We had been meaning to go to Girasol for some time and finally got there to celebrate a special birthday. So many wonderful choices on the menu. We shared 5 different plates, from Mussels to Meatballs, and all were fabulous! The chefs are preparing some inspired dishes here. The roasted brussel sprouts in with the veal split shank were sooo tasty. Loved the mussels in a tomato sauce (and we are picky about our mussels). The blackberry compote with the dessert was to die for!! We can't wait to come back
Amazing dining experience. I had the Chef's tasting menu and it was a truly special night. Chef visits you at the table and crafts a menu to your exact liking. Could not have asked for a more wonderful night. My dining partners tremendously enjoyed their dishes as well. Must go!
I had been looking forward to going to Girasol for a long time, but until now my schedule didn’t work. Oh my—-what a disappointment. I’m not given to exaggeration, but the service was atrocious; when the waiter finally arrived at almost 15 minutes, I was half up getting ready to leave. The food was way over spiced, the fish and the wagyu steak too salty. Incidentally, the steak was on the chewy side. I usually give a first time bad experience a second chance—-but not this time
Too Noisy and Not Exceptional.
Went based on Jonathan Gold's new rating of the 101restaurants. Tthe table the three of us were seated next to a table of 4 which was so loud we had to shout. at are table guest. While patorns noticed, wait staff ignored. I had booked on open table and noted it was for a birthday. Wait staff said and did nothing. Not good. People can be gently reminded they are not in thier living room.
Then again, most good to excellent restaurants acknowledge the birthday or bring a comp dessert to the table. Not thisone. No mention No Coml
The red lentil polenta was excellen but quite enough for one person. Didnt need the Octopus!
Again wait staff said nothing about not needing another dish. The Octopus, my second item was run of the mill. I have eaten in many fine to excellent restaurants. This one is good, but that's about it.
We had a wonderful meal filled with delicious food and different flavors. The waiter was most helpful in giving us suggestions on what to order and the amount to order. Although the food is pricey, it is well worth it especially for a special occasion. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. The owner came over and made sure that everything was good. That was a nice touch.
Food was a hit or miss. We ordered four dishes. Two were terrible and two were very good. I would not recommend the artichoke (tough, greens were almost inedible) or the bacon burrata dish (bacon was a thick steak and virtually inedible as well). The mussels and meatballs were both very good. As was the bread.
I'd been curious about Girasol for a while and finally got around to dining there. What a lovely experience! We went for the chef's 9 course tasting menu and first he came out to check for any special dietary needs or dislikes. Then the dishes started coming out and we loved just about everything. We'd been assured that each dish was very tiny, but there was quite a bit of food and we were stuffed.
The ambience and the service added to the experience and it all made for a terrific evening.
With drinks and tip it was about $400 for two, but we felt it was worth it. You could certainly dine there for significantly less, and I'd like to go back and try more dishes.
Our server was excellent! She took care of us and was professional and attentive. The complimentary bday dessert was very nice and I really appreciated it. Octopus salad and smashed potatoes portion were good, but the rest of the dishes (fish of the day, scallops, duck confi) we ordered were really small for the price.
Don't tell me that there are no GREAT restaurants in the Valley: here is The One.
Ask for Grace as your server - she was wonderful, and do that tasting menu, Chef Justin will take care of you.
Best meal i have ever had in the Valley and decided on the spot that we would have my company's Christmas party here.
Food was delicious! Will return again! Staff were friendly. Great neighborhood spot! Warm environment! Outdoor space! Cocktail was good! Food presentations excellent. Desert beerry donut and whole snapper were my favorite. Good job to the chefs! Wonderful service!👍
The menu is pretty fussy, we were looking for drinks and appetizers and there was no simple vegetable dishes avail. Try naybwant to add a few nibble, simpler dishes into the menu. The person who sat us (it was 5 and only one other table in the Restaurant) tried to bring drinks and got the drink order wrong 2 times... wouldn’t run back there.
I like the location as I can walk from my house. Unfortunately, this is a little pricey for everyday dining. Wine prices are outrageous. The food was good and well presented. Only problem, so very, very salty. If I eat there again I hope I remember to tell them to hold the salt
Well I have to start by saying the interior decor is the best thing about this restaurant. I reviewed the "by the glass" wine list, out of the 6 red wines listed I was told by our waiter that they were out of my first two choices...hard to believe they wouldn't be able to find a substitute cabernet, my third choice was mediocre. So a bit of a rough start. We ordered the $5.00 house bread upon the recommendation of the manager. Unfortunately, the bread was mediocre and the only upside was the honey butter served with it. Then we ordered the meatballs as our first course. The only drawback were the small chunks of gristle inside. Our main was the red snapper... very strong presentation but very lite on flavor/ seasoning. The side sauce had little to no flavor and the fish required salt. It seemed like the restaurant was doing a weak version of the snapper served at Tar and Roses. Overall we were disappointed because we were hoping to love this neighborhood restaurant and because some of the old reviews were good. Unfortunately we will not be back.
Nice restaurant with somewhat unique and appealing decor. Indoor and patio seating, although specify patio seating at time of reservation or you won't get it simply by asking when you arrive, even if tables seem to be abundantly available. The food was very tasty and the server attentive and informative. They were out of both Cabernet and Syrah at 6:30 in the evening! Really? Overall a very pleasant experience but could use some management improvement for the price.
Always live going to Girasol! Their food and drink is usually outstanding in a foodie kind of way. This lat st visit wasn't quite up to its normal WOW factor but we will definitely go back. A bit pricey as of late--or perhaps I just ordered more than usual. Regardless this is a gen in the valley!
Here's the thing... I really WANT to love this restaurant, but they are making it really hard. It is close to home, has lovely decor and ambiance, and a menu that sounds amazing. But somehow it just doesn't all fit together. This was our 4th visit (because, like I said, I WANT it to end up being great, and probably our last. The service is always friendly (with one notable exception 2 visits ago), but not always good. Meaning, long lapses between being seated and someone coming to the table. Then a really long lapse between the wine being poured and anyone coming back because a party of 10 got seated in the meantime and they required a lot of attention. Then we had a great conversation with the friendly hostess and, again, it made me want to like Girasol. The descriptions of the food on the menu sound amazing, and it has potential. But for the price point, the taste better meet or exceed your expectations based on the description in the menu. And for most of the dishes, it just doesn't. We did like the burrata and peaches appetizer. Peaches were perfectly ripe, the buratta was delish and the toasted lentils added a nice crunch. We also had the hamachi appetizer and found that the marinade it was served in was WAY too sweet. It overwhelmed what was otherwise a beautiful serving of hamachi. I had the sea bass which was the fresh fish special. Now, I like salt, and I salt my food fairly regularly, but this seabass and the mushroom and (I think) potato side dishes were so salty that it was hard to eat, as if it had just been over salted from the beginning of the cooking process. My husband had the fried whole snapper, which was fine, but the chile sauce with it was very mild. That's a matter of personal preference, I suppose. On a positive note, the cocktails were good and the bartender came out from behind the bar to deliver them to us.
Anyhow, my feeling is that when your entrees are $35-$40, they need to be superb, and so does the service.
This is was our third visit to Girasol. The first two experiences were incredible- amazing food, great cocktails, service that went above and beyond...a truly memorable experience that we were happy to pay for. The third time...not so good. We learned that the chef and the management had changed, and it was glaringly obvious. It started with the hostess taking our order, because our waiter had ignored us for 15 minutes after we sat down, despite there being only four other tables occupied in the entire restaurant. We should have gotten up and left right then and there. The disappointments just kept coming in both food and service. Bummer...this used to be stellar spot under Chef CJ.
We really enjoyed our meal here and will come back again. It was a quiet Sunday next to the Labor day holidays and so a conversation was possible in the beautifully designed dining room. We split two starters, the Little Gem Salad and the pigs ears. Both very good. Then we split two entrees, sea bass, well presented cooked just right, with foraged greens - and a duck breast, rare, that was soft as butter. Next time, we will try every starter on the menu and some of the side vegetables. This restaurant should be on everyone's list, especially if you live in the valley for inventively prepared traditional food.
We went for the night before my husband's birthday, and shared the nine course tasting menu. It was outstanding! From the scallop ceviche starter to the fig cake dessert, every course was a winner. We love fish, and most courses were fish forward, though we were given the option to state our preference, we really wanted to see what the chef wanted to do, and we were mightily impressed and delighted. All the courses were elegantly presented, and filled with inventive flavors. Just before dessert, there were beef cheeks, and my husband is a huge fan of those, so it was kind of a birthday surprise for him!
Try the tasting menu-- you'll love it. We certainly did.
The service was slow and inattentive. The duck was neither crispy nor flavorful , and the quinoa was undercooked like pebbles. The exotic mushrooms were tasteless. With all the available street parking, it is insulting to have no parking during dinner time so patrons are forced to use valet parking.
