About Girl & the Goat
Girl & the Goat opened in 2010 with the goal of serving a family style menu of tasty, bold flavored foods in a fun and lively setting. To enhance the experience we offer a selection of wines from around the world with a focus on small producers, a rotating list of craft beers, and a list of fun cocktails created by our bartenders.
Located at 809 W Randolph, Girl & the Goat was one of the first establishments in the Randolph Restaurant Corridor. We offer a variety of seating choices, including a comfortable lounge, bar seats, standard table seating, and four seats close enough to the kitchen line that you might be asked to help. Girl & the Goat accepts reservations but always welcomes walk-ins, nomads, adventurers, and those of you who don’t like to plan.

The Underground Goat, our 18 person private dining room, is not your typical private dining space and the name encapsulates exactly what you're looking forward to. Located under the main dining room, you and your guests will be lead downstairs, through the restaurant and into the "staff only" halls of the Goat. The room itself echoes the casual, rustic atmosphere of the main dining room and is host to the restaurant's wine and liquor stock - don't be surprised if you see the hardworking bar staff sneak in a few times to keep things rolling upstairs. Chef Stephanie Izard will design a family-style menu for you (dietary restrictions will not be ignored) and our beverage director will recommend wine, beer and/or a signature cocktail to match what Stephanie comes up with.

Girl & the Goat Ratings and Reviews
Due to a glitch on Open Table’s end we missed our reservation and Girl & the Goat made sure they got us the next available table when we arrived. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. The food was amazing! There was no way I was leaving my visit to Chicago without eating here!
I had been trying to get reservations for a while and was finally able to make it in for my birthday. It was worth the wait! This has been the best experience I’ve had so far in the city since I moved here a couple of months ago. The food was delicious and paired perfectly with the drinks. The service was even better. Our waitress was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. She definitely made the experience even better. In summary, great drinks, food, and ambiance. I recommend it 100%
The food was good. However, the seat they gave be was broken, slanted and very uncomfortable. One of the dishes We ordered was the roasted beet salad with green beans, anchovy, avacado. There were only 2 green beans in the dish. With all the hype I was Very disappointed
We finally were able to get a reservation and it was fantastic! The restaurant is very casual and the wait staff Is very nice and helpful. It’s basically a tapas place so everyone can share, which adds to the fun. We had a great time and can’t wait to go back.
Well wishes autograph from Top Chef winner, Stephanie Izard as I’ve been a huge fan of hers! The food was very flavourful where weird combination surprisingly paired really well together. Ie. salted caramel and steak. Excited to have our first anniversary dinner here! Great service and we got seated before our reservation. A must visit when visiting Chicago!
Girl & the Goat did not disappoint whatsoever. We showed up a bit early for our reservation but were seated right away. Amazing service from Owen, and the rest of the staff were extremely attentive as well. Some of our fave dishes included the green beans, bucatini and the sweet potato cake/toffee dessert (can't remember exact name). The wine list was very impressive, but as a beer drinker I was wishing they had a larger selection! Overall, this famous spot lived up to their reputation and I cannot wait to come back!
Great experience. Went here to celebrate a birthday. When we were being seated, the host said we have a great table for you. They sat us at the Chef’s table where we could see the food preparations. The chef’s joked with us and answered any questions.
Food was terrific as always (I think it’s the fourth time we’ve been here). Everything was great but our favorites were probably the branzino and the green beans.
There’s a reason why it is recognized as top restaurant. First class all the way.
Many good options in the city. Think this place will appeal to out-of-towners looking to experience food seen on TV. Not too many places feature goat so that would be the best reason to come here. Otherwise steep prices for small portions of well-thought out dishes.
This place is (almost) everything everyone says it is...ambiance, environment and atmosphere is top notch; service was impeccable; the bread/spreads, seafood and desserts were as good as it gets (my family of four all thought that the pork and goat were not at the same level and/or overrated). Overall, though, the three month wait for a reservation were indeed worth it.
Certainly a lively place - seems one of the last Chicago restaurants to close. Inventive (many Asian fusion leanings) and strong flavors make things all but boring. As with tradition, ordered a variety of meats (and one vegetable - the green beans, which were a good break from the meats, but were a bit tough). The first course, duck tartar, was amazing - but admittedly, by the time we got to 6th course of the Goat - we were a bit flavored out. Very reasonably priced - my glass of Cabernet was very good.
Great experience. The food was amazing. Loved the marinated olives and chickpea fritter. The potato bread was good but nothing exceptional. The goat empanadas were amazing. The Girl and the Goat Red wine was very very very good also. The marinated skirt steak was great, the pig face was outstanding. We were celebrating our 9th wedding anniversary and our server made it a great experience. We couldn’t decide on a dessert so he split two of them in half the Carmel corn and vanilla malt and toffee with butterscotch ice cream...both were amazing!!! They put candles in both desserts which was a really nice touch.
We were in Chicago for a few days. We wanted to try this popular restaurant. We found the menu varied, the food excellent, the atmosphere great, but the service poor. The dishes arrived very quickly, and even too much. At the point where we still had a mouthful and we removed the plate to put another. We understood that we had to release the table very quickly.
We had a great meal and our server was friendly and attentive. He helped us navigate the menu and make some excellent choices. The cauliflower that everyone raved about was fabulous!
We also loved how fresh the oysters tasted as well as the sauteed calamari (vs. Fried). While the plates were smaller (tapas), they were full of flavor and we left feeling full and satisfied. The only real complaint is the seating for 2 people. I hate the row seating where you are 4 inches from the table next to you. Not only is it an inconvenience if you need to use the restroom, but you have no privacy and can hardly have a conversation.
It’s a quite loud environment but it is to be expected because it is a crowded restaurant all year round. The food was alright. It wasn’t anything groundbreaking. Portions are small and it’s recommended you order 2 per person. It’s the kind of food you need to eat with beer or cocktails. Food style is very similar to the Purple Pig if you have been. I wouldn’t get hyped up before because you will be disappointed a little. Food wasn’t bad or anything, but don’t expect to be mind blown. Good drinks selection. Cocktails were quite good.
Awesome food, very creative especially how the flavors were assembled. We had the goat liver mousse, calamari bruschetta, goat chorizo-Lardo pizza, and pan fried shishito peppers. Everything was great as far as food goes. Their cocktail menu was great, except the bartender was inconsistent in making our drinks between the first and second drinks. This place is always packed and always loud. The two person tables are stacked on top of each other, a little bit too close.
We absolutely loved this place. Definitely will go back next trip to Chicago. Service was impeccable. We were treated great and had some delicious unique bites. Goat Belly and escargot raviolis are on the top of the list. Highly recommend everyone who loves and appreciates food to check it out.
If you've heard the hype and wondered whether you should go, or not, I have your answer GO! GO NOW! If you cannot get a reservation, GO ANYWAY and wait to sit at the bar and eat at the bar, but GO! This was my fourth time dining and every trip has been magical, yes, I said magical.
There are always new additions to try, but even the standard bearers feel like new again when you try then. I promise you, this will be one of the best dining experiences of your life.
Our waitress made the evening, She told us the story of the chef, the food and recommended everything from the main course to desert to wine. The food was creative and inventive - but the night belonged to our amazing waitress who made the evening wonderful.
