With us being from Chicago to call this Italian is a travesty. I review every place I go anywhere. 6:40 reservations party of 3 There out of gnocchi and steak on a Saturday night. Ordered Carpaccio meat partly frozen (they didn't allow to warm enough to thaw) in the middle and the just drizzles some mustard mayo, no quail egg, capers, tiny couple pieces of cheese. Beet salad with honey walnuts, goat cheese, balsamic. was served without nuts. Asked server retrieved the nuts. Caesar salad was ok but the crouton was so hard it took 2 hands to break it in half. it was 6 inches long. The ravioli was tasty very small portion. The pasta my wife ordered she asked for no tomatoes, the server stated they can't it's all prepped in advance. Well when her plate came it had 2 pieces of tomato in ie well large enough to have taken out. So either the Chef (or none chef maybe just kitchen help.) choose to be lazy or really doesn't care. So my plate consisted of meatballs, sausage spinach and alfredo (which they did not have but said they could make it). I asked for this because I can not eat pasta. So when dropping the food I had no utensils my wife needed cheese for her pasta and butter for our bread. First of all do not order any sausage it was the size of breakfast sausage and tasted nothing like it. The meatballs ARE not made from scratch. They had the taste and texture of prepack hi salt heavy filler meatballs. Then 1 desert ordered of a cookies and cream ice cream and our server came out with raspberry and said were out. take it away then. We went to the Nashville location and were very disappointed. Decided to give the west location a shot. If your pallet is well trained on all levels of food flavors from sliders to beef wellington. This place will not fool you. To all others you'll never notice. This place should have 2 stars.
The prices were expensive for what you received . The food mediocre and service blah.
Very disappointed, in food, atmosphere, and service. We have many restaurants in walking distance of our home and we drove 25 mins to get there looking for a good italian restaurant. 1st- off parking is terrible. Very limited. The parking lot was full so we pulled to the side & hopped in to ask the hostess where we should park. Not helpful. She had no idea and was irritated we made her look up from her iPhone. We asked about the empty lot next door at the veterinary clinic. She said its ok to park there. Once we were seated and asked our server he told us cars are towed from there. Went back out to move car across the street to another empty lot. 2nd-place is not very nice. Old, dark. 3rd-can be loud. Couple at another table decided on cancelling their dessert and wine after dinner due to large loud table in dining room. We did the same. 4th-food was just average 5th-only 1 cook in the kitchen so don't ask for anything 6th-watched the little hostess sit there on her chair all night with her head buried in her phone when she could have at least help serve water to the tables that aren't even 10 feet away. Never saw her get up and seat another customer.
Fabulous food, friendly staff
Very good overall. We went to the Belle Meade location, and they had a very limited menu, but was very good. Found out downtown has full menu. My understanding is the lease is up soon at Belle Meade and they may not renew.
Portion sizes are very small. Was not impressed with the food. Artichokes were either canned or frozen, gnocchi was blah and sauce was bland. Overall not a great food experience.
Where do I begin? Let’s start with the entrance....that is if u can find it. An unassuming door on the driveway side of the building with lights that were not on and an entry way that was to dark to see the two steps up that we tripped. We were seated without menus so after 6 minutes we just grabbed our phones to google the menu. Then the server let us know they were out of all homemade pastas besides the penne and spaghetti which being an Italian restaurant seemed odd and meant we weren’t getting the correct value we hoped for. After 12 minutes of sitting there without drinks or anything at all ordered at a table that was dark against a wall that those lights were out too we decided our time and money would be better spent elsewhere. I had high hopes but was quickly disappointed.
Very enjoyable dining experience with excellent food and service. I had heard about this restaurant and how it was highly rated and it did not disappoint in any way. I highly recommend it for any occasion as a dining experience.
The food was awesome! Great location. Will definitely go back.
Consistently delicious!! Best calamari and burrata in Nashville. Just go!
Valentines weekend was a disappointment for this establishment. The staff seemed extremely overwhelmed, we had reservations at 7:30 and the hostess had difficulties locating the reservation and offered us to sit at the bar. I declined and pulled the confirmation number out and insisted that I spoke with Matt on Wednesday and gave my credit card to secure the reservations. She then was able to find it, not a great start. Then we still were seated close to the bar and watched as this poor waitress who seemed to have every table in the restaurant run back and forth for over 2 hours. We didn't receive a bread basket or water and when we looked over Valentine's day menu we noticed it was different than the one posted on the website. We specifically chose this location across town for the rack of lamb! Huge disappointment, however, we stayed and waited for our lobster ravioli and filet. They were both decent but I have had much better for far less. We waited a while for the foodservice so we asked for our dessert to go. The total bill was over $300.00 for two people which is fine if the service is superb. Unfortunately, we would not recommend this establishment for a busy night.
Excellent food, service and ambiance. It has always been this way at Giovanni's West. The prices are a little above mid level but they are worth it.
Excellent choice of wines and a very good bar.
A great place for a romantic dinner!
We had a wonderful meal this week. Service, food, everything was very enjoyable and tasty. Best Italian food on the west side, hands down. Always a treat.
We had the veal picatta which was the best in Nashville. I requested a small side of spaghetti with pomodora sauce which they did. They are a little pricey but worth it. The restaurant was quiet so we could talk and tables were spaced apart. Service was great and not rushed.
We had a great meal at Giovanni’s last week. Great service, great authentic Italian food. Great cocktails, The best Italian food on the West side hands down.
Always a treat.
Wonderful dinner of veal and pasta. My husband had the new Ribeye Steak and mashed potatoes an it was delicious!
Service was excellent.
We had a very nice meal at Giovanni's West last week. Two of us had the Chicken Parm, which was excellent while someone else had the veal scaloppini, which was also great.
Matt took great care of us.
Nice dinner at the bar while watching football. Chicken piccata and chicken Parmesan were our entrees and both were very good. Staff friendly and chef does a great job!
Really good northern Italian food. Service is great, great bar. Always love going here for a great neighborhood meal
We had a very nice meal at Gopvanni's last week. Really good northern Italian food. Great bartender and wine list.
Best place in town. But don’t go there so it stays a hidden gem.
It was all good!
Had Chicken Parmesan with Fettucine Alfredo. It was wonderful! Service was great. love the bread sticks.
There was a hair in one of our dishes and half of our group thought their food was bland. Overpriced for small portions.
This restaurant will never loose it's ratings over food! The food was delish! The issue here is the outside and inside of the restaurant which needs help. It's a time capsule inside! Such a shame when the food and service is amazing.
Our food was excellent, we shared a salad which was fresh and excellent. We both had veal piccata and pasta and it was the best veal piccata in town. Pounded thin and prepared perfectly with lemon butter, white wine and capers. Love the quaint pub atmosphere of the BelleMeade location.
Food was good and our server was great. I was very disappointed that they only sat people on one half of the restaurant and kept the other side empty. It would seem during covid it would make sense to use the entire restaurant to better space the tables. As it was there was no spacing of tables and we were certainly seated within 6 feet of another table. While we enjoy Giovanni's, we won't be returning until we don't have to worry about covid.
Matt is the reason we come back as often as we do.
It was an outstanding experience to eat here. The food was incredible the service was unprecedented. I have been telling anyone that will listen to go check them out.
The food is excellent, service is attentive. Our dinners were wonderful, from the Caprese Salad with fresh home grown tomatoes to the veal piccata, lamb and pasta. Best Italian in Nashville!
Portions were small for the price, but the food was excellent! The waiter was attentive but not obnoxiously so. We went for a very early dinner, so the restaurant was not busy. (Had just opened for dinner.)
This was my first time at Giovanni’s and I was very impressed. The food is delicious but also high quality. Wild caught seafood and homemade pasta are not always easy to find in Nashville. The ambience was that of a neighborhood restaurant, which I loved. Our server was very knowledgeable and willing to customize anything for us.
If I was being critical, the only mediocre aspect was the bread. Thin and dry. Not what you expect from an Italian restaurant.
Will definitely be back.
The suburb version of the restaurant. Food is very good, chef is very talented and turns out some of the best Italian food in the City! Lucky us we get to eat some of the best Italian food ever!
Very good Italian dinner. Great tender veal piccata and my husband had chicken piccata side of pasta with marinara. Service was attentive.
We had a very nice meal at Giovanni's West. Service, Food and cocktails were all great. Best Italian food on the West side of Nashville.
Loved the calamari and the bolognese!
Great food and great service!
Waiter was the very best. Food excellent
Disappointing because we know what this restaurant is capable of. Artichoke crab appetizer came out cold. Ceasar salad dressing did not have any suggestion of anchovies. Striped bass cooked correctly but seasoning bland. Genevoise cake was dry and strawberries on it were not ripe.
So disappointed! My husband and I read numerous highly remarked reviews and we were excited to find a nearby gem. There was a preset menu for Valentines, so we were hopeful that each choice would be unique and delicious . Unfortunately, everything from salad to the entree was terrible. Sadly, we would not recommend to anyone.
