About Girl & the Goat

Girl & the Goat opened in 2010 with the goal of serving a family style menu of tasty, bold flavored foods in a fun and lively setting. To enhance the experience we offer a selection of wines from around the world with a focus on small producers, a rotating list of craft beers, and a list of fun cocktails created by our bartenders.

Located at 809 W Randolph, Girl & the Goat was one of the first establishments in the Randolph Restaurant Corridor. We offer a variety of seating choices, including a comfortable lounge, bar seats, standard table seating, and four seats close enough to the kitchen line that you might be asked to help. Girl & the Goat accepts reservations but always welcomes walk-ins, nomads, adventurers, and those of you who don’t like to plan.

Located under the main dining room, you and your guests will be lead downstairs, through the restaurant and into the "staff only" halls of the Goat. The room itself echoes the casual, rustic atmosphere of the main dining room and is host to the restaurant's wine and liquor stock - don't be surprised if you see the hardworking bar staff sneak in a few times to keep things rolling upstairs. Chef Stephanie Izard will design a family-style menu for you (dietary restrictions will not be ignored) and our beverage director will recommend wine, beer and/or a signature cocktail to match what Stephanie comes up with.

We had a wonderful experience at Girl & The Goat-- The restaurant was packed in a lively way but we were still seated almost immediately with our reservation. The service was fantastic, the food was incredible and the scene was lively and fun. Ordered 9 dishes for 8 people plus dessert which was way too much food but totally worth it!

We were visiting from out of town and I’m so glad I made a reservation ahead of time to visit.
The food and cocktails were delicious. The service was attentive and the atmosphere was great.

We had the goat empanadas, goat liver mousse, escargot ravioli and green beans. Everything was so good. Best green beans we have ever had!
The sweet potato cake for dessert was also delicious.

Definitely worth a visit! We will be back when we’re in Chicago again.

Food w interesting flavors and creative combinations of ingredients and spices. Best dish: goat belly. Will try goat neck next time. Green beans and broccoli great. Everything worth trying, liked, didn't love. A spot to definitely see and be seen. Tables too close together , making conversation difficult, ESP if table next to you loud as was w our experience: very annoying faux intellectual next to us carrying monologue about political "polarization" throughout dinner. Talking a lot without saying much, repetitive use of 1-2 big vocabulary words to make himself seem smart. Was very annoying.

WoW!! This place resembles and delivers food which is so amazing on the palate that you would want more. We started with the beet salad which was good. Every plate is to share so we ordered more and then more. Second option was confit goat belly, meat was crunchy on the outside and soft within & just melted in the mouth. While we were waiting for goat loin, we received cauliflower as complements from the restaurant. We had never tasted cauliflower as good as what we got. Goat loin was perfect blend of meat, eggplant and yogurt. Desert of sticky yummy toffee pudding was just a perfect finish to an amazing dinner. Would come back again as difficult to find such flavorful food often.

This eclectic gem was a wonderful foodie experience for us! Absolutely would recommend it. The duck tongues and goat belly dishes were phenomenal and the green beans were the best I've had in my lifetime. The gluten free bread was amazing!!! And lots of the menu is easily made gluten free. The only complaint: too loud and pretty tight spaces. But still worth it!

Girl and the Goat was an AMAZING experience!! I was in Chicago on business and made a reservation a head of time. We were three meat eaters with a vegetarian and sharing plates still worked perfectly! LOVED everything about this restaurant, food, service, ambiance were all incredible. Now our third visit to Girl and the Goat and it never disappoints. Green beans are still the best thing on the menu. Couldn't have been happier. Seated promptly. Great service.

I went in with high expectations. Made last minute booking for my friend's birthday celebration via open table and got one at 11:30pm on Dec 2. All 3 of us were completely disappointed with the food. The roasted cauliflower was lame. The crudo was ok and what happened to the pork belly there? The duck tongue, we can't even finish. Bill came up at around 150USD, wouldn't mind that much amount of money spent if everything is good but seriously since we didn't like anything, we left with unfinished food and left hungry. I was a fan of Chef Izard just watching her from the tv shows but the food in this restaurant was a complete let down. I'm not returning and clearly not recommending to my friends either. Awful experience. One of the servers was very rude when I asked if there's anything they can offer for my friend celebrating her birthday.

Wanted to check this place out for some time now and happened to find a reservation available when I would be in Chicago - so I snatched it up and it definitely lived up to my expectations!! Creative and flavorful menu. Simply put, in my opinion, Girl & the Goat lives up to the hype.

Our experience at Girl & the Goat was a very nice. Delicious food; all small plates. My husband and I ordered three appetizers and two small plate entrees, and we were stuffed by the end! Each dish had delicious layering of flavors, with fresh ingredients. Our server was extremely helpful, asked about allergies, and when notified of a milk intolerance, she took a Sharpy to the menu and outlined everything with dairy, and what could and could not be removed. Very helpful! The music was a little loud with the size of the restaurant, but very nice atmosphere otherwise! Would go again!

Delicious as always! I'll never stop finding excuses to come here! The food is remarkable and it's a fun dinner. They pace the food out perfectly so you never have too many things on the table at one time but you also don't have gaps between plates.

The food here is served tapas style ala small portions to share. We had an appetizer of warm marinated olives and fall-cacia bread, both outstanding. We also enjoyed the sea bass, scallops and escargot ravioli with a nice Vouvray wine. All excellent and served very quickly. Waiters were very attentive and answered all of our questions. We also had a cheese dessert and vanilla malt ice cream (served with two lit candles for our anniversary).

This sounds like a lot of food but the portions are just right and we left feeling not too full and not hungry. Reservations took a long while to get -- early seating is the way to go to get in. We chose a reservation at 4:45 and were seated immediately. By 6:00 p.m., the place was full. Really a fine restaurant on the near north side worth a visit.

Great blends of spice and flavors. Fun atmosphere, and beautiful holiday lights. We ordered 4 small plates to share between 2 women. It depends on your appetite, I guess, but we thought we could’ve ordered 3 instead of 4.

This place was amazing. I'd heard many good things prior to going, and it didn't disappoint one bit. I went with my partner for our anniversary. We arrived right at our reservation time and were seated within 90 seconds of giving our reservation name. The waiter was very friendly and had a strong understanding of the menu. He advised us on portion size, and let us know we should each order two things for sharing to get the right amount of food. He also told us to put in the entire order at once, which was perfect advice. They brought out each dish quickly, giving us just a few minutes or so between each one. Our seat was the chef's table, which was pretty fun since we could watch as many of the desserts and other dishes were prepared. One of the chefs focusing on desserts even gave us a free one to go with the two we ordered. Everything was delicious. Pricing is sort of expensive, but not terribly so if you're using this as an opportunity for a special occasion. I would definitely do another romantic dinner here in the future. The cost was well worth it.

Sat at the bar, service/bartender was odd. Could have been friendlier. Poorly timed suggestions. Said we were “living a carb heavy lifestyle” based on our order so we should reconsider He bruschetta since we ordered the potato bread as well (unnecessary/slightly judgmental) - but when we said the bruschetta was one of the items we wanted the most, he said “well, the potato bread should be with you shortly” and didn’t offer to cancel it.
