About Girl & the Goat
Girl & the Goat opened in 2010 with the goal of serving a family style menu of tasty, bold flavored foods in a fun and lively setting. To enhance the experience we offer a selection of wines from around the world with a focus on small producers, a rotating list of craft beers, and a list of fun cocktails created by our bartenders.
Located at 809 W Randolph, Girl & the Goat was one of the first establishments in the Randolph Restaurant Corridor. We offer a variety of seating choices, including a comfortable lounge, bar seats, standard table seating, and four seats close enough to the kitchen line that you might be asked to help. Girl & the Goat accepts reservations but always welcomes walk-ins, nomads, adventurers, and those of you who don’t like to plan.

Special Events & Promotions:
The Underground Goat, our 18 person private dining room, is not your typical private dining space and the name encapsulates exactly what you're looking forward to. Located under the main dining room, you and your guests will be lead downstairs, through the restaurant and into the "staff only" halls of the Goat. The room itself echoes the casual, rustic atmosphere of the main dining room and is host to the restaurant's wine and liquor stock - don't be surprised if you see the hardworking bar staff sneak in a few times to keep things rolling upstairs. Chef Stephanie Izard will design a family-style menu for you (dietary restrictions will not be ignored) and our beverage director will recommend wine, beer and/or a signature cocktail to match what Stephanie comes up with.

Girl & the Goat Ratings and Reviews
I had been looking forward to visiting Girl & the Goat for months since moving to Chicago, and I was quite honestly disappointed by the food. My friend and I ordered goat empanadas, grilled baby octopus, escargot raviolis and the pig's face. The pig's face was delicious, but everything else was average. Given the price point of the restaurant and the fact that we had to take an 11:45pm reservation in order to get in made the mediocre food even more disappointing. It's possible we didn't order correctly, but the octopus was super chewy, the escargot raviolis barely had any filling (aka no escargot flavor came through for me, though the broth was delicious), and the goat empanadas were just nothing special. I don't usually write reviews like this, but given all the hype for this restaurant, felt this was worth noting. The bill was also very high for the amount of food/drinks that we got.
This place is absolutely amazing and is my new favorite restaurant. We got a bottle of red, green beans, scallops, mr. Potato bread, bocatini, and goat belly. I️t was all incredible, green beans and scallops especially. We were joking that we could eat the green beans for the entire meal. Our waitress was amazing and helped us navigate the menu and even gave us cauliflower & Carmel dessert on the House! Overall incredible experience and will definitely be back!
We sat at the table at the kitchen was it was an amazing experience. We were able to speak with the chefs and help select their favorites. All of the food was prepared To perfection and the presentation was beautiful as well. We tried so many dishes and highly recommend the cauliflower, green beans and goat head.
I have never written a review before, I downloaded the "Yelp" app JUST to get my experience across: I am absolutely and utterly disappointed. I had this reservation for over 2 month, totally excited about this famous experience.
While, disclaimer: the food was VERY good... I walked out SO dumbfounded by my service (or lack thereof), I immediately informed my family/friends I will certainly never be back and feel totally ripped off. Again, after placing this rez two months ago--tonight, my boyfriend and I were seated at a table that was essentially in the kitchen. Beware! We both wished we would've spoken up but felt too bad making a fuss. This table was an extension of essentially the area where waiters put in their orders--not more than 1 foot from the chefs and stoves. It was so loud and so unbelievably hot we were both sweating by the end of the meal. And, couldn't hear each other for the life of us.
I sent my drink back because it was not what I ordered and received an eye roll from our waiter, who had not been to our table more than twice before this (... keep in mind, our meal was finished. Twice in about one hour.)
I waited so long for my Girl & The Goat experience and truthfully, I think our waiter forgot about us at this "makeshift" table. I couldn't believe they would seat someone there (and we are not picky), especially because we were not walk-ins! Will be most certainly telling more people about our terrible experience. I'm infuriated and disappointed. Money wasted on a hot, loud, ill-served time... completely clouding good food.
From the service to food to the ambiance. It was what I expected and more.
Our server explain everything and everyone who dropped food explained the dish.
We had the escargot ravioli, broccoli (the smoked Blu is to to die for) diver scallops, (I could have eaten just that all night), the sauce was amazing, goat belly with lobster and crab, and the pork shank another amazing dish. Then dessert...Milk Stout
I have been wanting to come to this restaurant since Stephanie Izzard won "Top Chef" and she opened this restaurant in Chicago. The first few years it was a year wait. This time it was for a very special birthday for a dear friend and the 3 months seemed short. It was worth every penny and more!
We were in Chicago for a few days and wanted to see this American Restaurant in Chicago.. People talked on line about fabulous food and excellent service, a unique eatery with a celebrity chef, Stephanie Izard , so we booked well in advance to enjoy a lovely evening.
We had a great time, great food and the service excellent.
It is a vibrant place where we were told that even our PM had a good dinner about a year ago or so.
This will sound like a hyperbole, but honestly one of the best meals I've ever had. We tried six dishes, all of which were amazing. The chef has done a wonderful job coming up with interesting dishes that you can't stop eating. Our server (Devon) was informative about all the items (both wine and food) and a genuinely lovely person - it felt like a friend was introducing us to new, exciting food.
Creative combinations with seasonal ingredients, but the food is always way too salty. The outdoor seating is nice in the summer, but the noise inside forces one to yell across the table to hold a conversation. We’ve been several times and have always experienced these same negatives, so we probably won’t be back.
