suits. I couldn’t feel relaxed at all. There was no music in the background either. I liked the sweets, but not so much the sandwiches. Still, again, the servers were very nice. For an afternoon tea that costs a bit more than $70 a person, I expected more.
The food and service were great, it was the ambiance that was terrible. I knew the tea was in their lounge which i have experienced at other places. However, it was still in use as a lounge so you had loud people enjoying happy hour which was not conducive to a tea time. Also, guests kept stopping by and arguing with staff about tables being reserved for tea parties when there was a bar and they wanted a drink. I realize this could be a one-off based on hotel guests, but the hotel should find a way to cordon off the area or put clear signage before guests get to the lounge. If you are looking for a classic tea experience this is not the place.
Gotham Lounge had such an ambient vibe and it the arrangement for tea was beautiful.
WOW!!' Not only was the service perfect & the food wonderful, but the decor was GORGEOUS! Even the place settings were beautiful!
Had a great time with my family over the weekend. The service was exceptional and our waiter Rashid was amazing. It was a bit noisy when we had our reservation and seemed to be more casual but still an elegant presentation of the afternoon tea. Overall, would go again in the future.
A friend and I went for afternoon tea, expecting something a little different (given the price)... we were served small portions of dry sandwiches, scones (which were great!) and a handful of tiny desserts that we tried but didnt enjoy. We had hoped for at least a 'luxury feel', but sadly it is a tiny lounge views of the building across the street. Service was great, but overall the whole experience was a very expensive fail.
The Gotham Lounge is a small, bright and intimate room off of the main lobby. The tea was very good; the food good but not extraordinary. The service was excellent and gracious. I took my mother and we both had a very enjoyable time. I would definitely go back.
I’ve attended many teas and the Peninsula’s just wasn’t impressive at all in comparison. Very basic tea sandwiches (which were good), and two of the desserts were basically melting. Also, I was only able to try one tea. The presentation was very old school.
I had the most amazing experience at Gotham Lounge yesterday. I treated my mom to afternoon tea to celebrate her birthday and it was the perfect celebration. The service was excellent. Conrado and Thomas were so gracious and kind - they went above and beyond to make our experience extraordinary. It was truly a special day and I look forward to visiting again.
Excellent ambiance and food -- afternoon tea.
Service initially diffident, then intermittent, then absent
Lovely -- just lovely. My wife and I decided not to do holiday gifts, and instead spent the night at the Peninsula and had afternoon tea after we checked out. We enjoyed it tremendously, and the tea was one of the highlights. Each item (from the sandwiches to the scones to the desserts, plus the tea) was excellent, and the service was friendly and efficient. It's an extravagance that doesn't disappoint!
We booked afternoon tea for 2 and were both expected and welcomed. The ambience was good. Tea selection also good.
Sandwiches a little disappointing to be honest. Not many and not very tasty. The bread was a bit dry.
Scones were delicious and warm.
Other cakes were also nice.
I think it was over priced but pleasant.
We came in while waiting for an event near by, and accidentally ended up there for the afternoon tea. I've been to those in London but it was my first in NYC. I loved it, great selection of snacks and beautifully brewed tea. Seems like this is going to be a thing to do for us now in the afternoons.
I have been to Gotham lounge many times for drink etc it was a little dead for afternoon tea... but it is afternoon tea! Picked up in the afternoon but it was family's and seemingly tourist. Will return
We were there for High Tea prior to a show with our children AND celebrating my 40th birthday. It was our children's first high tea. They LOVED it. AND the staff was so amazing to me and to my family. One of the most memorable experience. The hotel staff from the entrance to the coat service...to the check in desk...all of them were VERY kind to us. Really appreciate it.
Mothers birthday, pleasant cake surprise
Chic cozy ambiance. Nice tiers of afternoon tea selection. Nice little lounge to get a quick drink in the heart of town.
The Gotham Lounge serves one of the nicest afternoon teas in New York, and I've been to most of them. The sandwiches are delicious, the service is friendly and discreet, and the kitchen prepares real tea, as in, with tea leaves, in real china pots, with very hot water - essential if you crave a good cuppa. Tea is served in a gorgeous bar-lounge area at the Peninsula Hotel with a lovely view of a church across Fifty-Fifth Street. The decor is modern, plush, and welcoming - nice and airy, with comfortable seats and couches.
Afternoon tea was wonderful, never had the experience before but glad I got it here. Service was swift and very attentive, everything was very clean and comfortable. My only complaint would be that the lounge is a little small, once the place fills up it's a little difficult to hear your own conversation because of everything else going on. Other than that the hotel is beautiful and the ambiance is very cozy.
Fantastic for our girls' day sunday tea - the scones were incredible.
