What Insiders Are Saying
Good Measure is a great new wine bar in Atwater Village that's perfect for a low-key night out.
Had a lovely dinner at Good Measure! Everything was delicious and the ambience was relaxing. Great date spot! Excellent wine list!
Great food and wines at this Atwater neighbourhood restaurant. Not quite a hidden gem, but plenty of people don’t yet seem to know about this place, and they should!
The food and service were superb, and the wine recommendations were spot-on
Excellent experience! Food was delicious and the service outstanding. Highly recommend!
Delicious, inventive and interesting food. Great atmosphere. Great staff. A wonderful addition to Atwater Village.
Here's an excellent little find of fine dining in the Atwater Village area... great wine and perfect for foodies + hipsters.
My wife and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary at Good Measure and it was the perfect spot. We loved the wine selection and the cheese board was one of the best we had ever had. We both loved our meal and shared everything that came to the table. Our waiter even helped us find the perfect wine by letting us taste 5 different kinds before landing our our favorite. The parking here also couldn't be easier, tons of open spots behind the restaurant made for a perfect start of the night. Go check this place out, you won't be disappointed.
We had a very good meal at Good Measure, going after reading about this place twice in two different magazines in the same week. We had grilled octopus, the charcuterie, persimmon speck and burrata salad, chickpea fries, and the crispy pork rillette. All were really well prepared and delicious. In fact, we liked the crispy pork rillette and the octopus so much we ordered two more plates! I'd dare say the octopus was just about the most tender of any octopus dish I've ever eaten--and I have a lot. The char on the octopus was perfect. They have a great wine list (they don't have a license to serve spirits) and wine we had with our meal was different from ordinary offerings and quite good. Will definitely be going back here.
Outstanding restaurant to dine. Casual and elegant. Amazing wine selection. Wonderful food.
Can't wait to go back!
It was ok. Might go back on Monday night when they open a magnum – – the wine was great
Fabulous, fabulous restaurant. Delicious, fresh, creative food!! Wonderful staff - friendly, attentive, professional, knowledgeable. We’ll be bringing more friends here!
(updated review) 12.23.2018 The food and wine pairings at Good Measure are definitely among the best in the city. On our second time back to the restaurant we were fortunate to be hosted by the owner Matthew who reached out to us after a glitch in our first visit to the restaurant. Matthew directed our food choices and expertly chose the wine pairings, explaining their origins and why he paired them with each course. The shaved brussels sprouts salad --a refreshing mix of roots and vegetables accented with yellow raisins and pine nuts- was delicious. Our next course was the savory cheesy mixed mushroom risotto which when paired with the sparkling Barbolini Lambrusco...was my best bite of 2018! Finally the whole branzino-- so fresh, perfectly cooked and expertly seasoned with fennel and lemon-- an excellent version among whole fish entrees and perfectly paired with a crisp Douro. Since it was Christmas Eve-Eve and my husband's birthday, we celebrated with the Holiday bread pudding-- and as described it tasted of the season. Reminiscent of the most delicious fruitcake ( but nothing like the fruitcake some people dislike..) it was filled with persimmon, chocolate, raisin, nuts and orange zest and was served with a decadent Bourbon caramel sauce. It could not have been a better birthday dinner or better experience at a true wine bar. Matthew Kaner, the owner, takes great pride in his restaurant-- as he should. We were beyond impressed that he reached out to us to show us the true Good Measure experience. We could tell others were enjoying their evening, as well, and that the service they received was equally as attentive and warm. We look forward to coming back and bringing friends as it is a restaurant where a good food, wine, and dining experience can be expected!
When you want a low key evening out with amazing wine and even more amazing hospitality - this is the spot.
One person in our party has food allergies and sensitivities. Our server took the time to go talk to the kitchen at length and return with suggestions of what would work best for that person.
He even came back and recommended that we let the kitchen know ahead of our next visit and they’d tweak some of the preparation to accommodate the allergies. This is what brings us back to Good Measure.
Then there is the food..
There are things on the menu to start with that I hope never go away. House pickles- get your tastebuds revved up, and the chickpea fries- are comfort food you never knew you craved- punctuated by a cold tart hit of yogurt and some very good harissa. I’m ordering these, and the cauliflower salad practically before I sit down.
The fall additions to the menu- “On Tour in Italy” we tried are delicious. The Branzino was plump moist and the accompanying vegetables were cooked to perfection. The Pumpkin and Farro soup brought a smile to a vegan’s lips with its’ unexpected rustic presentation.
I’m looking forward to the next visit to try more of the seasonal options.
It’s impossible not to appreciate the personal nature of this restaurant. The wine selections are never dull, the food has a point of view and I always walk out planning my next visit.
Love this place! It's so good! The staff is friendly and informed. One of my favs.
Very low key, cool ambience. Easy going staff. The food is really good and the library wine list is extraordinary. The wine list is a treasure hunt with fair pricing on old wines. We love this place.
We sat outside on a rare rainy night, protected by an awning and warmed by a radiant heater. Service hit the right note of friendly and helpful without being intrusive. We shared a salad with peaches and speck, just wish the peaches had been peeled (still makes my tongue curl!). The standout was a whole branzino, perfectly done. Nice listing of wine by the glass and enough beers to keep my non-wine drinking companion happy. Nice neighborhood find.
Ordered the steak frites. Steak was cooked to my liking (crusted on the outside and medium + on the inside) with one caveat; it was slightly too salty for my liking. I figure that's an easy enough fix next time... and there will be a next time.
Amazing food & delicious wines! We’ll Definitely. Come bk. So happy we found this gem. Food = wow
It was a nice resturant but not super special. I liked the idea of the food better than the food itself. My polenta clashed with the lamb I ordered. My husband's steak and fries were salty. The place was not full, but at times it was hard to hear my husband talking right across the table from me. The ingredents were fresh and the meat cuts good.
Went on a quiet Tuesday evening for a friend's belated Bday. Service was very good and we enjoyed our meal.
Love this place!! The people that work there are totally kind, generous, and thorough.
We will be back.
Good Measure manages to do a couple of things excellently. While not in any way felling stuffy, the room and decor have a look and feel of elegance and comfort expressed through lighting, color palette and a quite beautiful mural. Good sound track too. The menu plies effectively between light fare and legit dinner restaurant. Dishes are creative while staying familiar. Portions are generous with quality ingredients. To effectively continue this feat, the menu will have to stay somewhat in motion since it is not large. That would keep recidivists interested. Let’s hope that can happen. This said, there is not the finesse to this cooking that elevates above the very good (which is still... very good). Wine is an emphasis at Good Measure and while staying compact, the list has something for everybody, leaning toward the progressive expansive wine world while not ignoring the traditions that got us interested in the first place. My glasses of skin-contact pinot gris and cinsault were well selected. All in all a very good restaurant that hopefully will be around for a long time
Just below average food. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. You can tell they try hard but don’t succeed
Creative, tasty food. Awesome experience. Great wine.
Chef knows what he’s doing! Seasonal ingredients cooked to perfection! Lamb chops and a Shiraz wine pairing that complimented each bite!
Really enjoyed our dinner. The service and wine selection were awesome. Would highly recommend this spot for any day of the week.
It was our first visit here, and we were impressed. A bit different than the owners other place that we go to, Augustine Wine Bar, but still great. Nice menu, and a really nice selection of unique wines. We’ll definitely be going back.
Fantastic food, great wine pairings, incredible personalized service. Perfect place for dinner or drinks with friends, perfect spot for a first or 100th date. Highly recommend.
Great food, service and good for actually talking.
Great food, service, and WINE! We will be back again and again. Thank you!
Thank you for taking care of our surprise dinner. Great food and service. We’ll definitely be back.
Great dinner / super service
This is the best restaurant on the east side! Great food and wine, amazing vibe.
the portions are ridiculously small for the price and just not that special
Absolutely amazing. Went for my boyfriend's 30th birthday and they were so attentive. They let us taste every single red wine we asked to try. The food was fabulous and they paid attention to dietary restrictions as well. Definitely would recommend.
Chef Mike is awesome. The food was inventive and absolutely tasty. It was a wonderful mix of flavors and presentation. The service was punctual and attentive. The decorum of the restaurant is a bit odd, and somehow doesn't quite match the great food--just my opinion, and not enough of a reason not to go and enjoy a wonderful meal.
Way over priced and small portions. Nice space and service but not worth it.
Space is nice and comfortable. Service was top notch without being over bearing. Food was fantastic (salmon and NY strip for entrees, good wine selection and great desserts) looking forward to coming back!
Amazing Father's Day meal with kid in tow- wine is outstanding, service is excellent. So glad we found this gem and we will be back!
The food was just okay, the wine was overpriced.
