Here many times. It is simply the best Hispanic food known to man. A cross between Mexican with lots of South American influence.
We had a party of six and five enjoyed it. My food was not good ! It was very sweet and I told the waiter and he said he was sorry . Another lady came by and asked how was everyone. I got same response of sorry. The manager/owner asked how things were and I was told not suppose to be sweet and he was sorry. Never said I will not charge for that meal or let me get you something else . I paid my check and will not be going back.
Son was in from out of town. This is his favorite Mexican restaurant. Nice place for the family to gather.
What’s the point in making a reservation when you still have to wait half hour before being seated? They could have at least comp us with an appetizer or something.
Delicious and fun as always. Love this place
Gonza’s is one of our go-to spots for great food. The ambiance is cool with great lighting and fun/irreverent artwork. We have to order a bowl of their amazing queso each time we visit. The top shelf margarita is excellent. Our favorite items are the Mexican Flag, Pastor Tacos and Cameron Tacos... order the cilantro rice. Deserts at Mexican restaurants are typically nothing special, but we dream about Gonza’s chocolate flan and Talega de Platano. The staff is friendly and owner Gonza makes everyone feel like family.
Expected ok Mexican food, was surprised with GREAT Mexican food. The place is cute and unique and LOUD, so don't try to make business deals there but super worth it! Will go again!
Would not recommend to the gluten intolerant or the gluten free crowd.
Twice I have ordered fajitas stating as gluten free request, and twice my father-in-law has ended up with flour tortillas.
This time, we had a full exchange on the matter, got flour tortillas and my father-in-law had eaten two by the time I noticed! I confirmed with the waitress, she took the tortillas away and brought the right ones, but I'm not happy this can't get gotten right the first time.
My favorite “go to”place! Always vibrant and delicious!
We frequent Gonza all the time and love it. This reservation was for a birthday and there were two items of note: 1. we had not had our waitress before and she was not the most friendly or dynamic, especially for a birthday and 2. the staff usually sings for birthdays (and the staff confirmed that they knew it was a birthday reservation as noted at time of booking) but they didn't sing :( Nonetheless, it was a fun and delicious dinner - the birthday girl was happy.
Food was stellar as always. The kitchen staff here makes the place great, no doubt. No one comes close anywhere nearby. Can be a little too loud for casual conversation, but food makes it worth talking louder than usual. Service can be spotty depending on the server (three of four dishes removed after dinner and 4th plate sat for a quite a while before we had to track down server for a "to go" box and to get the check). Biggest complaint would be how very tiny the bar area is. For a "tequila bar" - there's not much "bar" area for enjoying drinks before dinner. And between people walking back and forth from outside seating to the bathrooms and folks picking up take-out orders, it's just not that enjoyable being at the bar.
We are regulars at Gonza’s. This time we decided to ask friends to join us. What a great place for a friends date!
Good food, great margaritas that aren't watered down, cool decor, a bit noisy on the patio but you can still hear conversations ok. The only thing I would suggest is to add more vegetarian items to the menu. My Vegetariano taco was muy bueno, but I'd probably visit more often if I knew there was more of a vegetarian variety. Just something to consider.
I had their short rib tacos, as recommended by our waitress if I was looking for something flavorful and a bit spicy. They were excellent and probably not what I would have picked, but I will be sure to do so again! Their chips and chunky salsa were great, we also got the guacamole. The tacos came with a cup of chicken tortilla soup that was very good. Last but not least, I had a margarita on the rocks, no salt - it was fantastic, great sour mix.
Ganza and staff are always a top pick for Latino food!
When we come to Gonza, the owners and staff make us feel like family. For that reason, we keep coming back again and again! All of their locations are wonderful but we especially love the North Raleigh vibe. We have celebrated milestone birthdays, school achievements & everyday accomplishments at Gonza and plan to do so for a long time.
Good food. Well prepared. Eclectic environment. Not an ideal place for a quiet conversation. Great neighborhood spot. Very good value.
Always great food and service. I have been before and will go again and again and again.
Hands down one of the best and authentic Chilli Relleno.
Food was very good. Tequila menu was interesting. Service was prompt.
As usual the food was amazing. However, the service was not the best. We have never had a problem even with large groups. We have been there with 15 people before and been in and out in 45 minutes. This time was much slower and the server was just not as attentive as we are used to. I will return as I hope this is not a recurring issue.
Great service, food and atmosphere as usual, as expected! Accommodated a few extra diners handily! Thank you for the start of a great evening!
Always a festive atmosphere with great food and prompt service!
Gonza never fails to deliver. Great atmosphere and in my opinion the best Mexican cuisine in Raleigh.
Really good tasting food...would have liked more food for the $.
Gonza’s is the best Mexican in Raleigh by far. The quality of food, service and ambience never disappoint. I highly recommend it.
They offer the most consistently delicious “Mexican” food in the area. It’s good quality and a little inventive. They could up their game on the margaritas though. Jose was a great server and so courteous - he helped my elderly mother all the way out to the street.
Excellent and Always Fun! Gonza Tacos y Tequila - North Raleigh lives up to its reputation for being fun, friendly and a great place to eat for modern mexican dishes. Love the eclectic decor that livens up the place but is not overwhelming. Our waitress took a few moments to explain the different photos splashed around the walls. The service is impressive for a casual setting. We have been there enough to have different waitresses and they all have been on the mark with taking orders, drink suggestions and service. As for the food, start with a margarita along with some queso, salsa and chips to share. The tacos are a big hit and offer a great variety. The shrimp tacos and pulled pork are perfectly spiced and don't be fooled by the portions, its enough to fill you up. The cilantro rice is a nice side, although the coconut rice is my favorite with the pulled pork. Reservations are suggested on the weekends, so plan ahead or expect to wait with your bobble head. Either way, Gonza is worth the wait and a great way to start the weekend.
This is likely the best upscale Mexican food in Eastern NC. The owner is typically onsite and the quality of food and service shows. You won't be disappointed.
Loved the atmosphere in this hip-feeling taqueria with a twist. Menu was inventive and inspiring. Food was well-executed. Really fun evening!!
We had family visiting and took 7 people. We got there a little early for our reservation but were seated immediately. The food was excellent and our server was great. Overall wonderful dinner experience and our family loved the food and the decor.
Service is outstanding - very fast and friendly. Food is flavorful and fresh. Best mole sauce anywhere. Steak is delicious in every item, especially the El Platano. Soup is a must. No better Mexican/Columbian food.
Very lively restaurant. Obviously very popular. Food was delicious but unfortunately mine was lukewarm. I think it sat while they fixed my wife’s fajitas, which were pipping hot. Servers were very accommodating but I think covered too many tables at once.
Amazing. Great food. Love the owner. Makes you feel like family.
We usually are very pleased with the food here. During out
R last visit, however, although we ordered the same dishes that we ordered when we last visited, everything was extremely spicy even though it was not supposed to be or had been previously. It made our dishes not as enjoyable.
Love Gonza! Always consistently good food and drinks!
One of our favorites & has been for years!!! Great place for get together with friends for yummy food & great margaritas!!
Great as always.
