Come celebrate Fathers Day at Goodall's Kitchen!

Overpriced Mother’s Day brunch with terrible service. $85 per adult for a small food selection that was left out for hours. Waiter didn’t even take drink orders. Lovely space with incredible potential but terrible execution.
When I booked Goodall's kitchen for Mother's Day brunch, there was no mention of a special menu on Open Table. I looked at the menu and brunch offerings looked nice. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised to find a nice buffet... until the bill arrived. $72 a person? Seriously? The buffet was nice, but really? That didn't include drinks other than coffee and soft drinks. I would have been okay with $50, but $72?! I felt had on Mother's Day and it left me in a sour mood unlikely to return.
UT and other artwork on the walls - lovely. Service was good but when I pointed out a napkin and stray raspberry under an empty table, the staff failed to take action. The next patron had smashed raspberry on her shoes. Food tasty but small portions. Blueberry dessert was delicious.
The staff was both very accommodating and attentive.
We brought our dog and they were kind enough to pull tables together on the porch, a “hotel Ella” branded bandana for our dog, a water bowl, and a treat.
Great service, good food, and a great way to spend a few hours with family for a leisurely breakfast.
Went for brunch, not very lively. Ordered the migas, which they should not be called. For $14, it was a pathetic little bowl of mostly beans topped with an egg and some other items. I was disappointed in both the dullness of the ambiance and the "migas."
We had Easter Brunch here. For well over $200 (2 adults, 2 kids, buffet only), the buffet offerings were mediocre at best, and greasy and tasteless at worst. The menu looked good, but the food just wasn't prepared well. The setting is lovely, and service was fine, but we will not be back - there are many great brunch places in Austin, and this was the worst brunch we've had in over a decade here.
What a great experience! It was my first time there, staff was welcoming and very helpful in making sure I was comfortable. Waiter was friendly and attentive. Food was very satisfying. A great spot for a laidback lunch for personal or business visits. I will see y'all again Hotel Ella!
This was the best food I have eaten in years. From the starters, to the entrees and then desserts, everything was outstanding with unexpected flavors!
We were staying at the hotel and so it was a nice and easy way to eat and they are very accommodating. Thank you!
Delicious cocktails, appetizers, and meal! Service was excellent.
This was the worst experience I’ve ever had in a restaurant. We were shown to our table and told that a server would be right over. Then we sat for almost 15 minutes without a single acknowledgement of our presence - not even a glass of water. I am not an overly demanding restaurant patron and can understand a short wait for a server if the restaurant were busy; however in this case there was only ONE OTHER OCCUPIED TABLE. We decided it would be better to leave rather than spend an evening in an establishment that demonstrated so little concern for its customers. We didn’t even see anyone on the way out to notify that we were leaving. I would have given this so-called restaurant a rating of 0 if that option were available.
Good afternoon diner! I wanted to take a minute to thank you for your feedback regarding Goodall's. Though this is certainly not what I like to read, honest feedback is essential in improving the operation of our restaurant. I would love to hear more from you and if you could reach out to me directly, I would love to arrange to make time to provide you with a true Goodall's experience. Thank you again, Matt Horsley Director of Food and Beverage Hotel Ella | Goodall's Kitchen
Great for breakfast! Easy to park, delicious food, hot coffee. Not to mention a beautiful venue. I particularly like it for business meetings over breakfast.
We went for a late brunch at around 2:00 on Sunday not too many people it seemed like a transition time as the tea service starts about 2:30, but our waiter was great made sure we were taken care of. We had the shakshuka and migas very tasty and surprisingly filling ended the brunch with a delicious lemon tart I increasingly mentioned it was my birthday and they comped us our dessert. It was such a nice gesture. Valet is free for people eating at the restaurant. Excellent experience and food was very good.
So disappointed in our experience here. We arrived for a 6:00 reservation and the dining room was practically empty. After our order was taken it took almost 50 minutes for our food to be delivered, two of the dished appetizers, one of them an entree. Not once did the service person ever come over and explain the delay. When the food arrived, my tart was lovely to look at but not good. The flavors and textures seemed like a mishmash. Based on this experience, we will not be back. So sad, because this is a lovely hotel and dining room.
I was disappointed in my experience here. I started with an order of shishito peppers and they were not cooked. I had to send them back. For my entree, I ordered the Kale and Spinach salad. It was missing any kale! After dinner we wanted to go to the bar for an after dinner drink (it was about 7:30 p.m.) and the bar was closed. Don't think any of us will be returning.
Small portions and oddly awkward/ detached service made for a family dinner that was less than rousing. Beautiful space renovated lovingly and respectfully. Especially love the photos by Matt Lankes and jewels and items belonging to the Goodall Wooten broods.
Delicious food but small portions for a steep price. For example, three jumbo scallops for $34 is pretty ridiculous. Great art along the walls and attentive service otherwise!
The setting and ambiance of Goodall's Kitchen in the Hotel Ella can't be beat, and we had some delicious food for dinner! However, the service was terrible. Our waiter was kind and did a good job when we finally got his attention, but had to search him out each time we needed something. We also made a reservation for a 5-course Valentine's Day dinner. Then upon looking at their website saw it listed as 5-course, 3-course, and 4-course. Ended up receiving a 3-course with an amuse bouche. Very frustrating!
We had Valentine’s Day dinner at Goodall’s Kitchen. It was a fixed menu, which normally I do not care for, yet we were not disappointed! Everything from the ambiance, the service to the meal were delightful! The first course of oysters and a crab bisque were incredible. They were both light and fresh and delicious. Chef came to our table (and others) to serve the crab bisque and then stopped and spoke to us after dinner. We were able to compliment him on everything. We had pork tenderloin as our main dish and it was superb. Our desserts were a strawberry cake and apple torte. Our meal portions were enough but not too large where we were able to enjoy each course without feeling overly full. We are very glad we chose to have dinner at Goodall’s Kitchen. It will be a restaurant we will frequent.
Went here for Valentines Day dinner. Whole experience from walking in to dessert was excellent.
The food, service, and ambience was great. The drinks were amazing
One of our very favorite places for brunch with both family and old friends.
Food is interesting and good and different with lovely presentation. We love the
ambience. Lovely historic building. Very friendly staff. Valet parking. Food appeals
to young and old. Customer diversity.
I would not recommend this place. Food was OK, service was good. Ambiance is plain, very quiet -- very similar to a bed-n-breakfast atmosphere. Not my cup of tea.
We had a wonderful experience at Goodall’s. The staff is exceptionally friendly and prompt with the service.
I highly recommend and will be going back soon!
Delicious and love the ambiance and beautiful art!
This place was fantastic for a New Years Eve dinner date and the service was phenomenal! The desserts were truly the best part of the meal (even though the entrees and main course were incredibly fantastic as well). What a cozy, small restaurant. It felt incredibly spacious and had a great ambiance - I will definitely be coming back!
Outstanding! This was our first time to dine at Goodall’s Kitchen at Hotel Ella and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere of the historic property is charming and cozy with touches of modern flair. We live in Austin and have added Goodall’s Kitchen to our list a favorite local restaurants. It also looks like a beautiful property for weddings but, I’m already happily married!
Once a larger group of all adults were seated, we were ignored to the point we had to go to the hotel front desk to get someone to come and refill our water. I booked brunch to celebrate my UT son's 20th birthday, told the restaurant when I made reservations...they never acknowleged a birthday or special occasion. I really detest wait staff righting off a table containing 1 adult, 1 college student, 1 16 year old and a 9 year old girl as not worthy of good service and respect. I take my children to nice restaurants all over the US, they behave, they enjoy trying new things to eat and to be dismissed because it's not a table full of adults ordering expensive drinks is disgraceful but earns you a very small tip. The food was mediocore and not at all what I expected...don't waste your time and money
We have broadway season tickets and enjoy many of the higher end restaurants around the university before each show. We were surprised and a bit worried when we got there and it was fairly empty on a Friday evening but it was one of our favorites. We liked it more than many of the very trendy, hard to get into spots.
Good but overpriced. Soup small bowl 10.00. Limited menu. Menu on line differs from restaurant menu. Also historical facts printed about restaurant/house are inaccurate
Everytime everything is outstanding!!!
Service not very good waiters brought wrong food to table or servers. Got charged for orange juice didn't order.no one brought check had to wait and ask for it.
Quaint spot for lunch. Nice atmosphere for business or pleasure. Nice menu (small but I think that's a good sign). Valet parking, which is really helpful in this area.
We made a 6 pm reservation on a Saturday night for 6 people. We were seated as the only folks in the restaurant at the time. It became quite busy after the "game" about 7:30pm, and the service became got even worse. We should've been out the door by then, but it was well after 8:30 before we left because we couldn't get the check. Food was mediocre for the prices, and all of us were left hungry. Our vegetarian's meal of several vegetable sides ended up the most expensive, yet she went away the hungriest. I regularly eat out at higher end restaurants in Austin, but we won't return here without notice of a significant change.
Limited menu choices, but the meals we selected were very good.
Great as usual! Never a bad meal and hope it sticks around the hard to stick around Austin dining scene!
This was our 2nd visit and it was nothing like our first. During this visit, the waiter gave our appetizers away to the next table (which they ate) then had trouble getting us our replacements. During our main course, they forgot one of the side dishes. The serving staff was very nice and apologetic, and they even took two appetizers off the bill, but the food was mediocre and the place was empty—strange for a Saturday night.
The lunch options were very limited...the ambiance was wonderful. SAve this find for cocktails at the bar
Price fix menu was delicious and quite generous portions. Dessert was AMAZING
