As one of the world's most revered artists, Vincent Van Gogh has long inspired the art world with his iconic paintings. We are thrilled to be a part of the botanical celebration at the New York Botanical Garden with this culinary experience. Our pastry team is inspired by Van Gogh's colorful brush strokes and the beauty of the flowers he painted to create sweets and pâtisseries to celebrate the new Van Gogh's Flowers show at NYBG. Our afternoon tea menu offers an assortment of sweet and savory treats, including a selection of premium teas and a glass of Peninsula Private Label Champagne, perfectly complementing the pastries. As part of the afternoon tea, we have included a NYBG ticket for you to enjoy a visit to the Van Gogh Flower's exhibit. I'd like to preempt this review by saying that much of my comments have to do with how the experience matched my expectations (it didn't). The Peninsula and Gotham Lounge are beautiful, with excellent menus, service, and ambiance. However, having had afternoon and high tea at other establishments around the world (at Fairmont Chateau Frontenac, for example), what we got was not at all what I expected. First, the food was middling at best. It was fine, not bad but also not spectacular, what one would expect for the $185 / person price. The lounge was very noisy, with groups gathering for the holidays. There was perhaps one other table having tea, so the environment was noisy and not what I expected. I do not like to leave bad reviews, but given the cost of the tea and the experience, I would not recommend this. This could be aided if the hotel and lounge were a bit more descriptive when listing the tea on the hotel website. It was marketed as "festive" - but there was nothing different about it from regular tea, other than the hotel decorations. Additionally, it would have been nice if it mentioned that tea would be served alongside other customers NOT paying for the same experience. All in all, I was disappointed.

We had an amazing time there in the afternoon. Everything was perfect, food, was light and surprisingly delicious in every bite. service was great, the atmosphere and tea set was beautiful. We loved being in the beautiful hotel with all the Christmas decorations. We highly recommend and will be coming back.

Peninsula hotels are wonderful destinations for Christmas season for decorations and atmosphere. High tea was the occasion to sit down with friends and enjoy it all.

One of the best Christmas afternoon tea experience I have had . It was perfect with the live sound of Christmas Carols coming from the entrance of lobby . Service was excellent and tea sandwiches delicious. A wonderful way to celebrate the season with friends and family. This certainly will become a tradition for me.
