Gonza Tacos y Tequila - North Raleigh Ratings and Reviews
When we come to Gonza, the owners and staff make us feel like family. For that reason, we keep coming back again and again! All of their locations are wonderful but we especially love the North Raleigh vibe. We have celebrated milestone birthdays, school achievements & everyday accomplishments at Gonza and plan to do so for a long time.
As usual the food was amazing. However, the service was not the best. We have never had a problem even with large groups. We have been there with 15 people before and been in and out in 45 minutes. This time was much slower and the server was just not as attentive as we are used to. I will return as I hope this is not a recurring issue.
They offer the most consistently delicious “Mexican” food in the area. It’s good quality and a little inventive. They could up their game on the margaritas though. Jose was a great server and so courteous - he helped my elderly mother all the way out to the street.
Excellent and Always Fun! Gonza Tacos y Tequila - North Raleigh lives up to its reputation for being fun, friendly and a great place to eat for modern mexican dishes. Love the eclectic decor that livens up the place but is not overwhelming. Our waitress took a few moments to explain the different photos splashed around the walls. The service is impressive for a casual setting. We have been there enough to have different waitresses and they all have been on the mark with taking orders, drink suggestions and service. As for the food, start with a margarita along with some queso, salsa and chips to share. The tacos are a big hit and offer a great variety. The shrimp tacos and pulled pork are perfectly spiced and don't be fooled by the portions, its enough to fill you up. The cilantro rice is a nice side, although the coconut rice is my favorite with the pulled pork. Reservations are suggested on the weekends, so plan ahead or expect to wait with your bobble head. Either way, Gonza is worth the wait and a great way to start the weekend.
We usually are very pleased with the food here. During out
R last visit, however, although we ordered the same dishes that we ordered when we last visited, everything was extremely spicy even though it was not supposed to be or had been previously. It made our dishes not as enjoyable.
We were seated promptly, served promptly, had a great waitress who failed to introduce herself. Spouse had shrimp fajitas which he thoroughly enjoyed. I ordered the Nachos Bagachos which were incredible and enough to share - the best tinga chicken I can remember!
Gonza is a great fun place to go have a delicious affordable meal & drinks. I’ve never said; “nah, I don’t feel like going there.” I really love it & the important part is that it’s fun & lively with top notch quality & consistency with an emphasis on quality. That’s a terribly hard mix of things for restaurants to get right & in the 5 year’s I’ve been coming they’ve never missed a beat.
Kitchen was off this visit unfortunately. The chilaquiles verdes dish I ordered - highly recommended by a friend - was just not good. The chicken was cut into large chunks that needed to be cut before I could eat - isn't this supposed to be made with shredded chicken? That's what I had anticipated, but these unwieldy and unappetizing chunks ruined the dish for me. Also, the tomatillo sauce weirdly had no acidity to it and lacked flavor so, all in all, this dish was a big disappointment.
On a positive note, our waitress was awesome, the margaritas were delicious and the guacamole and salsa were amazing, as always.
