Arrived for a 6:15 reservation on an event night, so we knew they would be busy. Our server came to our table right away which was great, but that's where it ends. We ordered our drinks and our food immediately, knowing it was an event night, which consisted of several appetizers to share. 15 minutes later, we had to flag our server down and ask for our drinks (bottled beers). She stated "Oh I'll go check on them." The table behind us did the same. After another 10 minutes, we got our drinks. It's now 6:40 and we still hadn't received our food. In the midst of this, I text my husband that we were waiting for food and had been for awhile. He responded and said, "You must be at Gordon Biersch." (Sad that he knew this without me mentioning it) At 7:10, our server returns to our table with food and puts it on the table, never says anything about the wait and walks away. Unfortunately, we were missing one of the appetizers and we couldn't find our waitress. We proceeded to eat our food, which was barely warm and had obviously it had been sitting in the kitchen for quite awhile. We decided to let the missing app go since she obviously didn't put it in on the order, so we would deal. Not once after our food come did she come back to see how our food was or ask if we needed anything. One of the people in our party had an empty water glass almost the entire time we were there and she never asked if she would like a refill. After awhile longer, she comes back and drops the check on the table and walks away. Unfortunately, she had not only charged us for the missing app, but had double charged us for chicken we had asked for. We finally flagged her down again and told her we never got the app so please just remove it and the duplicate charge. She disappeared for another 15 minutes before finally completing it and bringing the correct check back, never apologizing or asking how anything was.
We will not be returning to this restaurant before an event.

We arrived for dinner before a show and were promptly seated. No one came to us after that, however, and the couple next to us said they had been waiting for drinks for 20 minutes. We weren’t going to risk it, so we got up and left just as the other couple did. I let the host know and he seemed to not really care. Clearly the day after St. Patrick’s Day, the entire restaurant just couldn’t give a s&@t. We ended up at Hen Quarter around the corner, and it was great.
Beautiful architecture with old columns throughout makes it an interesting place to dine. Pleasing menu options. Very short walk to Verizon arena. We had nachos, salad and sliders before a concert and it was the perfect choice. Not loud and very nice to step into after fighting traffic to get there!
Is there a way to do no stars or negative? We came on time for our reservation and were sat immediately. There was a gross broom and dust pan next to my broken bar stool seat. 25 mins when I finally complained that we still had no drinks. Server told me someone called out. But offered no apology. I asked for manger she seemed as if she could careless about us walking out or the 3 other tables that did. The women's rest room smelled like a cat litter box and overall it was dirty. I would never go here again. After reading then"mouse" review from an hour ago I feel like we were saved from this place.
This was the worst service I have ever experienced! Sat down at our table in the bar area and placed our drink order pretty quick - 2 glasses of wine. 45 MINUTES LATER we still did not have our wine. We had to ask for water about 20 minutes into our wait. When we asked our waiter what was taking so long he told us we could probably get noticed at the bar better than he could! I honestly think he was on something...he was in a daze the whole time! We witnessed 3 other tables leave because of lack of service. We asked to talk to the manager which she did come to our table. She said they only had one bartender and they were busy (honestly they were not that busy). I told her that was not our problem and she really didn't care. This was a concert night at the CapitalOne Arena - Justin Timberlake... You would have thought they would have planned a little better! The food was delicious and came out in a timely matter. My husband and I always eat at the Annapolis location and they are ALWAYS consistent and staff there are THE BEST!!! I will never go back and give my business to this location.
This is now my second time going to a Gordon Biersch in DC and both times have been a disaster. The management needs to re-evaulate how to properly staff when big artists are visiting the arena close by because both times we were told that half the staff were a no-show or they didn't give us a reason as to why it took 45 min to get a drink. I felt awful for our server who had an ungodly amount of tables on top of being 9 months pregnant. My friend and I arrived before most of the crowds got there and yes service was slow but not horrible but as soon as it started filling up downhill everything went. We were told there was only ONE bartender for the entire restaurant, so after waiting 40 min to get our final drinks we gave up and just got our check and left to get drinks elsewhere. I even told the people who sat behind us if they planned on making it to the concert, which they still had over an hour, they might as well get up and go somewhere else which they did since they had not even been greeted by a waiter and they had been there for 30 min. It really is a shame because its a beautiful establishment with great potential but they really can't get it together like the Tysons Corner location.
My daughter and I went to eat prior to a Concert at the Verizon Center. We had a 5 pm reservation and arrived right at 5 and were seated promptly. Our waitress was very nice, but the bar service was extremely slow. I saw several tables complaining as we waited on our food and even overheard the waitress tell the table next to us that she lost a tip on a $400 bill. We quickly realized what the problem was as we received our food, but waited over 30 minutes for a drink from the bar. We told our waitress that we were going to the concert, so she knew that we were in a hurry. We received our check and STILL had not received our drinks. We decided to leave and deduct the price of the drinks from the tip. Our waitress was frustrated I'm sure, but she never came over to explain the problem and even after we complained to the manager, no drinks!
We were in Washington for a long weekend. Needed a get away! GBBR had a great menu, prices, and service! I had bruschetta chicken one night and next grilled salmon. Both perfect! Our waiter Gary Louis was so personable...felt like we knew him forever. He was so easy to talk to and our order was perfect! Hope to see him again when we visit! Oh and Donna the hostess was also very accommodating! Thank you GBBR for a wonderful meal selection and staff!
Had reservations. Tried seating us at a clearly dirty table. Got appetizer no plates or silverware had to track down server. Ordered the ham and buyers kinda literally had 1.5 thin slices of lunchmeat on entire sandwich. Seemed very unorganized. Won't be back to this location.
Great food and service, would go back again! Good portion sizes for food and drink! Happy hour menu drinks were great!

The food, beer and cocktails were quite delicious. The atmosphere is good and the location is great for accessing several landmarks in DC including Capital One Arena.
Our server was very energetic and personable when he was at our table but unfortunately was a bit distracted and would disappear for quite awhile before checking back so the service wasn't 5 stars.
My sister and I had the worst experience ever. The restaurant was mildly busy, but not packed and we specifically asked to not be seated by the door. They repeatedly told us it was the only available seat. We took it. Mistake #1 the manager opened and held the door all evening. IN 20degree weather. Secondly our waitress Krystal was SO RUDE AND SHORT with us. My sisters food came out cold and my order was wrong. The manager did nothing about it.
We were seated and then did not see a server for 15 minutes. It was 30 minutes before we had our appetizer and another 15 minutes to get our food. Our server rarely checked on us. We had to flag down a different server to ask for our water glasses to be refilled. The first server we asked forgot about us and we had to flag down a second different server to help us. The restaurant was half empty when we got there, but full when we left. I have been to GB a few times before without issue. The food was good, but the service was not good this time.
As is our habit, we went to GB's just prior to the Caps' game, like many other guests that evening. The food was terrific, the service was outstanding, and the whole experience was exceptical! No wonder this has been our favorite place to meet prior to walking over to the hockey game!
If I'd written this review the night I dined here it would have been completely scathing....my service was that bad. But having a few days to think about it, I realized the place is ok. I just got the worlds worst server. This was my second time going before a hockey game. The first time was decent. The food was whatever, not bad, not great, typical bar food and my service was fantastic. So I went back for a second time this week. Food was the same, typical bar food, some decent happy hour prices, I had 2 good drinks. Overall not a bad place for a bite to eat and drink before a game. My server aside, I did see all the other servers working hard, checking on their tables, running drinks, and bringing food and handling the crowd well. Overall, if you don't get my server you can get a decent meal and drinks before a game close to the arena for a relatively good price.
Our group enjoyed a variety of food choices from wings , salads and burgers to sirloin steak with mushrooms. Everyone enjoyed their selection. Our server Lauren was prompt and personable. Thanks to the restaurant for accommodating our early arrival and additional guest!
My dining partner and I had dinner and were going to fill our two growlers, just like we've done several times in the recent past.
Our waitress last night, who was a little curt, but clearly trying her best and checking in with us regularly, immediately hesitated when the growler coupons came up at the end of the meal. She wasn't sure we could use more than one at a time (we've done it four times now) and wanted to consult a manager. Ok, sure.
However, at this point we were unofficially "visited" by no fewer than three of her co-workers who proceeded to sternly lecture us about the rules of using the growlers. We continued to ask for a manager, but the other servers on shift kept coming over to give their own opinions. None of them introduced themselves, they just stood by the table and told us we were wrong in increasingly insulting ways.
It was about this point that our favorite server at this location, Lauren, who actually sold us the growler coupons back in November, came over to the table to defend us. She was actually off her shift, but remained by our table and helped support us. She proceeded to get dirty looks and eventually snide comments from her co-workers for not siding with them. My partner and I were both impressed and grateful that she stayed to help us.
Finally the manager came over, she was visibly really uncomfortable, and really wanted the whole thing over with. I feel the right thing to do would have been to apologize for her team's terrible behavior, promise to make things right, and deal with our check accordingly. It had become an us vs. them atmosphere, which she completely failed to deal with.
It was the worst experience I've had with restaurant employees in years.
Don’t sit near the bar if you want service- wait staff was trying hard but made for less than stellar experience
We had a reservation but didn't seem to need it; there were a lot of empty tables. The lady who seated us was very friendly and outgoing. Out waitress wasn't very attentive. The table was dirty; I don't think that they even pretended to clean it. There were crumbs of food all over the table and it looked greasy. Our food was decent. Burgers were great and the fries were regular old fries with delicious garlic and cheese on them. The tacos were not a hit. Very comfy seats. The building was beautiful inside. Overall it was fine, and I would go back if someone wanted to go, as long as my table wasn't filthy. It wouldn't be my first choice; but it was relatively inexpensive as far as DC restaurants go.
Destiny was a very kind server, decent kids menu. Mac and cheese was Kraft, which was a little disappointing. Sausages were delicious, as was the beer, of course.
Our server was incredibly rude to us. We were a nice group of dad's and their sons and I was truly shocked by how bad our server treated us.
The employess were absolutely fabulous and friendly. It was the quality of the drinks and food that was disappointing. Out of the 10 beverages we ordered, three drinks were sent back because they were poorly made and two drinks were just "tolerated". The manager corrected the beverages and the drinkers were happy.
The food came out "warm" as opposed to hot. The calamari was almost room temp by the time we got it, the legendary garlic fries had all the garlic at the bottom and the chicken wingettes were fried really hard. The other food items were good.
I was once a fan of GB but this expereince has given me pause on taking a group back there again.
Ran late due to traffic but good service still helped us make the puck drop on time at the hockey game!

When we arrived for our reservation, the people in front of us were telling the hostess how they had such a nice time the night before, they wanted to come again. You’d think the hostess would have smiled. Instead, she explained that she really shouldn’t seat them, it was Sunday at 8 pm...if they wanted to eat, they had to seat themselves in the bar. The hostess was just as welcoming to us. Our waiter showed up after 10 minutes and took out drink order. No smiles or friendliness. I do think he tried his best. No one there seemed in a goid mood, we were wondering if they had all gotten bad news. Bad experience. Won’t go back or recommend.

Had party of twelve for lunch and it took hour and a half to get served. Food arrived before beer sampler. Very rude servers. Food was cold. Manager did apologize.
We waited quite a bit before our server approached the table. When she did come to the table she was very uninterested in waiting on us or giving us any kind of service. I wondered if we could have requested a different server without worrying if she would spit in our food. The food was OK at best. We were very disappointed.
My burger was taken back three times because it was under cooked after I specifically asked well done and then the third time the burger was sent back it had a bite mark which was not from me.
Always a pleasant place, especially before Caps games. I ordered the salmon--but because of a diet I was on, I wanted it broiled instead of grilled. No problem. And it came out beautifully--probably the best piece of salmon I have ever had. It was delicious. I also ordered sliced tomatoes instead of the normal side veggies. Also no problem. They were very accommodating.

Took my son for lunch before a Caps game for his 20th birthday. We both had excellent food, and our waitress was great. My only "complaint" is that my feet didn't touch the floor when sitting in the booth (and I'm not short)! More funny than anything else...
Stick with burgers, fries and fried food. Chicken dish wasn’t very good and the salads were good unless you had chicken on them. The service and staff was very nice and friendly.
The service was very poor. Took forever to get drinks. Took forever to get food. Took forever for everything. Wait staff repeatedly forgot about us it seems. This was not a subjective sense of waiting -- lots of apologies from waiter. Just not an experience we'd want to repeat.
We told the waiter when we walked in that we had a little under an hour to get to a show at Ford’s Theater. He was very pleasant throughout our time there but most things arrived slow, and he frequently forgot on the first request. The food arrived late and cold, which generally means that it’s the waiter’s fault. (If it’s late but hot the delay was in the kitchen.) My burger bun was soggy by the time it arrived. If we hadn’t been in a hurry to make the show I would have taken this up with a manager.
Went with my grandsons on a visit to DC and the International Car Show. We really enjoyed the menu selection, and the server was quite delightful. I really enjoyed the in-house brewed beers... fantastic. And the location was in the middle of everything!
Food was great, both the tacos and the Chicken in beer. Lauren was an excellent waitress. Great beers. Will be back soon.
