About Girl & the Goat
Girl & the Goat opened in 2010 with the goal of serving a family style menu of tasty, bold flavored foods in a fun and lively setting. To enhance the experience we offer a selection of wines from around the world with a focus on small producers, a rotating list of craft beers, and a list of fun cocktails created by our bartenders.
Located at 809 W Randolph, Girl & the Goat was one of the first establishments in the Randolph Restaurant Corridor. We offer a variety of seating choices, including a comfortable lounge, bar seats, standard table seating, and four seats close enough to the kitchen line that you might be asked to help. Girl & the Goat accepts reservations but always welcomes walk-ins, nomads, adventurers, and those of you who don’t like to plan.

Special Events & Promotions:
The Underground Goat, our 18 person private dining room, is not your typical private dining space and the name encapsulates exactly what you're looking forward to. Located under the main dining room, you and your guests will be lead downstairs, through the restaurant and into the "staff only" halls of the Goat. The room itself echoes the casual, rustic atmosphere of the main dining room and is host to the restaurant's wine and liquor stock - don't be surprised if you see the hardworking bar staff sneak in a few times to keep things rolling upstairs. Chef Stephanie Izard will design a family-style menu for you (dietary restrictions will not be ignored) and our beverage director will recommend wine, beer and/or a signature cocktail to match what Stephanie comes up with.

Girl & the Goat Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed all aspects of our dining experience, and there was impressive customer service from the moment we walked in and the hostess greeted us. Our server was relaxed, gregarious and knowledgeable. Every food runner took time to orient us to whatever dish was being delivered. We loved being seated by the kitchen and seeing the creation of beautiful dishes. Great (strong!) cocktails and wine.
In order we had: roasted beets, mussels, scallops, skirt steak, bucatini (pasta), and a half order of shishito peppers. We were warned that they had received a 'hot' batch of shishito, so it was nice our server allowed us to order a mini. Topped off the meal with a bowl of toffee cake. Shining stars were the beets, scallops, and skirt steak. Wish there was more skirt steak, but it was flavorful for how seemingly little we got. Service was great, friendly, & accommodating. I wished they would have given us a little more time between courses to enjoy - it felt rushed. Otherwise, we are hoping to get lucky with another reservation again soon!
Exceeded our expectations. Loved the atmosphere (joyous/exuberant), service was incredible (knowledgeable, attentive but not annoying) and the food was fantastic. We had the potato bread, broccoli, shishito peppers, pierogies, and goat loin. All amazing. So much flavor and perfect portion sizes.
Food and service were great. They are very efficient, so they do move you at a brisk pace through your dining experience to make sure you are done in time for the next reservation. Felt slightly rushed....scallops, bucatini with pork shoulder and pork shank were excellent.
I travel to Chicago regularly and have tried to get a reservation each time. I was able to get a table for two for myself and a colleague. We both agree that it was one of the best dining experiences we have had. We were thrilled to find out when we arrived that we would be sitting at the chef's table. Watching Chef Izard and her crew work was inspiring. The detail, precision, and calm confidence that came from the kitchen was amazing. Each dish we had was our favorite. We interacted with many of the servers throughout the evening and they were all attentive and knowledgeable. We were able to say hello and thank Chef Izard for the wonderful evening which was a treat. I look forward to going back again very soon!
My wife and I have always wanted to try The Girl and the Goat and we finally got our chance after 3 trips to Chicago and were not disappointed! Though i would not consider the restaurant to be kids friendly, we did receive very good service even with a 11 month old baby. They gave us a perfect corner spot where our baby girl could sit in her high chair while also got to play on the bench when she was done. My wife and I each enjoyed a custom cocktail and had the Hamachi Crudo as starter. The best dish in my opinion was the pork shank with house made naan. The duck tongues were also delicious. The chickpea fritters were nicely done and so was the Bleu Cheese Sweet Potato Pierogies. Definitely would love to return and try the other dishes.
We had a wonderful experience at Girl & The Goat-- The restaurant was packed in a lively way but we were still seated almost immediately with our reservation. The service was fantastic, the food was incredible and the scene was lively and fun. Ordered 9 dishes for 8 people plus dessert which was way too much food but totally worth it!
We were visiting from out of town and I’m so glad I made a reservation ahead of time to visit.
The food and cocktails were delicious. The service was attentive and the atmosphere was great.
We had the goat empanadas, goat liver mousse, escargot ravioli and green beans. Everything was so good. Best green beans we have ever had!
The sweet potato cake for dessert was also delicious.
Definitely worth a visit! We will be back when we’re in Chicago again.
Food w interesting flavors and creative combinations of ingredients and spices. Best dish: goat belly. Will try goat neck next time. Green beans and broccoli great. Everything worth trying, liked, didn't love. A spot to definitely see and be seen. Tables too close together , making conversation difficult, ESP if table next to you loud as was w our experience: very annoying faux intellectual next to us carrying monologue about political "polarization" throughout dinner. Talking a lot without saying much, repetitive use of 1-2 big vocabulary words to make himself seem smart. Was very annoying.
WoW!! This place resembles and delivers food which is so amazing on the palate that you would want more. We started with the beet salad which was good. Every plate is to share so we ordered more and then more. Second option was confit goat belly, meat was crunchy on the outside and soft within & just melted in the mouth. While we were waiting for goat loin, we received cauliflower as complements from the restaurant. We had never tasted cauliflower as good as what we got. Goat loin was perfect blend of meat, eggplant and yogurt. Desert of sticky yummy toffee pudding was just a perfect finish to an amazing dinner. Would come back again as difficult to find such flavorful food often.
This eclectic gem was a wonderful foodie experience for us! Absolutely would recommend it. The duck tongues and goat belly dishes were phenomenal and the green beans were the best I've had in my lifetime. The gluten free bread was amazing!!! And lots of the menu is easily made gluten free. The only complaint: too loud and pretty tight spaces. But still worth it!
Girl and the Goat was an AMAZING experience!! I was in Chicago on business and made a reservation a head of time. We were three meat eaters with a vegetarian and sharing plates still worked perfectly! LOVED everything about this restaurant, food, service, ambiance were all incredible. Will be going back again and trying her other restaurants!
This is my new favorite venue in Chicago. Super attentive server made my SIL's birthday extra special. Food was beyond awesome, we had the broccoli, beet salad, goat empenadas and skirt steak - all was super delicious. Impressed that the server recommended which courses would be delivered in what order if we ordered one option or another. I will be back.
I went in with high expectations. Made last minute booking for my friend's birthday celebration via open table and got one at 11:30pm on Dec 2. All 3 of us were completely disappointed with the food. The roasted cauliflower was lame. The crudo was ok and what happened to the pork belly there? The duck tongue, we can't even finish. Bill came up at around 150USD, wouldn't mind that much amount of money spent if everything is good but seriously since we didn't like anything, we left with unfinished food and left hungry. I was a fan of Chef Izard just watching her from the tv shows but the food in this restaurant was a complete let down. I'm not returning and clearly not recommending to my friends either. Awful experience. One of the servers was very rude when I asked if there's anything they can offer for my friend celebrating her birthday.
Wanted to check this place out for some time now and happened to find a reservation available when I would be in Chicago - so I snatched it up and it definitely lived up to my expectations!! Creative and flavorful menu. Simply put, in my opinion, Girl & the Goat lives up to the hype.
Our experience at Girl & the Goat was a very nice. Delicious food; all small plates. My husband and I ordered three appetizers and two small plate entrees, and we were stuffed by the end! Each dish had delicious layering of flavors, with fresh ingredients. Our server was extremely helpful, asked about allergies, and when notified of a milk intolerance, she took a Sharpy to the menu and outlined everything with dairy, and what could and could not be removed. Very helpful! The music was a little loud with the size of the restaurant, but very nice atmosphere otherwise! Would go again!
