Northwest
Approachable sophisticated Pacific Northwest cuisine, simply prepared using the finest regional ingredients and served in a dining room with maritime-inspired design and sweeping views of Elliott Bay.

Goldfinch Tavern is a collaboration between Ethan Stowell and Four Seasons Hotel Seattle. Named for the state bird of Washington, the American Goldfinch.

The upscale tavern pays homage to the city’s pioneer days, when taverns catered to lumberjacks and sailors alike, providing a place for travelers and locals to both socialize and conduct business, all while enjoying drinks and food.

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely relaxed lunch on a gray and rainy day prior to visiting an exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum. I selected the lunch special: a duck confit salad that included some tasty fermented-style cabbage. It seemed Provençal so I paired it with a nice dry rose’ from Provence. My spouse ordered the salmon salad which he reported was perfectly prepared. Our server was friendly, attentive and elegant. We’ll be back.

Food and service was good but we were a part of two coming separately. Even though I told them that the other person will be coming in few minutes under my reservation, they had us both sit at the two end of the restaurant. After around 15+ minutes later, we were able to connect ourselves only to realize that the staff did not pay any attention to the guests. We wasted a lot of time just waiting and not able to complete the discussion and meeting.

While overall we enjoyed our dining experience it was not to the level we anticipated. The recommended attire was either "smart casual" or "sharp casual" - don't recall now. Most guests were dressed down from that considerably and it was a bit noisy as we sat by a window that was adjacent to the bar. The service was a bit slow and check backs were limited. We both liked our meals, but they did not approach "outstanding". We were due at our next engagement and I had to request the bill in order to make it on time. We don't get opportunities to dine out in higher class restaurants very often and I think our visit was a bit of a let down from our expectations and a bit over priced relative to that experience.

We visited on Valentines Day, looking forward to ordering from their ambitious menu. We were disappointed to be presented with a very limited, and expensive prix-fixe menu. Fortunately, our waiter suggested ordering from the happy hour menu, and we noticed that the couples around us did the same. My wife and I watch our diets and eat only salads and healthy entrees; three-course prix-fixe menus don’t appeal to us.

Goldfinch never disappoints. I tried the Cioppino, and it was excellent. My wife had the Dungeness Crab cocktail which was also outstanding. We share a bottle of Pahlmeyer Sauvignon Blanc which was a perfect complement with our meal. Our waiter, John, was outstanding as usual!

Excellent service. Less than average food. Gin martini with hardly any gin and weird lemon twist. 5 bites of cold duck served on ice cold plate resulting in lukewarm entree swimming in over sauced mashed potatoes. All this for the bargain price of $56 plus included 20% service charge and another 5% charge for underpaid servers and dishwashers. I know things are tough in Seattle, but Four Seasons can afford to suck it up and not pass through their woes to the customers.

Great meal! My wife and I loved it. That said $500+ is very pricey for an after concert meal. It is unfortunate as it simply reinforces the idea that one should not go out to dinner in Seattle anymore.

The cocktail list was very tequila and whisky heavy, and overpriced. Non-alcoholic drinks have the option to add alcohol and the one my wife had was better than my fancy manhattan. The vegan menu options were delicious and decent value. We shared burrata, bread service and crispy avocado salad (delicious). For mains, my wife had the spaghetti with smoked wild mushrooms, wine and butter which was delicious. I had the vegan pasta with Calabrian chili and tomatoes, which was delicious. Dessert was tiramisu - decent but not amazing. Service was friendly and attentive with good wine recommendations. Not a cheap date spot ($100+ pp) but I could see myself coming here once or twice a year for special occasions.

Overall the service was amazing, the drinks were top notch and the appetizers were delicious. However, I am very disappointed in the steak dinner. 3 of us at the table ordered the steak at 3 different temperatures: rare, medium rare and medium. When we received our main course, the presentation was great but all 3 steaks were cooked so poorly. It was very disappointing, they were all over-cooked and chewy. We did not expect this from a restaurant inside the four seasons. Honestly it was a bit shocking. The 4th person in our group ordered a burger, which they enjoyed and had us all wishing we had ordered the burger instead. :(

Watch out for the 20% service charge! (Of this, 65% - or 13% of the bill) goes to the servers. Hey - we get that for large groups, a mandatory service charge makes sense. But for a party of two? And then the servers only get 13% of the total? Team - just make your $35 dollar entree $42, so it's clear what we're paying. Food was good. Service was ok (had to ask the server to see if our dishes were ready - they were immediately and made us wonder if they had been sitting under a heat lamp). Setting is gorgeous.

We had a great dinner at Goldfinch this week. My wife described the chowder as "the best she has had in years"! The fries are phenomenal. The Wynn's salad is very large and nicely balanced. The king salmon is gently smoked and perfectly cooked. The wine by the glass list is more extensive than it used to be and is priced at typical Seattle levels. Excellent service, too.

We were sat at 8:40pm and waited over 20 minutes for a server. We eventually had to ask the host to receive service. We never received a dedicated server, instead we received inconsistent service from other sections. Drinks took another 20+ minutes. Food was as decent - inferior to the food from NYE 2023 but not bad. Sat adjacent the bar where overflow patrons from the eqrlier football game were standing inches from our table over the duration of the meal. Overall a regrettable NYE experience - one we will not partake in again.

Disappointing! We went last year and food was amazing but this year was terrible! Especially for the price. The crab was super salty and watery. Presentation of food was not good especially for a Four Seasons. They seemed understaffed and the staff working was struggling and seemed to not know menu. Sadly won't be back.

I had mentioned in my reservation that it was going to be my birthday. The waiter came out with a stunning dessert, on the house. Creative and playful, exotic and tasty. Service excellent, and the acoustics were at a low level, astonishing, for a Seattle restaurant. Pricey pricey pricey...a smoked Manhattan for $24. not a good value, however.

Very disappointed. We expected a festive Christmas Eve at Goldfinch Tavern since they had a special holiday menu. Our server got many things wrong in describing the meal and was not very pleasant -- I guess he knew that 20% was automatically going to him so he really didn't need or care to do this job. No effort was made to decorate or create a festive mood. The food was tasty but for $140 pp for 3 courses it did not wow us. The entire evening was a disappointment. There are better options in Seattle...

The four seasons sadly didn’t deliver on Christmas Eve. The menu was brief for $140 a plate without wine, was uninspired and woefully negligible, particularly in the amount of seafood put into the main entree bouillabaisse. We were very underwhelmed. This venue could do so much better. This is the first negative review I have written about a restaurant. I won’t return sadly. I truly wanted this restaurant to be great. We love having good restaurants in seattle!

We stopped in on a Sunday after seeing a play. I was disappointed in the menu selection for vegan/plant based preferences. The drinks were very expensive and really for no reason. The view is blah…if you like smoke stacks and cranes. This place was not for us. Very expensive and while I don’t mind spending money on fine dining, I would have rather picked another place.

Server was polite however it took over 30 minutes to bring an order of bread to the table. I assume there were staffing issues. Look forward to next visit and I anticipate service will improve.
