The ambiance is comfortable and friendly, server was knowledgeable and gave good recommendations. The chicken was very good, the arugula and beet salad was a bit tasteless. Sadly the restaurant is closing.
Hate to see the place go!
Very disappointed by my experience for brunch on December 30. The food was great as always. But service was seriously lacking. I had made a reservation for the kitchen table for my wife’s birthday via email and phone earlier in the week. When we arrived at 11 they said they had no record of me reserving the kitchen table. They said it was taken by another party already and offered us a regular table. After we were seated and ordered drinks, we waited about 15 minutes before our drinks started arriving piecemeal. Some people didn’t receive drinks. We started to look for our waiter to find out about the rest of our drinks and placing our food order and couldn’t find him. At 11:30 someone in our party finally went to the hostess and asked for our waiter. We were told he had a family emergency and they were working on finding a replacement for our table. Now I understand that is an unfortunate and unforeseen circumstance. But we hadn’t been waited on for 20 minutes. Some of us didn’t even have drinks yet. We hadn’t ordered food. Why did WE have to go find someone so we could finally order food and get drinks. Why did it take 25 minutes for this to happen? So a lost reservation for the kitchen table and poor service on my wife’s birthday. Normally I would expect a restaurant under those circumstances to at least comp a drink on a $240 bill, but we didn’t get that courtesy either. Overall really, really disappointed in the service we received and I’ll be hesitant to come back in the future. I have also reached out to Gold Cash Gold directly on this via e-mail and have not received any response from them.
Teisha our server was amazing. Didn't feel like a date night, but the food and drinks speak for themselves. One of the BEST farm to table restaurants in Detroit. Sat at the table in the kitchen, amazing!!! Such attention from any server who was there. Fried chicken was awesome as usual. And the jerk steak was a perfect rare. Amazing dinning experience for a small, intimate restaurant with god food. Great first date place.
The only thing wrong were the portion size of the fish dish. Not enough! We left hungry
Fantastic food and service. The server was wonderful!!
The food and drinks here are fantastic, Marlowe at the bar is amazing!
This was my second time dining at Gold Cash Gold. I don't know what changed over the past 3 months, but the food was not as good as I remembered it. The staff was wonderful, as before.
Went for my birthday and it was also my parents first visit to GCG. Gave me the private table in the kitchen, which was amazing experience. The staff is always so friendly and helpful. Had a fantastic time.
As a Detroit foodie, I can say without hesitation that Gold Cash Gold is everything its supposed to be. The food is outstanding, the place is hip, the head chef, Brendon, walks through to see how the diners are doing. None of the people knew that this was the head chef checking on them. We happened to be complimenting the food as he was nearby, and our excellent waiter called him over. What happened next? Chef Brendon helped us pick the perfect desert, took our order to the back, prepared it then served it to us himself!
We eat almost exclusively top end restaurants, and meeting the head chef is not the reason for my excellent review, but he was so interested in making sure we enjoyed our meal, that it certainly is part of it. Don't hesitate, if for nothing else, go for the AMAZING food!
Chef Brendan and waitstaffer Rita were very attentive and accommodating to our group's requests. We only heard "Yes we can" or "Let me ask the chef." We plan on going back often with our friends and business associates. IBMs international medical director couldn't stop talking about the family style meal he enjoyed during his recent visit to Detroit. AARP and New York Times... your comments were spot on.
This was my third time at Gold Cash Gold. This time the food was disappointing. Flavor combinations were distinctive, but not really good. Mojo salad was not to my taste at all. Ribs were fatty (vs meaty). Love the ambiance, but next time I will push my server for more info on the dishes.
Fantastic brunch. A place I would go to again to grab breakfast, and would probably enjoy dinner at.
We loved the Fries chicken. The breading on it was amazing. I'm already recommending this restaurant to others. We will definitely be back. The staff was very friendly and accommodating as well.
Gold cash gold was golden. We had a reservation for four, and the hostess sat us in the kitchen booth. The kitchen booth is a cozy four top booth overlooking the main grill line. This created a wonderful experience for our dining delights. The bar service and wait staff was exceptional and very knowledgeable with strong, spot on, recommendations. Overall, this was a five star dining night.
Creative menu and good service. The cocktails are very good.
Inventive and tasty, good wine list, accommodating chef, nice ambiance.
The food was horrible, odd flavors. I had the burger it had some concoction of blue cheese and and some orange sauce. The quiche was fennel and celery bland and boring. The potatoes were awesome. Service was great presentation was fantastic. Of the elderberry donut was another fail. We won't ever be back. Glad we went to check your they hype and that's all it is. Stick to the basics kids you won't ever lose that way.
Mother's Day Brunch
Very creative and flavorful. We were pleasantly surprised it was so gourmet.
I picked this spot for a early dinner with a friend from out of town and it was great! Perhaps because it was early it was quite, but it was a very pleasant atmosphere in which to have a conversation. The menu is not extensive, which is OK with me but some people may find it lacking in choices. I had the chicken dish which was a little disappointing after having read reviews from other dinners. I will try another dish on my next visit.
Our server was EXCELLENT!!! Attentive without being a pest, as we spent several hours catching up and enjoying a leisurely dinnner.
I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this restaurant!
Food and service were very good! I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes good food and drinks in an atmosphere that isn't pretentious. Enjoy!!
Showed up about 5 minutes before our reservation, table wasn't ready for another 20 minutes but the hostess and another man (manager maybe?) were very accommodating. They checked in with us often and gave us two glasses of sparkling wine and a donut for free. We were impressed and it was appreciated even though we didn't mind the wait. I had the fried chicken benedict and my friend had the steak and eggs. Loved both of our choices!!! I had a lavender cocktail and she had the pickle juice Bloody Mary which were so good we had to get a second drink each! Loved everything.
We chose gold cash gold as the venue for seeing a group of friends that we are only able to catch up with a few times per year. None of us had visited the establishment before but we had heard good things. The food was mediocre, and not the cause of our discontent with the experience. Not all restaurants have great food all the time, however the service and the attitude are what caused concern. I host business dinners in top restaurants around the country and have never been rushed out of a restaurant as we were at gold cash gold. The staff was clearing plates without asking and before our guests were done. And lastly we were asked to relocate to the bar, which had no seating available because the restaurant was behind on accommodating their reservations. Maybe our experience is out of the norm, but they did not make a great first impression. I do hope that management is able to review this constructively if they were not aware of this type of rushing and treatment of patrons
wonderful place to have a Saturday brunch. Everyone was lovely and I will be returning soon :)
It was great!
Very mixed feelings about this place. Chicken 2 ways was spectacularly good, duck entre' was pretty bad - overspiced to the point you couldn't taste the duck. White asparagus soup seemed based on some unknown root vegetable - I couldn't taste the asparagus at all. It tasted OK, just not really as advertised. Pea agnolotti had hardly any flavor and was underdone (pre-al dente), with an assertively acid sauce that was too much for the mildly flavored pasta. Panzanilla salad was quite good. Service was top notch. So, come here for the chicken, and otherwise good luck.
The food is fin and very different. I loke that the menu changes frequently. Caroline is a perfect server. All shoild ne loke she is.
We very much enjoyed our brunch. I started off with the Morning Star cocktail which had grapefruit juice and pisco. Nice and refreshing drink! We shared the Steak and Eggs and the Tostada. The steak and eggs came with a tasty chimichurri sauce and nice, crispy potatoes which were the bomb! The potatoes were some of the best I've ever had. The tostada came with squash (maybe butternut) and a flavorful Peruvia ají (chilli) which we don't see too much in restaurants yet. Overall a great meal! Very casual, non-pretentious atmosphere. When back in town, I'd like to try more of the drink and menu options! Great service by Mike as well.
I had family visiting this past weekend so I decided it would be the perfect opportunity to try Gold Cash Gold. We had reservations for 6 and were seated as soon as we arrived, and we all admired the ambiance. It was the first time any of us had dined there and we were all impressed right away. Our server was prompt and brought out water and took drink orders right away. She made sure to check back frequently while we waited for a couple other members of our party to arrive. (On my quest to find the perfect Bloody Maria in Detroit, Gold Cash Gold's offering stacked up quite nicely.)
After ordering, our food arrived quickly and everything was beautifully presented. My dad and I had the quiche of the day, which was served beside a bed of arugula with a citrusy vinaigrette. The arugula was a touch on the salty side for both of us, but by no means inedible. And the quiche more than made up for it, with a light, fluffy consistency, resting on a flaky, buttery, beautiful handmade crust.
My sister ordered a breakfast sandwich on sourdough with taleggio and an over-easy egg. While I didn't taste it, it looked impeccable and the plate looked cleaner at the end of the meal than it did when it came out. My aunt and boyfriend both ordered the fried chicken benedict. Neither of them could finish the whole meal, which worked out in my favor as I got to indulge in a few bites. It was phenomenal; the homemade buttermilk biscuits were perfectly dense and buttery, and the egg yolk was the most beautiful deep orange.
The only meal that fell short was the chilaquiles my mom ordered. As a vegetarian, she didn't find a lot of options for her on the menu so she went with the chilaquiles despite not being that excited about them. When they arrived, she said that the cheese tasted a bit off and that the meal was just okay. She didn't leave completely dissatisfied, though! We all had a fresh cup of coffee after our meal, and it was the perfect last course. Will definitely be back.
Great food and ambiance
Great food and service
This was my second visit and it was great. The food, drinks, atmosphere have all taken a step up as GCG has settled into its new groove.
We all loved the experience and look forward to coming back soon.
We enjoyed our dinner but found the menu to small. Would like more choices.
First time for my friend and I eating at Gold Cash Gold. Pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed brunch here. Nice casual menu and delicious mimosas. Waiter was attentive and never made us feel rushed. Would have ended up staying longer for more mimosas but we had matinee tickets. My friend also enjoyed her meal and overall experience.
The service was excellent. The fried chicken was great. The rest of the food was quite boring, lacking any spices. The mix of flavors on another dish (with pears) was odd. We expected more from this place for the prices paid. I wouldn't make a reservation again. It wasn't a big deal.
Caroline and the entire staff made our visit special. The cream of asparagus soup might be the best soup I've ever tasted. The Honeydew Child cocktail was unique and delicious.
The food was interesting but tasty. The menu options were not what I anticipated, though I did look at the menu online first. I expected more mainstream choices but cooked with a flair. At first I wasn't sure I would be able to enjoy anything on the menu. Service was good and the atmosphere very nice.
One of our favorite Detroit " go- to's".
Love taking guests here. Always impressive.
