The service was very slow. The waitress didn’t seem to know much about the menu. The valet was slow. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Excellent experience overall. Food was very good. The server did his best to keep our table supplied. However, in fairness to the wait staff, they're expected to not only serve food and drink, but create the adult beverages as well. If you need a quick meal I would not plan to eat here, but if you're if for some casual dining, then this is the place to go.
The food was delicious. I had the steak and my wife had a salad. The menu is extremely limited and as a former server left a lot to be desired.
Super bowl Buffet and Viewing was fantastic! We took our
3 year old Grandson because it was advertised as family friendly.... and it was!
The table and wall were dirty when we were seated. We were first through the Super Bowl buffet and it was bad: hard cold waffle fries, pooling grease on the chili, and no veggies. The servers were good, but they knew the food was embarrassing.

Very disappointing...with only one other table with a family, my partner & I were disappointed in the service for Saturday brunch (in other words, they weren’t so busy that they couldn’t attend to us). I asked for adding a la carte grilled shrimp to my meal, and the 3 shrimp came uncooked. Sent them back to the kitchen and this took so long , that my partner had to eat his brunch while I watched & waited. The wait staff barely apologized when she finally brought my meal. The Bloody Mary ‘s also disappointed, when the first round came in a larger sized glass than the two following rounds, BTW these rounds were neither as strong nor more concentrated, just smaller portions.
How unfortunate, since this is a lovely hotel and so quaint!
I made an 11am reservation for Sunday brunch, which is supposed to be a buffet according to Open Table. After waiting a few minutes to check in the hostess said they were clearing a table and it would just be a few minutes. After waiting another ten we checked in with a different front desk person, who had no idea we were waiting for table and said we'd be seated right away. We had a performance to get to, which we told the staff. 30 minutes after our original reservation time we finally walked into the restaurant to see what was going on. The hostess apologized and said we'd be seated but that the restaurant was running really behind due to a large wedding party from the night before. And in fact, it was no longer a buffet. We ended up leaving at this point as we had to grab quick bite somewhere else before our performance. A few recommendations 1) Update the information on Open Table, no Sunday brunch buffet. 2) Hotel Ella, if you know you're going to be slammed with a wedding party, block out reservations for Sunday morning. Very disappointed!

Great Thanksgiving buffet!
I was celebrating a birthday with a friend and wanted to take her somewhere special. Goodall’s turned out to be a special place. From the historical hotel it resides in to the excellent food! We both enjoyed our meals and the ambience. I will definitely be coming back!

Among the most inept wait staff I've experienced in my life. Clearly no one in charge who knew anything about running a restaurant. Had a reservation and seated immediately. 10 minutes before I had to ask for a waiter. I was told our waiter did not show up, so the Hostess/manager took drink orders. Another 15 minutes to get drinks, and the Hostess took our orders. 30 minutes later I noticed the table next to us had been seated, given their order, received their salads and were eating their entrees. I asked about our salads and the Hostess said that she didn't know how to put in an order and it got all messed up. She then brought two salads, but did not have the other two starters - explaining that one "had been delivered to another table by mistake". We finally got our entrees, and two were cooked wrong - one rare instead of medium, the other well done instead of rare.
To be fair, our hostess/manager-waitress did remove the cost of an entree from our bill. I have also heard that this is 'par for the course in Austin' - either way, very disappointed.
service was horrendously slow and despite manager's assurances that they were working on it, it never improved. there was a wedding in the hotel and they were terrible understaffed. never going back.
Not a good first impression. Valet attendant seemed inexperienced. No hello and didn’t open car doors. Same upon departure. Waitstaff was pleasant but slow. Food was great! Maybe just an off night service wise- short-handed possibly.
We had a reservation for two at 6:15 on a Saturday evening. We also had tickets to an event that started at 8pm a few blocks away. When we arrived, it was a little confusing figuring out where to pull in, park, etc. We ended up just valeting, which was complimentary. We saw the sign for the restaurant and proceeded in, which turned out to be sort of a side entrance. It was a little awkward trying to figure out where to go and then had to walk through the dining room to check in. We were seated right away by a friendly host. Then, we waited for a VERY long time for anyone to help us. I finally did one of those “look around for the waiter impatiently” looks and happened to make eye contact with someone who was peeking out from behind the kitchen area. A server then came over and things started to pick up. We ordered drinks and the crab fritter appetizer. The drinks came out in a reasonable amount of time, the app shortly thereafter, and we ordered our main courses. The Old Fashioned was very good with the classic single large ice cube. The corn fritters were visibly over done, but tasted okay. With more time, we might have decided to send them back. Our mains again were prompt and this time the food was very well prepared. The pork tenderloin was perfectly cooked and flavorful. The kale that came with the salmon was also a highlight. Unfortunately, we did not have time to stay for dessert (which looked delicious) since we had gotten off to such a slow start.
They only serve brunch at noon every day and the menu was mostly breakfast. That’s why it was totally empty at prime lunch time.

The portions of food were reasonable (not ridiculously huge, just enough), and the food was delicious. My husband enjoined the pork loin, and I had the tagliatelli with saffron and squid ink, gulf shrimp and crab. The ambience of he dining room, with it's historic feel, is very comforting. The service was excellent, and the prices are reasonable.
The buffet was over priced and underwhelming no choices for gluten or dairy free, most pans empty.
I was underwhelmed with my experience here. We paid $40 for brunch. One imagines omelet stations, waffles, pancakes, fresh pastries, several meat options, right? They ran out of pancakes by 12:30 pm. They had no pastries. The fruit was hard. The desserts were just taken out of the fridge. It took an extremely long time to get mimosas. The staff was really nice and definitely made it right with the mimosas, but not much you could do with the buffet. I wish they gave people the option with ordering off the menu ... if I had another option it surely would not be the buffet.
That was, by far, the biggest waste of $40. The food was horrible and the choices were limited.
What a gem in the heart of Austin! Tthe moment we were seated by a super-friendly wait staff we knew we were in for a treat! The magnificent dining room was replete with the class from days gone by. The food was superb--pork loin for me, scallops for my wife. Wonderfully flavorful and the perfect portions for us. Wait staff were fun and provided great service. We couldn't recommend this place more. We have already recommended it to numerous friends.

I would give Goodall's five stars, except for the ambiance. Goodall's is in Hotel Ella, which was the Mansion on Judge's Hill before a major renovation. The old dining room was elegant: plush carpeting, heavy drapes, tasteful paintings on the walls, starched white tablecloths and napkins, plush Victorian chairs, and an elegant fireplace with a beautiful mantel. All of that is missing from Goodall's, which was a disappointment. But the food is excellent, and the wine list seems to match the cuisine. We went to Goodall's for an Austin Restaurant Week outing, but the Restaurant Week offerings weren't to our taste, so we ordered from the regular menu, and we're glad that we did. Appetizers, salads, and desserts were excellent across the board. A couple of glasses of Prosecco and a bottle of McPherson's Sangiovese (from the Texas High Plains) rounded out a great meal. And the service matched the food and wine. Our attentive (but not hovering) waiter passed two acid tests of proper service: (1) He properly presented our wine, and topped us off at just the right moments. (2) He waited until both of us were through with each course before removing our tableware. The bill was reasonable, given the quality of the food, wine, and service. I've often paid more in Austin for a less-than-satisfactory dining experience. Goodall's is high on my list of Austin restaurants.
First visit. Not much parking but the valet service is very good. Wait staff was friendly and the food was delicious. Not a place to go if you are in a hurry but very enjoyable if you want to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. We will be back again.
This place has quite the history and wonderful character. I would recommend it if you’re looking for a nice dinner out.
Our dinner was great! We enjoyed the pork belly appetizer a lot. I had the fish and he had strip steak. The fish dish was the winner. Service was great and drinks were delicious. The room is a little hot but I understand it is an older building and it is summer in Texas. Brunch the next morning was unimpressive so I would save the money and calories on the brunch but the Bloody Mary was pretty tasty!
Brunch around 11:30am on Saturday July 5th we had the entire restaurant to ourselves as it was empty. Food and service was still good though.

My husband and I were disappointed. We went for brunch on a Sunday, expecting the brunch menu that was online (or something similar). When we got there, we saw a buffet off to the side, and the host also showed us the buffet when he went to seat us. So I was already confused, there was nothing online mentioned about a buffet. So when our server came, we asked if it was just the buffet or did they have a menu, which the server confirmed just buffet. We stayed because we were already there and didnt feel like waiting elsewhere. The buffet options were mostly lunch foods, none of the breakfast brunch type foods we were wanting. We both grabbed a plate of a few items , but none of it was really what we wanted, so we ended up just picking at the one plate of food and that was it. I was able to order a latte (which wasnt on the drink menu). When we received the check, it was around $80! $40 per adult, which for us was $40 for 1 barely picked over plate a piece. I just had a hard time paying that, so I asked if they could do anything. I explained it wasnt what we wanted, there was nothing online about there being a buffet (which we tend to avoid , they just cant compare to a well executed plate/menu), and that we barely ate a plate a piece. Luckily the host took care of us and didnt charge us for the buffet, just told us to take care of our server. I had the server charge me for the latte so I could pay/leave a tip with card, saved our cash to tip the vallet team. Most of their reviews are great, and their menus online looked good, the place is beautiful too; maybe on a typical day we would have had a good experience; but they explained that they decided to do a buffet for Fathers Day as a special occasion. That they may start doing buffets on Sundays occassionaly. I dont like leaving bad reviews, it's probably generally very good, but my husband I just dont do buffets. To me the whole point of a buffet is to eat a lot for less $, knowing food quality will be lacking.

Although the quality of the food was very good, the menu was very limited and did not even include a steak entree. There was no bread served with the meal. In terms of decor, I felt that the walls were overloaded with cheap artwork rather than real oil paintings or watercolors.
Overpriced Mother’s Day brunch with terrible service. $85 per adult for a small food selection that was left out for hours. Waiter didn’t even take drink orders. Lovely space with incredible potential but terrible execution.
When I booked Goodall's kitchen for Mother's Day brunch, there was no mention of a special menu on Open Table. I looked at the menu and brunch offerings looked nice. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised to find a nice buffet... until the bill arrived. $72 a person? Seriously? The buffet was nice, but really? That didn't include drinks other than coffee and soft drinks. I would have been okay with $50, but $72?! I felt had on Mother's Day and it left me in a sour mood unlikely to return.
UT and other artwork on the walls - lovely. Service was good but when I pointed out a napkin and stray raspberry under an empty table, the staff failed to take action. The next patron had smashed raspberry on her shoes. Food tasty but small portions. Blueberry dessert was delicious.
The staff was both very accommodating and attentive.
We brought our dog and they were kind enough to pull tables together on the porch, a “hotel Ella” branded bandana for our dog, a water bowl, and a treat.
Great service, good food, and a great way to spend a few hours with family for a leisurely breakfast.
