Do not miss an opportunity to dine at Golden Fleece! The chef is Greek and uses a subtle blend of different herbs and spices to change up his dishes. We ordered the trio of spreads and grilled octopus to begin and then rack of lamb, ribeyes and a lamb shank. All were generous portions and the two sides we ordered were plenty to share with nothing leftover. Truly delicious! The next day I had a bite of my husband’s ribeye that he’d brought home and I was intrigued by the flavor. It was a great steak but subtly different like I said before. The restaurant is a cool spot. The building is charming and the front room and bar are very inviting. It wasn’t busy during our visit but I imagine that bar can be a lot of fun! Parking is available at the restaurant but if need be park in the Grove Park Vanderbilt wing/garage across the street. They offer 3 hours of free parking. We went to the Inn to have a drink on a crystal clear day then dined at GF...great evening and can’t wait to take other friends and family here. Lastly I’m intrigued by the whole animal dinners they offer! Sign me up!
Great food and we got the table we requested in the first room where it’s a bit quieter. Service was excellent, too!
The ambiance is a great selling point for Golden Fleece, plus it’s a restaurant where you can have a nice conversation with your tablemates since excessive noise is not a problem as it is in many local restaurants. It has a warm, intimate feeling; the service is excellent; and, the food is well-prepared and tasty. It is a fine place for a special evening out.
Great evening. Our table of six was well taken care of. The triple dips with pita appetizer was excellent. We split many appetizers and a main course with the table and finished with great desserts.
Thank you for the kind words! We're happy to hear you enjoyed your meal and service at Golden Fleece.
Exceeded expectations. Wonderful.
Prompt welcome and seating, four of us in back room seated in corner, even though more spacious tables were plentiful.
One Pork sandwich was too “tough” to enjoy, slices of meat cut too thickly.
Service follow-up was non-existent— would have been better if more attention given.
Great Ambience, very comfortable seating, amazing drink menu and food.
Great food and friendly service staff make this place a great place for dinner
Even though the restaurant has a Greek name the inside art work and decor has nothing to do with Greece. I was expecting a wonderful Greek experience. The music was not even Greek. The Greek food was just average. Lamb shank a little tough and the chicken was not the traditional Greek style with the sauce. Service was not attentive. Asked for salt and pepper and he brought pepper then 10 minutes later brought the salt. It was not very busy. Water bottle empty and had to ask for more. The only Greek dessert was Baklava. It was my Birthday Dinner. I’m Greek and this was disappointing.
Unbelievable! What a hidden gem. If you're going to Omni Grove Park Inn, you MUST dine at Golden Fleece. They're not associated with OGPI. We only happened by the restaurant while taking a stroll of the Inn's grounds. What an incredible surprise! We walked in around lunch and asked to look at the menu. My husband was so impressed, we cancelled our reservations to Sunset Terrace and, instead, went to Golden Fleece. What a win! Must visit, you will NOT be disappointed. PS The only reason we ranked "noise, moderate" was that we were put in bar area and a saxophonist entertained. It was lovely, not at all interruptive of our conversation.
A perfectly delightful lunch with my husband! Great small plates to share over a long leisurely afternoon. Mimosas and craft cocktails for him. We’ll certainly be back!
Our dining experience here was amazing. We were visiting Asheville from Jacksonville fl and for just two days. I wanted a night out to dinner we’d remember and love every minute of. The food was excellent and authentic. The flavors were amazing. Our service was genuine and attentive while giving us the space to just enjoy the evening and ambiance. The place is tastefully decorated eclectically and very romantically. Also casual enough to not be dressed up fully.
Hidden gem on the North Side
Absolutely delicious and great atmosphere
Need to put it on your list
We had an 8:30 pm reservation we arrived at 8:00 pm and were seated immediately in the front bar room, which was very charming. Overall the restaurant décor is lovey. The hosted seated us and gave us water. It took 20 minutes for our server to greet us and ask if we wanted a beverage. Beverages were poured and waiting on the bar. I complained that it took so long for a beverage and then once our food order was in we receive everything with 15 minutes. Food was good but could have been better. I would give them another try because I know sometimes all restaurants have an off night.
My wife and I had a great evening starting with a drink and watching the sunset at the Grove Park Inn terrace then a wonderful meal at the Golden Fleece restaurant which is very close by. The food was very good- we particularly enjoyed the appetizer of several hummus and other greek spreads with toasted pita. We also enjoyed sitting outside in the beautiful patio. The greek food is excellent and wines also - we enjoyed a white wine from our favorite place - Santorini. I am surprised that the Golden Fleece is not listed in the "best" restaurants in Asheville when you google or look at Yelp for recommendations. I highly recommend it for a romantic evening!
Exceptional food. Probably the best I've had in the past few years. I don't know how to say it better than to say if you have the chance to dine here, do it. The food is amazing.
That said, the service has a ways to go. We waited a solid 5 minutes to be seated. Then waited 15 minutes to be acknowledged by our waiter. The food was served by kitchen staff so the lackluster effort by our waiter didn't effect timely delivery. And to add salt to the wound, we sat outside, by a window where we viewed two front desk hostesses doing absolutely nothing while we waited for our waiter to check to see we had silverware for our second course.
Bottom line. The food was so wonderful the horrible service almost didn't matter.
OUTSTANDING Lamb, and Sea Bass. Our server Lorie was such a sweetheart, and very efficient, and personable. Locals that will 100% be coming back for more. Shout out to the Chefs! Special Shout out to Chef George, everything was incredible. Thank You!
Outstanding food and exceptional service!
My third time here, and again for a special occasion. The octopus is amazing. The brussel sprouts again were outstanding. Sea bass, rack of lamb and risotto were individual tastes, but all great.
This was our first experience at the Golden Fleece. We have been coming to the Grove Park Inn for many years, unfortunately we never knew about the Golden Fleece. Had we known, we would allow for at least one dinner there. The service was excellent, as well as the food. We will definitely be back.
We had a delicious meal and throughly enjoyed our evening together at this fabulous restaurant! Food, service, and atmosphere were all top notch. Will definitely go again.
The room can get to noisy sound dampening should be considered
This was the second time we ate here this week. Currently living in the Northwest, but Asheville is our home. The Golden Fleece is one of our favorites. Food is delicious, service is impeccable, ambiance is delightful, and parking is easy, unlike downtown restaurants. Quickly becoming our go to fine dining.
Whether you have the rack of lamb, lamb shank, salmon, prime ribeye or, probably even, the roasted chicken (we don't do chicken when out). "Burnt" brussel sprouts are may favorite side.
We dined this past Sunday. We had a party of 6, with a 7pm reservation. We arrived early & were seated promptly. There were only a few tables occupied. The restaurant decor is very nice: rustic & cozy. The food that we were able to order was delicious. The lamb chops were outstanding. The low rating stems from the following: They were out of salmon, Caesar salad (no romaine!) Brussels sprouts, mushrooms & had only 1 chicken available. Our waiter seemed out of his element. Perhaps he was very new, but his nonchalant attitude was not helpful. Service was extremely slow. It took an uncomfortably long time to get our first round of drinks, despite the fact that there weren’t many diners at the time.
Amazing Greek food, charming decor and fabulous service! A must if you are in Asheville!
We had a wonderful experience! This was a very special celebration. The food, atmosphere, and service made the evening. We will definitely book our next special dinner here again, soon.
Lamb burger was a incredible. Octopus appetizer great. Every ingredient (side salad with the burger/dressing) was top notch.
One of Asheville's hidden gems. Phenomenal service and ambiance. Highly recommend though it is hard to find.
This is the second year that work brought me near Asheville, and the second year I decided to extend my time to visit The Golden Fleece. Kind of like taking myself out as a reward for three weeks of hard work. For me, this is that kind of hidden gem/treat yourself kinda place.... What can you ultimately say about a place except it works for you or it doesn't. This does for me.... Cloth napkins and silver without feeling stuffy.... Staff that is on their game... I told the bartender what I liked and usually had, but to surprise me... Glad I did... I never really know what to say for reviews much beyond thumbs up or down.... But when it comes to this magical little spot beside the Grove Park Inn, do yourself a favor. Check out of your life for the evening and go the the Golden Fleece. Order a surprise from the bar and plan for a great, low key night. Like me, you'll be off the radar, but more on your center.
We have been going to the Grove Park Inn for years but were unaware of this jewel. Not on the radar of Grove Park.
The entertainment made the evening! Food was average, but the service was great!
Asheville's selection of excellent fine dining restaurants is notable, but for the four of us, all Asheville residents and frequent diners at high-end restaraunts, the experience of dining at Golden Fleece left us unimpressed. Everything is a la carte, so dinner prices rise very quickly with the addition of salads and sides to the entrees, none of which were standouts. (And standouts should be standard at restaurants at this price level.) What was excellent at Golden Fleece was the friendly, very competent service provided by our young team. The restaurant's location is unique - surrounded by beautiful grounds and buildings providing opportunities for historical and cultural experiences. Maybe that's enough for some people.
We have been to Golden Fleece 4 times in the past 2 months. My go to dinner (vegan) has been the Fava Hummus with seasoned grilled pita triangles (excellent) and the Ancient Grain Salad (good the first 3 times but way too salty the fourth time). Other diners in our party seemed pleased with the meat selections with the comments made the wood grilling was good but too much butter used, especially on the side vegetables. Service is friendly but not attentive enough. We often had to ask for our server on several occasions throughout the evenings. Setting is beautiful with the bar front room a bit noisy when the music is playing. Golden Fleece could be a great restaurant......
Quaint spot tucked right behind the Omni Park Grove. A great escape from the crowded hotel scene.
My wife and I were at a business conference at Grove Park Inn and were on our own the last evening. We were looking for a quaint little place with scrumptious food. We found it at the Golden Fleece. We had great service and loved the atmosphere. What a great find.
We had old friends as house guests and needed a place for great food, service, and an atmosphere that would allow conversation. We chose "Golden Fleece" based on a number of very pleasant dinners in the past. We were given a well-paced table, great service - both the waitress and the bar manager, all followed by great food and drink. It will remain at the top of our list for dinner with friends or a date with my wife.
We had the best dining experience and were so appreciative of the food and service!
I arrived late due to a rainstorm but was accommodated at an outdoor table and shared it with two other couples who didn't have reservations. The food was very good but the service was a bit scattered. Instead of the salmon I had ordered, the served handed me a cauliflower casserole another person at our table had ordered. I requested lemon slices for the water and had to request again. My spritzer took a very long time coming. Overall I enjoyed the outdoor patio, the company and the food and would dine there again when in Asheville.
Excellent and Picturesque. Food was fantastic and service was perfect
Quaint restaurant right next to the Grove Park Inn. Lunch was absolutely wonderful. We will go again!
