Good Restaurant - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Why must the landlords insist on raising the rent so high that this place can't afford to stay put ?
Since 1980 they've been in business and one of the few places in the Village where you can have a conversation without yelling AND the food really is good, not to mention the friendly and helpful staff.
Sorry for the run on sentence.
It is irrelevant how good "Good" is (it is VERY VERY good) because it is closing in days, because of the typical greed of NYC landlords, who prefer the on-paper enhancement of the value of their property through the raising of rents, to providing spaces for businesses (and PEOPLE) to thrive in and pay reasonable rents that would still provide an income though that's not the same as a property value on paper, notably I suppose if that "paper" were to be a document of sale. Another real-estate bubble blowing out and ultimately up, perhaps. Not how Human Beings LIVE...
We had brunch for my birthday with our grown kids and young grandson. Our waiter could not have been friendlier or more accommodating. We enjoyed our various egg dishes and lemon ricotta pancakes very much, but were disappointed in the cheddar jalapeño grits which were blandly soft and mushy rather than gritty and cheesy. We live in the neighborhood, and will definitely return to try out the dinner menu.
Service had a bad night at Good. 2 tables seated after us were served, waiter said sorry for the delay, kitchen was slammed. A third table seated after us was served, I went to the host, he said we were next, guests served earlier had all ordered entrees that took less time. Would have preferred an honest assessment. Took 1 1/2 hours to prepare burger, chicken, and fish tacos.
The food was excellent and the service was wonderful. Our waitress was very nice and friendly. Our food was served quickly but they let us take our time eating to just sit and chat. The food was reasonably priced, I thought I got a good amount of food for what I paid.
A neighborhood gem. I only come here for weekend brunch, so I cannot speak on the other meals. My friends and I enjoyed the cocktails, fresh dining experience and the relaxed atmosphere. We didn't feel rushed. My favorite thing on the menu is the lemon ricotta pancakes, so yummy. The only disappointment was that they ran out of Geechie boy grits. Other than that, it was fantastic.
Just the two of us...this romantic little restaurant does not disappoint. It was our second trip. The first trip was for an excellent price fixed Thanksgiving dinner that was superb. This time we were just having a Saturday night out. The food and service are just right. We highly recommend.
For the "hearty" Sunday brunch appetite, I definitely recommend the Get -it -all Special. Mixed and matched the Breakfast Burrito, Cheddar Jalapeno Grits, and the Springboard cocktail...along with the bread basket, it was more than enough. Since this was our last stop before heading to LaGuardia, I napped good on the flight!
I have to thank my sis-in-law for the recommendation.
