Gorat's Steak House
Located in Omahas Midtown neighborhood, Gorats Steak House serves American cuisine with a focus on hand cut steaks. The menu includes steak, seafood, sandwiches, salads, soups and more. Gorats Steak House also has a full bar including domestic and imported beer, wine and spirits.
Start out your meal at Gorats Steak House with an appetizer like the beer-battered onion rings or the jumbo lump crab cakes. Choose from a variety of cuts of steak like sirloin, rib eye and filet mignon or go a bit lighter with the bourbon glazed salmon. For vegetarians, try an entre salad like the Caesar salad.
Our waitress was missing a lot. We had to catch the hostess a lot to try and get steak sauce, or bread.
The filet was amazing. Perfectly cooked to order. Great service and comfortable atmosphere. Absolutely loved it! Will he back!
Warren Buffett’s favorite or no, this place just isn’t good. We were there for the Mother’s Day brunch, and the food was well below average, particularly for $25 per person. The brisket was tasty and the cake was good, but that was it. Our server, however, was top notch! We won’t be back.
The five of us had an absolutely delightful time. All of the food was excellent, and most of us took doggy bags home. The wine selection was good, and the wine we chose was tasty.
Our server was pleasant, quick, and answered all of our questions. Nice, nice person.
All in all, it couldn't get much better.
I have been to Omaha only three times and everytime visited Gorats and it just gets better and better - service value, food and wine all very good and well worth the visit
Memorable experience to dine at Warren Buffett's restaurant.
What’s the rush Rita?
“God doesn’t give with both hands” is a proverb that seems to be quite apt when partaking in the epicurean taste of the Oracle of Omaha. For while no one chooses investments better than Mr. Buffett, I doubt the same has ever been said about his choice in restaurants.
I suppose if your regular diet consists of McDonalds and Dairy Queen, then perhaps Gorat’s is a welcome change. But for anyone that has experienced steak at Peter Luger or any of its offspring, the t-bone here comes closer to the fare of the Omaha Zoo or one of those restaurant chains where a microwave serves as the chef.
To make matters worse, the dreadful food can be served by someone who talks to you as if you’re in the middle of a loud concert even though it’s perfectly quiet, and as if she has somewhere to be in the next three seconds and so will generously spare you with one of them to take your order or toss some dishes your way.
Never have we felt so rushed by a waitress, and mind you this was on a night where less than half the tables in our half of the restaurant were taken. I quiver in my boots imagining what it would be like during a full house. She was hardly there, and when we did see her, she was barreling across the room as if she were driving a stolen express train.
Although having the meat share a fork with the hash brown made the experience not so bad, it wasn’t until the bill came that we understood the likeliest reason this restaurant is Mr. Buffett’s favorite.
It was pretty darn, cheap. At least.
my very first visit there. walking into very loud music in the lounge which I knew nothing about, I will give them that. the menu is very broad. waitress was very nice and attentive for the most part. the salad was nothing special whatsoever. The lady I was with ordered prime rib was cooked just as she asked- very very tasty. my porkchops Very blah- no seasoning. plenty of apple compote (maybe that was to smother the blindness of the pork chop) I’m not certain. expectations were way too much. it was Friday night the place was 1/3 full. I’ve been in this business of service and the food industry all my adult life. I did absolutely expect more. maybe it was just an off night but it surely must be better than this
Great food; everything was delicious! The service was superlative. The wine list covered the bases and was unusually affordable.
Great steaks and really good service. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Gorat's used to be my favorite steakhouse but the last few times my friends and I have gone there we've been very disappointed. The quality and taste of the whiskey ribeye is not what we have to expect from Gorat's. The waitress we had was visibly and verbally upset when I decided to send my steak back in which I don't understand why she would be, no one should be expected to eat and pay for food that wasn't to their satisfactory. At this point we have decided it will be a long time before we choose to dine at Gorat's again.
I had asked for a separate room for a family dinner of 10 people. Unfortunately there was a birthday party going on near us that was very loud, so we are on able to hear what each other were saying at our table. It was only after I was leaving, that I noticed there was a retractable partition that could’ve been closed to give us more privacy and reduce the noise.
Otherwise, everyone raved about the delicious food and friendly service.
My sister, son and I had a wonderful meal. The wait staff did an excellent job with answering our questions and ensuring that our food arrived as ordered.
It had been decades since I had eaten here and I was back in town on business. Very good and friendly service from the waitress to the hostess. The wine by the glass I ordered didn’t taste as expected and it was either from a bottle that had been open awhile, or a different wine. The whiskey ribeye was tasty, but too firm and chewy compared to what I get at better steakhouses. But for the price I paid it was fair, and the attentive and friendly service made up for it.
Took a chance on trying this place when my family was in town and absolutely fell in love. Great food, huge portions, attentive service, owner visited every table to ask how things were, and my digestive system felt completely fine afterward for the rest of the night, even after eating a big meal (which tells me they don't use a ton of chemicals that normally make my stomach upset). Highly recommend!
Katrin (sp?) provided superb, friendly, and professional service. As always my prime rib was superb. I do think the chef is not accurate on his slicing -- my "12oz" serving was certainly larger than that. :-)
Her veal was also most tasty. The sides were great. My martini came promptly and was perfect.
Also as usual, we had plenty to take home. Our waitress boxed them quickly.
Our usual bottom line about Gorat's: If Warren Buffett eats there regularly, so will we!
Bread was terrible. ordered a steak which came out well done instead of medium.
Need more variety of vegetables.
Had a delicious meal when passing through Omaha. Loved it. Rita was great!
Awesome food. We were seated right away and even though we were in the dining room we could hear the live music in the bar. We had a great family dinner!i highly recommend the spinach dip and the filet!
The service from Rita was outstanding! She did a fantastic job. The food was, unfortunately, not at the same standards as she is. I had marsala chicken. The chicken was pounded to the point of having a babyfood-like consistency. The texture was incredibly off-putting. I had the salad wedge and it was absolutely doused in dressing. The sweet potato fries were outstanding. The wild rice tasted burnt. The carrot cake dessert was very good, but I do not believe it is made in house. The ambience was OK and surprisingly quiet. If I were choosing the spot to dine, I would not return any time soon.
Appetizer and sides were good but y New York strip had no flavor and the waitress forgot to put our order in for a while.
We had great service in a very clean environment and good food. Plan on us returning again.
Everything was great! The only things I would of changed would be, our salads came out very small and the sever had to get more lettuce for us. The server also seemed very overwhelmed and needed to slow down and maybe be a little more personable. All in all it was a great dinner and we would definitely return to Gorat’s!
Met family for dinner, had a great meal!!! The filet was awesome, love a Steakhouse with hashbrowns on the menu!!!
This was not what I was expecting. The food was mediocre at best, the ambiance was not a romantic dinner destination, and the price was ridiculous. I will not be returning. It had plastic table cloths, it was too brightly lit, and was more of a Dennys atmosphere. It was one big room with tables quite close together and several birthdays going on with singing and candles, which was a bit disruptive. Disappointed to say the least.
Everything about this place was outstanding. The prices for food and wine are generous and the staff made for a memorable evening. Go!
Meal lukewarm. Steak underdone. Good waitress. Not sure I’d recommend.
Food was OK. Presentation was not outstanding. Basic dish was good but the other sides were not presented well and were over cooked. Menu was short and did not reflect the great values that the regular menu has.
Service was outstanding.
Noise from bar was excessive
Seating was outside the restrooms and traffic to and from was irritating while trying to enjoy meal
Nest fillet in Omaha! We make it at least a few times a year.
Arrived at 615 and took till 845 to
Eat some subpar food and pay tab. We likely wont be back.
Service was great from the server and hostess. Bartender was overwhelmed with number of orders, but good. Two of the three steaks at the table were sent back because they were medium or medium well when both were ordered medium rare. Only complaint about ambiance was the weird paintings of farm animals (hard to look at a painting of a cow while eating a steak). There was a music recital going on in the bar area that was interesting.
The appetizers and the wine were amazing. The waitress was very thorough and prompt.
It was nice. But not superb compared to the cost.
That is, for the price I would have expected more culinary innovation and presentation. Decor wasn't overwhelming warming.
Great prime rib. Service was excellent. However I was not a fan of the little package of sour cream. I’d prefer if the kitchen staff dress the baked potato and maybe offer a fully loaded option. Otherwise great meal and will be back!
When the music in the bar began it was almost impossible for our group of four to hear one another.
The food, service and ambiance were quite good.
Minimal wait for a Saturday night. Server was friendly and very customer focused. Food was good but it was not hot when it was served.
Food was good, prices were good. Ambiance is very loud and the waitress seemed annoyed. Food took 45 minutes, they were out of prime rib so I had to settle for a steak instead.
Got the 22 oz T Bone. Ordered medium and was rather tough. Had very little flavor. Was not impressed with steak. Appetizers were good.
My granddaughter picked Gorat’s for her 19th birthday family dinner. Food was wonderful!! Frankie’s service was on point!! The 8 of us can provide challenges to servers - everything was perfect!!
In from Milwaukee house-hunting and was referred to this special restaurant by our agent. What a great surprise! Amazing food, excellent and friendly service and really fun jazz music. We will definitely return when we move to Omaha!
