Giovanni's Ristorante - Mid Town Ratings and Reviews
Staff was very friendly and service was great, food was very good but prices were extremely high for quantity of food. Example Cheese plate appetizer was $19 and it has like 9 small pieces of cheese. Entree was very tasty but small portion.
Our family usually has a nice family dinner out on Christmas Eve and we were excited for an experience here. Upon arriving we felt so welcome and everyone was so nice. They immediately brought us to our table and the manager greeted us and wished us a merry Christmas. After That’s when things took a turn, we were there for almost 3 hours and I still have not a clue who our server was or what anyone’s name who took care of us was. We had 3-4 servers I assume since one took our drink order, one brought us water and, another took our food order. I have a 5 month old daughter who was doing awesome for already having had a busy day and knew we may be pushing her a bit, expecting that dinner would probably be done within 1.5 to 2 hours. Our food did not hit the table until we had been there for 2 hours, after asking someone where our food was, needless to say our baby was starting to get fussy. No one communicated with us or came by to let us know that our food should be out shortly. We were unable to get drink refills as between the 3-4 people serving us not one came by to offer anything . We also had an appetizer that my brother in law ordered that never came out. Unfortunately, after 2.5 hours my husband and I had to get our underwhelmed food wrapped as we had to get our baby home. The entire family was starving by the time our food came out, and everyone ate quickly as some family members had to ride home in our car. For a table of 8 adults, with drinks and meals our bill was close to $1,000 and we were extremely disappointed. Even after my father in law let the server know we were upset and needed our check no one came by to talk to us. I hope this review helps this restaurant organize their staff and help any future customers with having a good experience as the ambiance is beautiful and the restaurant has potential to be amazing for a family.
Giovanni’s is perhaps my favorite Italian restaurant in Nashville, if not my favorite restaurant.
We booked our reservation for a Christmas Eve dinner, our fourth time. First of all, the ambiance and decor of the restaurant is beautiful and classy. The service is always impeccable, knowledgeable without being intrusive. The wine list is varied with wines from around the world. The menu is classic northern Italian, lots of apps, salads, pastas and entrees.
We started with calamari, crispy tasty and a decent sized portion. Our entrees consisted of squid ink pasta with shrimp and veal scaloppine. Moderate portions, but prepared to perfection. The veal tender enough to cut with a fork and the squid ink pasta, pungent and tasty with the shrimp added as a nice touch. Although full, we chose the chocolate lava cake, outstanding.
As many other reviews have mentioned, the restaurant is pricey, but for me, the service , the quality of the food and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant makes this place worth the visit and I have visited a dozen times or more. One other thing, the in house limoncello is worth the trip alone.
This is only one of a handful of authentic Italian restaurants in middle Tennessee.
The food is very good, as is the service.
The seafood, the veal, the pasta, the salads, the calamari...all good.
Nice wine list too.
We will be regulars here since we just moved to the Nashville area.
The chef is excellent, the food could not be better. Service is attentive and the waiters are knowledgeable about the menu. We love the veal piccatta, tender and delicious. The pasta is excellent. The home made bread sticks are a superb. We rarely have room for dessert, but the Tiramisu is excellent.
Quality restaurant - high quality service, setting, and food. Waiters have just a slight attitude of arrogance -- enough to keep you on your toes and remind you that you are lucky to be there! Very responsive, and efficient. Food presentation and taste as highly satisfying as any place in Nashville. Well worth a visit.
First time visit, secured a Thanksgiving Day reservation since my family and I were in town. We chose the Thanksgiving meal instead of their standard Italian cuisine offerings. Portion on each plate was small, lukewarm and just unsubstantial for the cost . Felt like I was dining out on New Years Eve, where it is typical for restaurants to attach a high price for their entrees and under deliver in quality and service. Very disappointing, nice ambiance and location, but would be reluctant to return.
Nice evening out with friends. Sunday evening dinner was delicious, the pasta special was very good and the salads were fresh. The veal picatta was tender and the mashed potatoes are heavenly. We had tiramisu for dessert.
We enjoyed our meal at Giovanni's Ristorante. It is a quiet restaurant with a nice ambiance. The tagliatelle alla Bolognese was delicious! It was al dante and the sauce was wonderful. I would not recommend the lasagna, however. It sounded delicious on the menu, but it was definitely overcooked and a very small portion for the price. I would say, overall, that based on earlier reviews we were disappointed in the overall experience.
Went to to Giovanni Ristorante last night for the fourth or fifth time. It is by far the best Italian restaurant in Nashville and one of my favourites anywhere. I live in Italy and travel the world on business. The food is amazing and authentic, the wine list is superb and the service is professional.
The service was superb. The wine list was more than adequate. The menu was wonderful and the meals were all consumed with enthusiasm and vigor.
We were dining with clients and wanted a high end experience but easy to converse and with top end cuisine.
Loved the ambiance, and the food was spectacular. We had the filet, pappardelle, and ravioli dishes - all wonderful and SO fresh. The service was WONDERFUL. I couldn't find a babysitter for my friend's birthday outing, so my 10 month old came along. This is not the type of place I would suggest bringing an infant, however, the staff took it in stride. They were very kind and accommodating - and it turned out to be a wonderful experience!
Wonderful restaurant !!!! Chris and Nick were very attentive. I had the menu fish (a type of redfish) which was prepared outstandingly well. My wife had the lasagna. It had a great meat sauce and authentic thin Italian pasta. The wine list had a great selection. Be prepared, it's a little pricey. But overall one of my favorite Italian restaurants.
