The menu at Gloria is fish and vegetable forward and inspired by the culture of Chef Garcia's coastal Mexican and Napa, California upbringing. The tightly edited menu favors wild, local and sustainable fish from the north Atlantic; the restaurant works closely with trusted purveyors like Greenpoint Fish to source flavorful and responsible varieties of seafood such as fluke, tilefish, squid, bluefish and black bass. Building close relationships with purveyors and fishermen is paramount to their process and allows them to feature the best options on offer.
What happened to this restaurant?! It used to be great and it's a disaster now--waiter was oblivious to our table, skate was inedible, white wine warm. I've never left no tip in my life--I did here
service slow , awkward and supercilious. Staff needs to get their act together. Space is small. Food, when it came, was delicous.
A real gem. We dined pre-theater, so we were concerned about making a 7 pm show when the restaurant opened at 5:30. It was not a problem. We were seated promptly at 5:30 at the best table. Usually, you are led to a less desirable table and then have to ask for a good one. Not here. We informed the staff that we had a 7 pm show and ordered apps and main course together. It was paced out but ready when we wanted it.
The food was excellent. We had the crab and the hamachi appetizers. They were delicious and a nice size. For the main dish we had the monkfish. It was so flavorful. We didn’t have dessert as we had a bit of a walk to our theater. I will definitely be returning but when I have more time to savor the dining experience.
Food was good, not great. Whole sea bass on the dry side. Delicata squash appetizer and side of beans were really tasty.
Delicious!!! Everything we order was fabulous. The seafood was fresh and the sauces were complex. The cocktails and wine were perfect
I come to NYC twice a year and love the restaurant experiences and there are so many to choose from. I would definitely do a repeat at Gloria's. Everything was delicious, beautifully presented and there was no pretension.
Amazing food great ambience 10/10 service was great too
What a find! Small, cozy, fantastic food and service. The crab and the mishrooms were to die for and I find myself thinking of that meal!
Service was weird and not very welcoming
Cool vibe, kind of informal but enthusiastic service, some good wine choices, loved the tartare and octopus. Would go back soon.
Outstanding and underrated destination for some of the best seafood dishes in New York.
Simply splendid! Freshest and most creative seafood dishes I have enjoyed in a long time.
Love love love this place, as always. Fantastic food and attentive service. Always easy to get a reservation and well worth the price.
Exceptional food and friendly, genuine service. We shared main courses and sides - each dish was excellent - as good or better than many higher priced restaurants.
Unique preparations perfectly executed! Octopus was perfectly cooked, the crab dish was light and sweet, and the monkfish could be the best i ever had! Service was timely and professional, and we had a lovely evening in this low-key restaurant- lively, but thankfully not a "scene."
Attractive innovative food
Crisp attractive atmosphere- not cozy
Strange wait service
We had a great experience a Gloria. Food was fabulous: we had the whole bass it was grilled to perfection.
The music was a little intrusive, would be great to tune it down a bit
Fabulous restaurant- fish entee’s only!
Food was superb. Overall, excellent and will go back.
For fish, you must come here! A treasure to have this level of cooking in the neighborhood. Ambience, however, is a little cold; no one greeted my friend or offered to take her coat, no one did the same for the next two groups of two that came in... though the “greeter” was standing right there at the end of the bar. My feeling is that the staff needs to remember to make people feel very warm and welcomed, like they’ve come to your house for dinner. After all, local diners repeat business can make or break you.
this is the second time we have been to Gloria. The food is light and extremely creative.
Food was delicious. Service could be improved. Very curt and not very personal.
Gloria is one of those restaurants that you want to keep to yourself. A gem!
Loved this place - great vibe, staff. excellent food and super interesting wines!
This all fish restaurant presents inventive and mouthwatering seafood. I would highly recommend it.
Amazing experience. Gloria always exceeds expectations. Easily the best seafood in Manhattan topped with amazing service!
The menu was limited and very expensive- I would not go back and this was the opinion of all 5 of uf in our group
Overall was good, food interesting. Not sure I would go again or recommend it unless you are interested in creations based on seafood
A bad experience overall. The noise level amazed me - I have never been able to really not hear my dining partner. The food was imaginative but cold and the wait staff would disappear for long periods. Which was tough in such a small place. One of the owners was entranced by two women who might have been critics and ignored the rest of the room. And very expensive.
Extremely loud. Slow and apathetic service. Great appetizers, but dry fish and minute portion for entree.
Food is outstanding, service is good. I just wish they would dim the lights a little more during evening hours and maybe rely more on candles as opposed to harsh overhead track lighting. It's like eating great fish in a fluorescent fish tank.
We have been to Gloria several times. The food and beverages are amazing. Of particular note are the cornbread, the beans (they are really good), and the panna cotta. You also cannot go wrong with the crudo or the octopus. Go before everyone finds out about the place!
Small restaurant, big flavors. The fish is impeccable and beautifully prepared. The sauces are creative and full of flavor. It is a limited menu and no gluten, not even in the desserts. I loved the silverware, each piece different. The restaurant is minimalist and every thing there is carefully thought out. Plus, you can have a conversation. It is quiet, lovely and the food is amazing. I can't wait to go back.
It was perfect. Love the place
Gloria is a well needed addition to NYC restaurants. Seafood is extremely fresh, menu has use of unique market ingredients, and everything is wonderfully balanced. The service staff are professional with also being warm/friendly. Highly recommended!
Gloria is a nice small restaurant that has some great food options. It's best qualities are its noise cancelling panels which keeps the restaurant at a nice volume level and it's location--it's very close to the theater district which makes it a good pre-theater option. The service was definitely sub-par though; it wasn't clear what the waitstaff was going for in terms of how they wanted to deliver service but no one was particularly warm or friendly. We had a few fish dishes and none were out of the park as you'd expect for a restaurant that focuses on seafood.
Love this place. Perfectly prepared fish with no jacket required!
Food that is both beautiful AND delicious. We tried three new restaurants for the weekend in NYC and this was by far our favorite. I have already recommended it, and we will go back! The menu is totally fish oriented, but everyone loved their dishes. And the amount of food was just right for everyone in our party.
The fish was dry and service was poor and for those prices the quality was not good.
The decor is beautiful and the food is sophisticated and delicious. It is a no-non sense type of place. The menu is small with no frills and I love that. The one issue with Gloria is that the service is not great, the servers (managers) are not attentive and make you feel unwelcomed as a guest, almost like they are doing you a favor by letting you done at their restaurant. I hope the service improves because this restaurant has a lot of potential and great food.
