Food was exceptional. Server could have been more attentive and offered dessert.
The food was fantastic, the live music was wonderful (I'm told it wasn't their usual band), and the service was great. Our server was there when needed and offered recommendations when asked. Absolutely will be going back.
Our server was very personable and conversational. Made us such a focus point and frequently checked in on how we were enjoying the food and was on the ball with refilling our water glasses. The restaurant itself looked great and had such cleanliness to it. And the food was excellent! We both left very content!
This place does not miss. Always consistent and delicious!
Service was a bit bumpy that night. Homemade ginger beer needs a rework. But food is excellent and overall it was lovely.
Always great to eat there. The food and service is always top notch.
Okay, but pricey. Food ranges from very good (calamari) to unappetizing (soggy cauliflower). Steak itself was excellent.
Service was a tad slow at first. Then after intros and drinks ordered. From then on everything, including th food was great. All four of us enjoyed our meals and the ambience.
We had our family of five there for dinner including our young grand daughter and we had a great time. The service was good and the food was excellent. We were waited on promptly and congenially by our waitress. Our grand daughter is a very friendly one and our server entertained her attentions quite nicely.
Took the family for a birthday party. Nobody liked their food, we waited for over an hour.
My sons' hamburger was burnt.
My chicken fried steak and potatoes were bland, I thought I had covid for a minute. I have tried many over the years and this was by far the worst.
My other son's open-faced roast beef was horrible. I drowned it in bbq sauce at home to make it eatable.
On our 2 crab salads, the crab patty was burnt.
Only a name, we won't be going back!
We recently visited Gorat’s for the first time and it was also our anniversary. When I made our reservation I noted that it was for a special occasion and upon arriving we were sat at the first table in dining room right outside the kitchen. Not very quiet nor romantic. It was probably 10 mins after being seated before our waitress arrived to take our drink order. Did not ask us if we had been there previously or had any questions about the menu. Gave us time to decide on our choices. We had decided to dress for the event noticing that the dress code was stated as business casual, but it it was nothing near that. In shirt and slacks and my wife in a nice outfit we were highly overdressed for the room. Torn jeans and a hoodie would of sufficed. It is mostly an older crowd at 6 in the evening so you can imagine it is loud with conversations. Our food arrived and looked simple enough. 6 oz filet medium steamed broccoli and rice pilaf. My wife ordered the grilled walleye steamed broccoli and also rice pilaf. Broccoli is cold and rice pilaf is grey in color with no real flavor. My steak was cooked perfectly but I can see why they offer so many sauces as add ons because there was zero seasoning on the steak. My wife’s fish was covered in a garlic butter sauce that was enough drown an already dead filet. Flavorful but definitely overkill. Our meals with one drink from the bar each rang up to $84. Needless to say the oldest steakhouse in the city isn’t always the best. We had a great evening but were sadly disappointed in the place we chose. That is reason behind our two stars.
Gorat's has very enjoyable live music several times a week, which is the main reason we went. My husband had a burger which was delicious with very fresh ingredients. I had the open face prime sandwich with mushroom gravy and mashed potatoes, which was tasty but heavier than I had expected. We shared the fried cheese ravioli which are large and delicious with marinara sauce. I also had a very pleasing $10 glass of wine. Our server was pleasant and attentive. Most of the patrons were 60+ and the music was geared to that demographic (which includes us). If you like nostalgic music and old-fashioned steakhouse food, you will enjoy Gorat's. The prices are comparable to other steakhouses around Omaha. If it's your style, I highly recommend Gorat's!
New Year’s Eve celebration!! The restaurant was definitely busy, but service was still great, as was the food. I haven’t been to Gorat’s in years, but will definitely be back again soon.
A couple of the best and most perfectly cooked steaks we’ve had in a while! Gorats is a classic old school steakhouse. Try them if you haven’t been there recently. Think you will enjoy. Bar staff was busy but attentive, wait staff was very on top of things even though they were busy, even the bus boy was good!
First visit but did not live up to the hype, at least for steaks. Salad was only lettuce until another at my table sent her soup back, twice, because it was cold, and asked for salad. Hers was lettuce, cucumber. and tomatoes. Had to ask for the same. Steak was medium rare instead of medium. Side of mushrooms was two tablespoon fulls - not a value for the cost.
Great service, good sirloin for the price. Will go again.
We had a great time. Excellent food.
The food was delicious, but at our table of 6 all of our meat (various steaks) were cold. The sides were hot and perfect but the butter didn’t even melt on top of the steak because it wasn’t hot. Service was good, drinks were good. But for the money we are paying I would expect a hot or at least warm steak.
Gorat's is always a superb steakhouse. After all, it is Warren Buffett's favorite.
Bart, our waiter, was great. While we decided, he brought a nice martini. We both ordered the 6oz filet. In this steak town, it is at the top in taste and texture. As I did not care for the veggie of the night (broccoli), he deliver another side at no extra cost.
We will return often.
After waiting 1.5 hours for food, my "medium rare" steak was rare. The waitress and the manager were completely dismissive. They were busy (however patrons came and went while we waited for our food), and we would have been understanding if they had used any ounce of grace in their delivery. Very disappointing for a restaurant with the legacy they have. I was so excited to visit for the first time, but it will definitely be my last.
It was a very busy Christmas Eve dinner shift, and we had a VERY good waitperson, but she was severely hampered by VERY slow food production in the kitchen. The limited waitstaff was over-taxed by having to cover way more tables than reasonably possible.
Another dining patron made us aware that Gorat's had recently been sold and was under new ownership and management; but if this dining experience was any indication, the new owners were/are horribly unorganized and underprepared for the future.
Whomever was preparing food in the kitchen needs some training and guidance, as well as a decent sense of timing and expediency. Overall, the food was fair to average at best, although the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes were excellent as an appetizer and the best part of our meal.
Our dining experience did NOT live up to the storied tradition and excellence of Gorat's, and we would be hesitant to return anytime soon.
We feel Warren Buffett would be very sad, as well.
Christmas Eve. Server was great however it took 1 hr 15 min to get food. People that came in after us ate and left before we got our food. Nothing we ordered was complicated.
Just ok, tough cuts of steak, bad crab, just not what we had hoped for for $200.
Service was slow and the food was average. Not worth the money
I lived in Omaha all my life first time there and loved it.
First time there. Fabulous food, bad table right by the exit and bathroom for 2 service slow but it is holiday season and will definitely go back.
Debatably the worst service I’ve ever received while at a restaurant. On the flip side, it was also some of the best food I’ve ever had.
My party was:
- seated 20 minutes after our reservation time
- served our appetizer an hour and 15 minutes after ordering
- served our food two hours after the reservation time
Terrible service. Took over 3 hours to eat.
The food was excellent and the waitress was friendly and helpful
Best Whiskey Ribeye ever. I would definitely go back to get it again.
The food was under cooked and bake potatoes were hard, was not worth the 200.00 the meal cost us,.
Best and almost the only restaurant in town for live music for dining.
Food and service were AMAZING!! They even had a band laying at the bar (not loud—great background ambience) playing some classic rock tunes!
Hadn’t been there since I was a kid, but will definitely return!! Gorat’s is DEFINITELY one of the last of the fine Omaha Steakhouse treasures!!!
Sat next to a very loud table. Had trouble hearing people at own table. Service was excellent. Food was very good.
Great meal and great service. Rita anticipated our needs every step of the way and we will be sure to ask for her when we go back.
Great food, especially the steaks. Only minor comments were slight over salting of the steak and an over-steamed vegetable medley, but everything else was delicious, including the pumpkin cheesecake.
Our server was also wonderful.
Our waitress was excellent and super nice. Food was good.
Nice crowd. Was glad to see. Ordered a filet but it was under cooked. I didn’t send it back cuz my boyfriend loves rare but I ordered Medium light not rare. Onion rings and salad good. Pasta sauce was not good…… I used to love their sauce but this was paste plus dried spices…… too bad to lose Netties sauce. Burgers are great. Fries very good. Service very good! Fun atmosphere. Overall a nice evening. Love Omaha’s local destinations!
Just enough for lunch! Blueberry crisp needed more crisp. 😊
The service was very rushed. Had I had a chance to read the menu, I would not have ordered what I ordered.
