Gorat's Steak House Ratings and Reviews
Gorats is an Omaha landmark. It is famed as Warren Buffet's favorite steak house in town. While the reputation may outshine the actual restaurant, it is a great choice for dinner while in Omaha. The steaks aree good. A new owner has added a fire grill to the traditional pan seering method for cooking the steaks. I would recommend the traditional cooking method at Gorats. Try the hash browns instead of the baked potato. The service is typical Midwestern friendly. Enjoy.
For once, we did NOT order steak at Omaha's best steakhouse. The fried catfish was a pleasant change and most tasty. The service was very friendly and helpful. With the change of ownership and demodeling last year, Gorat's cast off the old "dining hall" atmosphere and has well lit and decorated rooms.
We will be back frequently.
I have been a customer for years. The changes to the menu and atmosphere are all good. In my opinion. They have kept the best items from the old menus and built some new interesting choices into the mix. The management was present and helpful to the staff on a busy Saturday night. I like the art and memory pieces in the dining rooms.
The historic place is charming and they just remodeled the interior and they owner gave us an impromptu tour. The service was friendly but a bit slow for as few customers there were. The food...well, the Loaded Baked Potato soup was marvelous; however my prime rib was horrible. Nebraska=beef and Gorat's was supposed to be one of the best. No, it was all fat and hard gristle. The flavor was ok, but I had to spit most of it out because I couldn't chew it.The sauteed button mushrooms were good. Skip the beef and go for the very cheesy ckn parm that my date had.
Got seated quickly, but it was a full place and no choice of seating was offered. Our waitress was harried, No time to acknowledge us for quite some time. I very was tempted to leave before we began !
Food was great but restaurant was very noisy. So much so, I couldn't even have a conversation with my company sitting right next to me.
All in all, the experience was good as as long you don't mind waiting and eating in a very noisy restaurant.
We have eaten there several times and the food is excellent and is consistently great. Steaks are perfectly prepared, the chicken fried steak is the best in Omaha, and the onion rings are great and plentiful. I would recommend this to anyone looking for great food, excellent and person service. It is worth the drive from wherever you are. We travel from Plattsmouth regularly to eat there.
After reading other reviews, I was a little nervous. This was my first time to Gorat's, but definitely won't be my last! We had a great time! It was very busy, because I think a living social deal was expiring the next day. Service was very quick & friendly. The only bad point was the Onion Ring appetizer. After hearing so many good things, I was a little disappointed. Onion rings were bland. But, an appetizer really isn't need with all the food you get! Ciabatta rolls in the breadbasket, good salad, and yummy baked potato soup were great!! I got the 6 oz fillet mignon and it was excellent! My husband had the 16 oz prime rib and he said it's the best he's had in a long time. With the living social deal, it was a great bargain!
Gorats has been around forever. A change of ownership made us a little nervous, but they have come through with maintaining great food and service. The steaks are Omaha Steaks, and are very good, not as good as their aged on site steaks from before the change, but still amazing. The remodel is great.
This is a difficult review to write. Our server was very good and apologetic so the negative review in no way reflects on her. The primary complaint was the time it took to receive our food. It started with the appetizer. We finally asked our server to cancel the order. She brought it anyway and did not charge for it. Unfortunately, our entrees also took an unacceptably long time to arrive. Our server again apologized and kept us posted on the progress. The restaurant was not particularly busy and or orders were not complicated. I do not see us going back anytime soon.
Ate at Gorat's for the first time in years. My 6oz filet was the best steak I have had in my 25+ years of eating steaks in Omaha. We took advantage of Omaha Restaurant Week to try their three course deal. My chicken satay appitizer was perfect with a great dipping sauce. The salad was fresh. The baked potato and veggie with the steak were standard. The bananas foster bread pudding dessert was most tasty and huge.
The service was friendly and efficient.
First time at the "new" Gorat's, and our group of six was pleasantly surprised. We were greeted by a friendly young woman at the door, and then quickly seated by another friendly front desk person. Our server, Stephanie, was outgoing without being too much so. She was very knowledgable about the wines and menu items. She spoke with a firm voice that carried over the surrounding noise. Our order was taken promptly, and served in a reasonable time. Everything was prepared correctly. The tables were well spaced so we didn't feel crowded.
I probably would not have thought of Gorat's if they were not on Open Table when I looked for a place to dine last Friday. They are now on our list of places to go back to again.
Food was good, service good. Prices seemed appropriate. A little too noisy for our taste. Owner ( I believe) was very personable. We were there on a Living Social but plan to return. We may ask if there is a quieter area. Overall, we did enjoy it and would recommend it.
