Giuseppe & Sons
Food was very good. Service was very professional.
Perfect restaurant — food is excellent and love the ambiance. We enjoyed baked artichoke and barruta for appetizer. Lasagna and spaghetti with blue crab meat was excellent. Looking to a return visit.
One of the best all around dinners we have had in a while. Will deffinently be back
(+)Great atmosphere. Very good pasta. Staff very friendly
(-)Too dark. Someone should great people upstairs and send you down. Table small. Dessert was good but not on par with food
Hostess cold and aloof. Service forgetful and inattentive: glass of wine took forever to come out; didn't appear until after appetizers--something about bartender inadvertently (almost?) opening the wrong bottle. Whatever. At least acknowledge it's taking a while and apologize proactively. or bring me something else while I wait. Want my wine in hand before ordering food, but it certainly shouldn't take so long after ordering that the appetizers come out first--that's completely unacceptable. Strange introduction from server who gave us his name and said he'd be taking care of us and then paused and I'm not sure if he expected us to say something or not, but it was incredibly awkward. How about ask us a question, like if we'd like to order a drink? After waiting a while for wine, server misquoted what I'd ordered, referring to it as a Chianti, which it wasn't, and there was confusion. Server recommended the prosciutto di Parma and said it was imported from Sicily. Um, Parma's not in Sicily, so which is it? Ordered the scungilli salad but were instead brought the green salad. At that point we didn't feel like picking that battle so we stuck with the green. It's supposed to come with a champagne vinaigrette, but it tasted of nothing more than water (residual from washing?). Octopus appetizer lacking in flavor; seeing as we thought it needed some acid, maybe they forgot the preserved lemon it was supposed to be prepared with? Spaghetti and crab was disappointing: barely any crab meat in the pasta, with a mostly empty crab shell plunked on top and no way to handle it in any case (nutcrackers arrived later). Milanese pounded way too thin and not much flavor--needed salt. At least 3 times we were brought food for another table. Don't they have table numbers? Also, kept having to take extra plates off the table next to ours. Really a complete amateur operation. On a positive note, the veal cheeks were excellent: tender and well-seasoned. Boar Bolognese was also very good.
Excellent experience. Love the atmosphere. Food is incredible. We enjoyed the chef’s tasting and were able to sample many different menu items. So much flavor and many varying options without being a large menu. We’ll be back!
It is very dark in the restaurant. Make sure you use your phone lighting to read the menu.
Food was great, and reasonably priced. Service was a bit slow. We had to ask for some things a few times. But we would go back.
The food was very good. Service was good. We were seated at a small table in a cramped corner of the downstairs. We may as well have been dining with the booth next to us since the seating was so close to one another. Server did her best but as appeared to have a lot of responsibility with the amount of tables she was covering. I would recommend based on meal and value, likely more enjoyable at another section of the restaurant.
Went to the restaurant for dinner with some friends and overall had a very good experience. The chicken parm, cannolis, & cocktails were stellar, the shrimp scampi app was good, and the wild boar bolognese & linguine with clams (white sauce) were okay, although I’ll note I probably wouldn’t order them again. It’s a cool spot, located in the basement. It’s big and you don’t feel too close to other tables as is the case at some other comparable restaurants. Our table itself was small for 3 people, but we made it work and it didn’t take away from our experience. Be prepared for a dimly lit space with moderate noise level and a frank sintara-esque soundtrack. The unique space and ambiance, solid food & above average cocktails made for a lovely evening and I would recommend this spot for anyone looking for an elevated dining experience which brings classic Italian food into a contemporary setting.
Very vibriant nice place, full of young with good ambiance.
Good for couple of drinks and chat with friends.
Food was awesome
Good place, great food. Had a little snafu with some of our order but they quickly corrected and went above beyond. Would go again!
Great atmosphere... Highly recommend Shrimp Scampi appetizer... Sea Bass... Wild Boar Bolognese 💥💥
The last two times I went to the restaurant I had the same problem - very long wait (30-45 minutes) between the first course and the second course. in both cases the server brought out dishes we didn't order to try make us happy. as a result we had a ridiculous amount of food, which was wasted. if they want to show contrition, take an entre off the bill, or give us the first course for free. more food at the wrong time just made it worse. not sure what the problem in the kitchen is but this happened twice in a row, two weeks apart.
Everything was excellent
The food was phenomenal (I haven’t had a cannoli like that in years—and I’ve been trying many out here in the burbs to find the same kind I had growing up). Our server was helpful, funny, and extremely patient with our questions and special dietary needs. I’d go back again in a heartbeat!
Ambiance was perfect, food was delicious. Despite one little issue, the staff took care of it professionally and promptly!! Would definitely go back!
Fourth time here and it continues to be a great spot. Excellent service, food, and ambiance.
Booked Dinner for mothers day. My mom loves Italian American food. Was a little bit worried after reading Craig Labans' review, but our dinner was outstanding. Lauren the server was great. Loved pretty much every dish we ordered. Thought the seafood salad was the best I ever had. It was way better than the seafood salad I had at Rao's in Vegas. Linguine w/ white calm sauce was also great. Usually when you get whole clams with this dish they are overcooked & rubbery. These where as tender as could be. Also portion size was large for the price. Perfect vibe & ambiance.
The food was fine but overall was not worth it. We made a reservation and still had to wait over 30 minutes to be seated. There was no room at the bar, no chairs, and no service staff checking in on us so we were pretty much just awkwardly standing in the front of the restaurant. After we were seated it took another 30 minutes for the waiter to even take our drink order. So even though we had a reservation it took us over an hour to even get a drink. The staff seemed rushed and put out by the customers and it just was not a pleasant dining experience. The food was okay but definitely not worth it. I will definitely not be going back.
I would recommend this restaurant because the atmosphere was beautiful and most of the entrees were very good. However the waiter and the assistant waitress were horrible, although pleasant and cheerful. We ordered a bottle of wine and ice teas unsweetened. We had to ask for it 3 times. We had already eaten two appetizers before it was served. I sipped what was supposed to be an ice tea and it was an alcoholic beverage most likely a Coke and bourbon. They took our bottle of wine away after it was only half full. After fifteen minutes when they came to check on us, we asked about the wine. The waitress said OH it is over there on a serving table across the room. Non of the above, prompted them to apologize. They have kitchen help serve the food instead of the waitress or Waiter. We watched the large party across from us try to decipher with the server who got which entrée. This should not happen. The main waiter must be present to avoid this disaster.
It is a shame because the food is above average with a fantastic Red Gravy atmosphere. I truly believe they will work to improve the service. I would give it another try. Fantastic Meatballs. Awesome Scungilli Salad and much more.
Great experience and great food. Some of the tables are too small.
We went to Giuseppe & Son's for my birthday and I have to say it was such a wonderful experience. The restaurant is beautiful inside and you almost feel like your in a secret hideaway. The menu is small however they had all of my favorites. The chicken Parm was so tender and hands down the best I have ever had. The gnocchi was delicious but the sauce was the highlight of the platter. Our server I so wish we had taken her name was so friendly and very attentive. We will definitely be back soon.
Several mistakes on order. One dish we had to send back. Good concept execution needs work and wait staff needs further training
You would get more authentic and tastier Italian food at a pizza place in South Philly or NJ and spend a fraction of the price they charged. Better off spending the money to eat at Del Friscos.
It was a great spot but we waited over 45 minutes to be seated. Food was average
Loved eating down in the cellar. Food was very good. I highly recommend it if you don’t mind the noise.
I hate to write a bad review because the atmosphere in this restaurant is amazing. It is super cozy and romantic. I was really excited to try this place because I LOVE Sampan. Unfortunatley the food was not good at all. My boyfriend and I had a calamari appetizer (very salty), a caesar salad, the swordfish dinner (very dry and salty), and the crabs and spaghetti (he was not a fan). I know the restaurant is going for an old school south philly vibe for the food but I was very disappointed. It has great potential, but the food needs an upgrade, especially for the price. As a couple, our check was $175 after tip. To be disappointed when paying that much is such a shame!
Amazing service and even better food. What a great place. And the chefs tasting menu was so good. Definitely recommend.
Thought the concept was ok, but pacing of food serving was off timing, and no space on a tiny round table for two.
Actually broke a plate that slid off because of crowding.
The food was BLAND with little to no flavor highlights.
Have eaten at other Schulson restaurants and this doesn’t live up to his other concepts and execution.
Sent our entree back to finish our food still on the table, and came back dried out probably from sitting under a heat lamp instead of a fresh plate.
I really enjoyed the look and feel of the place. Service was subpar. The food was ok I expected a lot more from the reviews that I have read.
I had a memorable birthday dinner with friends here and we each liked our entree except there was too much salt in all the food.
It was a bad night for the restaurant. I went NYE and everything was amazing. This time, it was awful - super slow service, inattentive servers, lukewarm food and poor management. I brought out of town guests and apologized the entire dinner.
Like you stepped into your Nonnas kitchen. Food is excellent. Love the decor/ambiance!
Y’all. My husband and I travel all the time and always look for a good local restaurant to try. This was one of the best we have ever been to. In America or otherwise. The service was impeccable (Morgan, I believe)) and the manager (Steven) brought us champagne for our anniversary. Very nice touch. They even brought us cannolis as well at the end of our meal. I am not a cannoli person but I would go back just for those!
Our meal was to die for. We highly recommend everything we had. Shrimp scampi, Caesar salad, lobster ravioli and Sunday gravy.
PLEASE GO TO THIS RESTAURANT.
It was our first visit and the four of us did the tasting menu. We loved every course! This is a great place and a good value for center city!
Another great experience.
My favorite spot
