If you like steakhouses but prefer yours to be more old fashioned than chic, then the Golden Spur Restaurant has your number. Located right off route 66, Golden Spur Restaurant is a piece of old-world Los Angeles. Aside from the trademark cuts of meat, you can also order pasta, oysters and other forms of seafood.
The nice big booths will give you plenty of space to spread out, which makes Golden Spur Restaurant an ideal spot to relax with friends and family while enjoying excellent food and wonderful service. So if you're in the area, drop in and see why this place is such a hit.
Nothing super special but a great comfortable local spot. Food good. Service good. Prices reasonable. Visit often enough and they will know you by name.
Step back into the 1950s-1960s and enjoy the decor and food of an old roadhouse steakhouse, everything made to order. The ambiance of that era is quite delightful.
I've been here before but it's been about two years. And two years ago, I remember the food and presentation being amazing. The service was great. This last visit was different. Don't get me wrong the food was still good. Just not amazing as it was two years ago. I don't know if they had changed or just had an off night, but I was slightly disappointed. The service was still great, but the food presentation wasn't as great. I remember just ooh'ing and ahh'ing over my lobster bisque two years ago for how they presented it. And this time, it was just a bowl of soup that was too salty. I will go again some day because the previous experience was so wonderful, but this second experience has left me wanting to wait a while.
We went Feb 15th, a belated Valentine dinner. I had the filet mignon stuffed with the cheese blend. Super delicious. I would recommend this dish to everyone, and I personally will have it again and again. My honey had the rack of lamb... all I'll say is OMG, beyond good. The lamb was so very tender and juicy, but well cook and not pink (which I hate pink meat) so that is probably what I'm ordering next time. Joe, the owner, came by our table a couple of times to check up on us and to socialize. It really gave us that personal touch, made me feel special.
That sums it up... next time. There will be multiple next times. I judge a place on if I'll go back, and the Golden Spur is a place I'll go back to again and again.
Got up and left after being ignored by waiter for half an hour. Had to ask for water multiple times and when I finally got my salad it was warm and all the dressing was on the bottom. We had a reservation and we still waited 30 minutes to be seated. It was ridiculous. I've never left a restaurant before because of service, but I would never go back there again. It was the first and last time.
We had dinner on February 13th instead of the 14th, in an attempt to avoid the inevitable craziness on Valentine's Day. While the food was very good, the service was poor. I think our waiter, whom we've had in the past, and who we actually requested for the evening, was simply overwhelmed with a very full dining room.
Just the same, the food was delicious. The Shrimp Diane is TO DIE FOR!!!! And because it was also our anniversary, we were given a complimentary piece of Joe's Cheesecake - ABSOLUTELY THE BEST CHEESE CAKE I HAVE EVER EATEN!!! Not too dense, as some cheesecake can be.
The owner's brother chatted with us for a while, and encouraged us to try the newer pasta dishes on our next visit, which we will definitely do.
Had a wonderful time at Golden Spur celebrating my birthday and dad's birthday. The owner of the restaurant was so gracious and hospitable to come over to introduce himself and to wish us happy birthday!
The service was much better on this visit, but the food was a bit lacking. I ordered the almond crusted sole and when I got it, it was a dry piece of fish with dry almond slivers poured over the top of it. Not at all like what I was expecting. But once again the salad was good.
There were not enough servers for the evening. We waited a long time for our food and it came to us after it had been sitting for a while (luke warm). Our drinks(diet cokes) also watered down like they had been sitting for a while. Our water was never filled and the bread and salad was somthing you would expect from Dennys not from a Restaurant like the Golden Spur.
I have been to this restaurant before and really enjoyed the food and services. I will never come here again for New Years eve.
This is one of the nicer restaurants in the area, came for lunch and enjoyed the still up Christmas decor. I was a bit disappointed in my meal, I got the turkey club sandwich and the bacon was much too crispy it more or less "shattered" when I bit into it, and the server seemed to be dis-interested in serving me, she never brought bread to my table although I noticed every other table had a bread basket. Oh well, the house salad was really good.
We enjoy dining at The Golden Spur once or twice each year. The cost is beyond our regular budget, but the food and service is so good that we occasionally reward ourselves. This last visit was on a Saturday evening, and the house was full. We had reservations and had to wait a few minutes before our table was ready. My wife enjoyed a 12 ounce prime rib, and I had a thick, delicious pork chop in a wine reduction. Her potatoes were au grautin and mine were mashed. We also had veggies (al dente, not overcooked) and a choice of soup or salad. They have one of the best Boston Clam Chowders I've ever tasted, and I selected that. I had iced tea, and she had water. We never ran dry on the drinks, nor had to ask for a refill. Loved it.
We were here to celebrate our retirement together. It was really nice, the hostesses, the bartender & our waiter were very welcoming and courteous. We will definitely return.
From the time we ordered, it was almost an hour until our entrees came out. We had to repeatedly ask for drinks and bread. When we got our food, it was good, buy way overpriced. The acoustics were poor and the place was so loud you had to practically yell to talk to the person across the table.
Just want to share we had an absolutely wonderful time Saturday night at the Golden Spur. I had reqeuested the lounge area to eat in so we can have dinner and be in there to enjoy the evenings entertainment. We are friends with the band that played that evening. It was their first time playing there, as it was our first time eating there. Everything about the night was wonderful. The people working there were so warm & friendly, the service was awesome, and the music, along with room to dance was great! We definitely will return again to have dinner and listen to the entertainment at your restaurant. :-D
Our family truely enjoyed our Thanksgiving meal at the Golden Spur. The selection of beef, fish and of course turkey please everyone in our party. Service was prompt and the atmosphere was great. We will be going back to try out the other tempting dishes.
If you need to be in the area of the Golden Spur, it will do the trick. We felt that they did try to offer a good dining experience. The food was hot when it arrived and was generally good. Heavy on the oil and cream in the pasta. Steamed Sea Bass and Halibut were nice. My sister loved the ribs. Pepper-crusted filet and chicken Marsala was so so.
The service was very good and the food was good. We were there with another couple and wanted to be able to carry on a conversation. We were there very early, and it was quiet, which allows us to talk.
Stopped in Saturday night after not dining there for over six months and was so disappointed its doubtful that I will return. Service was very slow with absolutely no follow up attention. The staff lacked organization and were terribly inefficient. Food was ok, not good enough to overcome the lack of good service.
Arrived about 6 pm and it was not crowded and never got crowded. Probably should be a clue for a restaurant on a saturday evening!
Shortly after 8 pm a live band fired up in the adjacent bar and it was impossible to talk in the dining room.
Given the lack of good service, chaotic wait staff scene, and seeming emphasis on bar patrons vs diners I would not recommended this restaurant to friends for a nice dinner experience.
We have been coming to this restaurant for years. We live about 20 miles away, but it is always worth the drive. The food, the serving staff, the ambience -- all are great. We would highly recommend it to anyone who wants the best for a fair price.
We came to hear the band - had cocktails in the lounge but did not dine this time
From January to May 2013 the Golden Spur's menu was really a delight. We enjoyed it immensely. One dessert we thought was the best in the world was the carrot cake. In May we ate a slice and asked the chef if he would make one for our June wedding. Moist and soft, a great wedding dessert. But this past visit on the 14th, the carrot cake was not really a carrot cake. Additionally, my steak was medium well, but should have been well, my friend's rack of lamb was well, instead of medium well. What happened? I believe I heard there was a change of ownership, which would explain the chef menu changes. The service was wonderful, which was as we remembered. Not sure this explains all the empty seating on a Saturday night?
We had a birthday dinner for my 79 yr old mother it was a perfect fit. My family and I had not been there in a long time and wanted to go back and see how it was doing. Still stuck in the 70 80's really needs an up date for the time and it would be a great restaurant.
Had a table for 15 and everyone enjoyed the food and the entertainment.
We always enjoy our dinners at the Spur and Friday was no exception. Food was excellent. Our server, Mercy, was superb. Always a pleasure to dine at the Spur.
Cute Western place. Chicken was just ok. Portions were good and food was hot. Service was great.
The steak was NOT GOOD, especially for $38. The appetizers and sides were good though.
Great place to celebrate birthday dinner.
I have frequented the Golden Spur for over a decade, and it only gets better. I was worried when ownership changed a while back and it was closed for a few months of renovation. But the new owners were wise enough not to fool with a proven formula. The Spur remains at the top of my list of favorite eating establishments.
A classic restaurant with a classic appearance that belies the food, service and ambiance. It is far from a cowboy handout as the name may imply.
My date really liked the Lobster, but the Rib Eye I order was not all that good. It was undercooked and had a lot of griisel in it.
This was my 3rd visit to the GS and every time it was great.this time it was my wifes Birthday she just loves their white sea bass and the Tarter sause is to die for.Great service, good prices and great food.just cant ask for any more then that.Look forward to next time
I found this restaurant a surprisingly pleasant experience. The food was very good and the band was excellent! I would recommend it to all my friends as far as food and music go. I will definetly return!
On a scale from 1-10, I'd give this place a solid 5, nothing really above average, but nothing really below average either.
We have been patrons of the Golden Spur, on and off for 30 years. In the last year the quality of food has declined. Let me qualify this, Golden Spur had the top steak and fish dinners. Now, over priced and very poor quality. So many people we know that use to patronize the restaurant are no longer customers because of the same reasons.
Seafood platter was good. I ordered a Pacific Red Snapper dish but it was pan fried and little bit oily. I prefer grilled Red snapper rather than pan fried.
The entertainment was delightful, excellent variety of food and very friendly atmosphere.
Delicious steaks! The wine list could certainly be improved, as well as some of the pastas. One of my dining companions found her past slightly under-sauced, but otherwise tasty. A large improvement from the previous owners.
The restaurant was not open , and open table had confirmed a table for three at 2:00 p.m. sunday.
Golden Spur is a favorite for special occasions or date night. This local favorite is one of the last 'dinner houses' for a leisure dinner meal with wonder atmosphere & service. Michelle was our server & she took good care of us. Thank You!
White linen on the tables and cushy booths. Lots of main-dish meat and seafood choices on the menu. Good food, good service, and a nice ambiance. Two of our party had meat dishes, a prime rib and a steak. And three of us had various seafood dishes. All of us enjoyed our dinners.
A melodic singer-guitarist performing subtly in the background was the icing on the cake. This was a very pleasant dining experience, and we will be coming back!
