Goen Dining + Bar
Nice place....not crowded at all. And the food was good
Good atmosphere. Food was yummy, the appetizers alone was a meal on its own. The portion was pretty big for an appetizer, which i didn’t mind. My fav was the portobello fries! SO GOOD! by the time the main dinner entree came around we were pretty full, but we just had to order the butter fish. That too was really good, I could care less for the veggies on the plate but the fish itself was the shining star. Dessert could use work, tried the butter mochi with ice cream and that was mediocre being that everything else was on another level.
Food and service were great, outdoor dining on a beautiful day was the best part.
Everything that I wanted and more! Our server was amazing!
It was lovely! The gnocchi was amazing!
Amazing Prix Fixe menu for Valentines Day! Every meal we’ve had at Goen has exceeded our expectations, and this was no exception. Loved the special menu and value for the price. The sashimi noodle appetizer and prime rib entree were next level. Keep up the great work!
We enjoyed the food, scallops and Kalbi ribs. Service was very good, as was the ambiance. One major problem, we were one table from the entertainer, solo guitar/singer. The music wasn’t loud per se, but we had to lean over the table to hear each other. A normal conversation was not possible at our table. Next time, we arrive ‘when the music is over’ :-)
Food is great, server is attentive. Would visit again!
Food was sub-par, fried items tasted like they were cooked in old oil. Service was sloppy and disinterested. Location/ambiance is good. Drinks were decent. Would not recommend...
We were greeted warmly by the two women at the desk.
Ari was great. She suggested a table & we asked for the booth which she seated us in & could not have been nicer.
The service was lovely and it was a great experience.
I had been there for Happy Hour, but never dinner. My
friends and I really enjoyed it...We will be back again
Appetizers and drinks were good but service was very slow and noise level was very high. Not sure I will return.
easy to get to from town, ample parking. thought the restaurant's kids tasting menu was smart and creative (but my friends kids ended up not eating much if anything). burrata was recommended and was awesome. food was great. cocktails were fantastic. wish the beer list was showcased more hawaii, local beers (friend and his family were visiting from out of town). service was the perfect pace we were at for that evening, and server was great.
Excellent food and drinks, prompt service.
The service is always excellent and they have THE best Ramon on the island.
Goen have added new items to the menu. It is refreshing to have a restaurant that is constantly keeping the menu interesting. We tried the new Hamachi crudo and spicy Ahi roll; it was delicious.
Good food, convenient location. Our server seemed a bit absent at times but overall a pleasant experience.
To be fair, this is an awesome place to introduce yourself into new foods. Like how the ambiance is neutral; not too loud & not too soft. Although, bc there are not that much staff working during lunch, the service needs more improvement. When the lady took my mom and I to an outside table w/ an umbrella above it and there was a passing shower w/ strong winds so my mom told me to ask the waitress to move table. The waitress told us to move to the bar area and the waitress did not even apologize. It’s weird bc my mom’s soda was sitting in the rain for about 10 minutes. The waitress even gave that cup of soda to my mom w/ probably unsanitary watery soda from the rain but only gave me a new cup of water. The treatment to customers need to be polished.
The salads had too much balsamic vinegar. Other than that, excellent.
Crab cakes were a bit to fishy tasting
Great service with interesting food and cocktails.
It was shocking how bad our experience was. For a birthday dinner where we arranged for a sitter for our 2 year old. First we arrived to our reservation 30 minutes early, told the hostess it's okay we can wait and don't need to be seated if the server wasn't ready yet. Got arrested early but waited 25 minutes to just get water. Then another 10 for our server to take drink orders. Which she came back 3 times to have us change it since the bar didn't have mid to top shelf gin or vodka. Sashimi was served in a bowl (presentation) and want completely sliced apart. No silverware at the table, separated the pieces with our chopsticks. Crab cakes was good. For dinner, I had the huli huli chicken and my husband had the bouillabaisse. Chicken was brunt, mahi mahi was very burnt. So much so that the entire dish tastes like charcoal. On to dessert. Wasn't offered a menu, just a small square of pumpkin something for the birthday treat. The last thing was that I had a Roy's gift card that I called ahead to see if I could redeem it. They wouldn't take it and told me there was no manager on duty. I was born and raised in Kailua and was really looking forward to having a great meal at a Roy's restaurant in my childhood town. Birthday dinner was a total bust.
this was the 4th time we tried Gone since it opened .. food choice was very limited and was just okay.. seems to be more for visitors and a one time shot .. High price and low quality
The hostess mentioned my birthday as she sat us at our table. We had nothing on the table and no one came to offer us anything for 10 minutes. We saw very little of the waitress or bus help during our meal. The food was good, very asian inspired, so it might be too bitter for some folks. The menu seemed limited. The waitress never seemed to realize that it was my birthday and they did nothing for it. I am not sure if this restaurant just opened? It seemed to still be a work in progress.
Great service and fantastic food, what more could you ask for :-)
Smallish menu but great destination for town folks. A December visit, good weather. Might get uncomfortable during a hot summer day, restaurant exposed to outside.
The food was not outstanding at all. We ordered the happy hour Salmon balls, which had no salmon. You pay $5.00 for 2 balls of rice. At dinner, we ordered the beets, which did not have any taste, we didn't finish that. The sushi was regular sushi, the Bouillabaisse was just ok, it had 2 pieces of fish, 3 shrimps and 10 potatoes and very oily. The atmosphere was fine, the service was fine. Not worth my time or money to come back. I live in Hawaii and don't write reviews very often but this was worth letting others know about.
The fried California Roll was more like fried nori w/rice, very, very little to no filling. The misoyakj butterfish was good but priced too high. The deserts were ok.
Excellent service for foodie meal with crafted drinks, very good ambience considering that the outdoor seating is next to the parking lot of Whole Foods. They had a garden planter with a tall trellis next to our table so didn’t really notice the parking lot - until after dark when the auto headlights shined brightly at us. Just laugh and wave Aloha.
There is inside seating but most is covered open air seating (so no ac). Beautiful huge market umbrellas with granite bases kept us shaded and dry.
I can’t wait to return.
Goen was a solid restaurant great for a date night or special occasion. Service was stellar, as was plating and décor. Food choices looked really interesting and the entire menu sounded really delicious. Our pupus were great - roasted beets (which I usually don't like) and salmon roll were portioned well for price. Flavors were rich and well thought out. However the main - market fish - was pretty bland. It was cooked perfectly, but the portion was a little small (and our table mates had a much larger one?!). Nothing spectacular, which was a let down from the appetizers. It was the end of the night, so perhaps the kitchen was rushing - which would be our fault. Service staff was unhurried and really attentive. Perhaps a different main would be a better choice for a 5 star experience.
It is what it is, a tapas restaurant. Selection is tasty but limited. I would recommend you research the on-line menu before arriving. That will limit your disappointment.
I always love eating at Goen, it is one of our favorite places. They never disappoint. Plenty of parking
They seem short staffed. Also I went to use the restroom and the toilet wouldn’t flush.
Great food and service - casual and comfortable - great spot!
The Manager is great!
Came for Restaurant Week - our third restaurant to try Unfortunately, our worst experience. Enjoyed beet flatbread, but the braised shortribs was a cheaper cut of beef, therefore very dry without sauce. Plus polenta in our opinion needed salt.
We visited during restaurant week and tried the prix fixe menu. Totally well worth the trip! We enjoyed every bite. The staff took great care of us and were warm and welcoming. Highly recommend.
Food was good. Tuna roles were delicious. Salmon was delicious. Market catch (opa) was rather bland. Cocktails were fabulous!
Great Restaurant Week deal! The food was delicious and perfectly prepared. I love the salmon and was super excited it was on the Restaurant Week menu. The salad and flat bread were tasty. Also they had a mini halo halo and this was the perfect size and should be a regular item. I was lucky enough to try their new brownie skillet and it was delicious!! I was so full but had no choice but to finish it because it was so good.
Restaurant Week menu option was such a great deal!
Noisy! We could hear the dropping of the weights from upstairs above the dining area from the fitness center located above the restaurant. The bouillabaisse was excellent and the sesame encrusted Ahi salad was delicious. The Huli huli chicken’s vegetables were under cooked and very hard. The mushroom appetizer was tasty but a bit greasy. Not that much variety to choose from as far as main entrees.
