Gjelina is a restaurant that serves locally-sourced, produce-forward food with menus guided by conversations and long-standing relationships with farmers, local ranchers, fishermen, and co-ops. Our first location Gjelina LA in Venice Beach opened in 2008 becoming a staple in the local community. We are currently open for lunch, brunch, and dinner services.

It is really annoying to have a reservation for 6 and have to wait to be seated when 4 of you are there. Gjelina does not have a bar area where you can comfortably stand. The restaurant was empty when we arrived for a 5:45 reservation, and I told them we had a 7:30 curtain, so we were not going to be hanging around beyond our allotted time, but they would not seat us until the other 2 arrived, which was about 15 minutes. We won't be back.

Lamb burger is prepared way too rare and you aren't allowed to ask for anything above medium rare as they have a no modification policy. We ordered about 10 dishes and the only one that stood out were the sweet potatoes. We were very excited for pizzas which were also a disappointment as the mushrooms were no seasoned and the crust was too thin to hold the mushrooms so it fell apart. Other dishes were just okay. Coffee at end of meal was delicious however.

Being seated in the first/front room means it's quite loud (no soft surfaces to absorb sound, although that's probably the best for to keep walls/ceilings sanitary!) but the reason for the low "ambience" rating is equally if not more so for the strong draft each time someone opens the front door. The curtain to protect against that was not closed so...? If you're seated at the bar or a back area table I think it'll be fine. The service is friendly and the FOOD IS EXCELLENT.

The food here is delicious and creative, a wide variety of seasonal, plant-forward pastas, pizzas, entrees and veggie sides. We had a delicious meal. My only issue was the noise level! Great for large groups, but maybe not first choice for a romantic, intimate meal.

Had high hopes for this place. We were big fans of the California original restaurant. Got the sunchokes as appetizers, amazing as ever. For our mains, we got the Pappardelle and the Wagyu steak. The pasta was really meh --kind of tasteless. The small piece of Wagyu steak for over $50 was chewy as hell. Add to make the whole experience even worse, the waitress never checked in on us once. Not a great dining experience.

Our waitress was fantastic! She was engaging and even recommended a bakery to go to after we finished. We were too full from the amazing food but it was so thoughtful. Also the food? Outstanding.

Excellent food. Not allowing any removals or substitutions is a bit ridiculous at the price point. I wouldn't go back just for that reason. Food allergies or other restrictions are not respected in addition to just personal preference.

High expectations. But food average. Service kind. Noise levels - Outrageous. The worst I’ve experienced in some 30 years in NYC. If you can’t hear your fellow guests, and the food is average, what’s the point of going to this place?
