Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant - Navy Yard
This is a great place to grab a beer before the game. Friendly staff and convenient. Unfortunately I would not recommend the food. Fish tacos looked good but there was literally one tiny bite of fish. Maybe I made a bad choice but too many other good places nearby to try again
We found this restaurant while living in San Diego. It seems like it has gone a bit more casual than it used to be. The food was good (I became obsessed with the garlic fries when I was pregnant), but it felt like something was missing. I'm not sure what.. but, if you're going up against all of the other restaurants in DC, you better bring your A game every single meal.
Always enjoy my meals here. Good, varied menu with good selection. Service is outstanding. Highly recommend.
Food always decent here. Service on the other hand is always poor, served with an attitude. It took 25 minutes to get my beer. I would have purchased a second beer if I had the time but I had to get to the Nats game. Poor service cost restaurant and the dumb waiter money out of their pockets. Too many other choices around the stadium to put up with incompetence. I already see a decline in guests since years prior. No surprise there. Poorly managed and staffed. Stay away.
enjoy the beer and the food selection, especially because they change seasonally
Despite having an 8 pm reservation, upon arrival we were told we would need to wait at least 45 minutes for a table. The hostess, while apologetic, blamed the inconvenience on Open Table for allowing a reservation to be made. Reservations are meaningless on ballgame days. We won’t try this again. Circa took us without a reservation after only a few minutes wait.
Nice place, great beer, good burger. Convenient location with nice outside seating. It was Sunday afternoon but not busy. Beer was good value; burger was tasty but expensive.
If I could put no stars for everything I would! Sat there for 30 minutes, at a table, with NO SERVICE. Four table that came in behind us got seated and served drinks and appetizers. Yet, we were not even asked for our drink order.
OpenTable and Gordon Biersch Navy Yard need to address a serious disconnect between them. My family and I came to DC for a baseball game, and I made a reservation at Gordon Biersch Navy Yard through OpenTable for the evening after the baseball game because I was sure that it would be a very busy time for the restaurant. A few days before the day of my reservation, I even received a notice from OpenTable asking me to confirm my reservation. On the evening after the game, upon arriving at Gordon Biersch Navy Yard, I showed the hostess my OpenTable reservation and confirmation number, and she informed me that Gordon Biersch Navy Yard does not take reservations on game days, and that my family and I would have to wait close to an hour for our table. If Gordon Biersch Navy Yard does not take reservations on game days, then why was I able to make a reservation for a game day through OpenTable, and therefore make all of my plans and arrangements for that night around having this reservation? It could be considered a deceptive practice to simply get people like us in the door of the restaurant rather than letting us know up front that we might not be able to get a table on that particular night. After all, if I had know that Gordon Biersch Navy Yard does not take reservations on game day, I would have planned to take my family to a different restaurant from the beginning. Gordon Biersch Navy Yard and OpenTable need to address this issue ASAP rather than continuing to deceive potential customers.
Great price for a delightful meal as a pre sports venue
They do not honor open table requests so we were told the wait was an hour and a half. We did not stay.
Unfortunately, the restaurant was not able to accommodate large groups of people. They need new management and staff.
Wouldn’t honor reservation
I've attempted to eat here three times. The first time we went the food was okay, but the server was generally unhelpful when we asked about references for drinks. The second time there was a long wait so we went elsewhere. The third time I made an OpenTable reservation to have a slot. We showed up and they stated that the listing was an error and they did not take reservations on game day. Instead of prioritizing those of us that took time to reserve a slot they continued turn down as many reservations as possible. Those of us that made a stink they said they'd try to seat in 30 minutes. We waited an hour and watched as walk-ins that arrived after many reservations groups were seated. Apparently the staff was short that day (on game day?) and they stopped seating outside too which further reduced tables. Overall - poor management and poor customer service. Will not go again. Will not recommend anyone to go.
rude and unprofessional hostesses, sat at a table for 20-25 minutes and no one came to even offer water. i left without dining.
Reservation was not honored at 8:15 like submitted online. Once seated it took 15 minutes for water and other drinks took even longer. Service did not check on us once food arrived and we had to beg three times for silverware to eat our food with. GB is a good brand but this is a poorly managed location I’d stay away from.
We had confirmed reservations through Open Table. They stated they did not have reservations for us and that they did not take reservations on game days. They probably need to work the bugs out of that system. They were able to find us a table though so I give them credit. Beer was very good. Food was OK.
Great food great service no complaints
Food was excellent, service was attentive and responsive to allergy needs in our party, and overall experience was great! Pleasantly surprised by the quality of the beer!
They did not honor my open table reservation
The service from James was awesome.
I had made a reservation with Open Table two weeks prior to our visit and when we got there, the hostess let us know that our reservation had been cancelled and she tried to call. I never received a call informing me of this.
Had higher expectations. Waitstaff took a long time to get to our table. We had to go to the bar to get drinks. When our food was delivered to our table it was cold. One person from our party didn’t even get their food. It was a busy night in the restaurant, but the waitstaff and kitchen need to get it together. Would not recommend this restaurant when busy.
The party waited over 20 minutes to get drinks. We aarrived 5 minutes late. When drinks were served, no one come over to check on our table for another 15 minutes. Finally, I went and ordered drinks at the bar. We had to do this two more times during dinner.
Sports bar setting. Food is good. Can get really crowded.
Great experience. This was my first experience at this location. We had a great meal and great service.
The food at Gordon Biersch is consistently good. I will miss it when I move.
Food and customer service were outstanding. Not crowded since there was no event at Nats Park.
We stopped in for dinner and then went to the bar for some drinks. The food was delicious and our server was super friendly. When we are in the area again, we will definitely stop by for dinner and drinks again.
While the food was delicious, our horrible service overshadowed it by far. We had to ask multiple times for water, we had to ask for our food and when it was delivered to our table we had our appetizers and meal all brought out together. Except one meal was missing. We never got asked if we wanted drink refills and had to literally walk over to our waitress at the cashiers stand to ask for things.
Sunday afternoon. The restaraunt was empty. Seemed like our waiter wanted to be anywhere but there, and since we were the only ones seated in the dining area, I would have expected a little more 'hmph' and energy. I actually told him I was working way too hard trying to get him to engage with us as his customers. All of our food was disappointing, except for the Sweet Potato Fries which were awesome. The wings tasted like they had been hanging out all day waiting for us to arrive...they were horrible. If I had not experienced 2 of your other locations which were all-around great, I would have left and would not ever return. Even when it's a slow day, enthusiastic service is a non-negotiable.I won't be back to this location.
Stopped here for daughter’s birthday after visiting museums. I was shocked that we were one of maybe 6 groups in the entire restaurant. Service was stellar - Brittany was attentive and food was well prepared.
The birthday girl of the hour enjoyed her meal, especially the bread pudding. Guests dining with her also enjoyed everything!
SHARP METAL FOUND IN SALAD- I went to GB for the the first time on Sunday late afternoon/early evening. The drinks were good as was the atmosphere. However, I found a hard sharp metal object in my salad (discovered it by biting it). Considering how crazy that was, I was underwhelmed with management's reaction to seeing the object. No one knew what it was or where it came from and the object was not just foil or something that in theory could be mixed into a salad. I don't know what goes on in their kitchen but I won't be going back as I don't think their food safety practices are adequate.
We went for my son's birthday and Veterans Day. We were seated right away in a nice booth and our server took care of us almost immediately. The meals were generally quite good, however my steak was a bit tough and my wife's chicken schnitzel was had way too much oil in the sauce. The two beers I tried were true to style and delicious and my wife raved about the peach iced tea. They provided a free desert for my sons birthday which we enjoyed.
Nice food and beer selection, very helpful wait staff
Our waitresses was great but the kitchen staff had problems. I had to send chicken back twice - once for being covered in sauce I requested on the side and again for being undercooked (they also flat out left off the sauce on the side that time). I am appreciative that the manager comped the entre. I just wish the kitchen could have had their ducks in a row.
All went well with the reservation. First cocktails orders were messed up. Otherwise would be 5 stars all around.
Food was great, waitress was too. Tasting the beers was fun. Only negative thing was the person that seated us was a little rude. I said we had a reservation and he said ok with a smirk
Our server was very courteous and helpful. The food was delicious, noise level excellent.
