About Permanently Closed - Giovanni's Italian Restaurant
This restaurant is permanently closed. Giovanni came to America from Trapani, Sicily when he was 23. His
brother, Nicolo owned the Italian Village in Madison where Giovanni
helped in the kitchen. Eventually they both moved to Milwaukee
where Giovanni helped Nicolo launch another successful Italian
restaurant. After four years Giovanni set out on his own.
Forty years later, Giovanni has become a renowned Milwaukee
restauranteur. His three sons, Sal, David and Joey, have learned the
restaurant business from their mother and father, mastering their
unparalleled recipes and traditions.
Giovanni has passed these recipes and his love for serving people
down to his sons. Now Giovanni’s — the legendary Milwaukee
restaurant — is back with father and sons side by side.

Giovanni's Italian Restaurant - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
being the last day of service we were expecting more than what we got. first of all no valet parking had to drive around for 15 minutes and ended up paying $15.00 for parking. got in there and we were seated right away was not that crowded the waitress then told us they were out of all veal dishes(my wife,s favorite) no more pork chops and one other dish that I can not remember. wife had the chicken marsala and I had the rosa stuffed filet both were good but nothing spectacular our waitress was great since I think they were short on help. got comped a free dessert for our anniversary. but the time we left the place it was really loud. disappointed that they did not want to go out with a bang
We went to Giovanni's for our five year anniversary. Though it took a little longer to be seated (even though we had reservations, because of a wedding happening there that night it took longer than normal to seat people at their tables), it was well worth the wait. Easily the BEST bruschetta I have ever had, and the pappardelle al funghi was impeccably seasoned. To top it all off, because it was our anniversary, they gave us dessert on the house (we selected the cheesecake and it was delicious; perfect for splitting)! Next special occasion we have, Giovanni's will definitely be a contender!
Have the shrimp scamponi and it was fabulous! They were so large it was like eating lobster. Our waitress was wonderful. The only issue was that there was such an incredibly loud group of people at the bar that you could not even carry on a conversation. We were seated upstairs and the noise level was ridiculous.
Traveling through Milwaukee and after some research, the six of us decided on Giovanni's Italian Restaurant. The ambiance was wonderful; the food was at the appropriate temperature and wonderfully prepared and plated. Service was great; there when you needed/wanted them but not 'hanging' over us. It was a great 'find' and when back in Milwaukee, a definite for dining.
Have wanted to go since they closed on Van B/ Brady years ago. Solid dinner. Nice atmosphere. I had the veal parm which was fine. My wife had some kind of stuffed steak that was fantastic. Wine was great and so was the salted caramel cheesecake. Will definitely go back.
Giovani's has become out favorite restaurant in Milwaukee. The food is always spectacular. The service is excellent. I think it may be the best Milwaukee offers in fine dining. The fish is always perfectly prepared, as was the grouper this night. And the scamponi is the best I've had anywhere. Bravo! Giovani!!!
Everything from start to finish was excellent. Warm & friendly service from a lovely young woman who just graduated from college and hopes to attend Med School in the fall. Drinks,
appetizers, and main course were terrific. It was our 45 anniversary and they sent us a complimentary tiramisu dessert. Great people & great food - that's what it is all about.
I wanted to like Giovanni's--we were regulars at the old Giovanni's on Van Buren and finally made it to the new incarnation. But two things made us never want to go back: The lighting at 5:00 pm was ridiculously dim, so much so that we were blind trying to follow the hostess to our table, not knowing if we were about to hit a step or who knows what. Mood lighting is one thing; making people grope as they make their way in is rude. Our entrees seemed fine, if not oustanding, until I spent the rest of the weekend with gastro-intestinal problems. Sorry, but once was enough.
I LOVE this place and always have a great meal but. We made our reservation for 7:15 not very late and was disappointed two fold one since there was an event at the Bradly center I wasn't able to get my favorite dish(my fault for not looking first). But the fact they were running out of dishes from appetizers to deserts so early.
I love this place but was disappointed for a weekend. I'll stick with early weekday visits when Giovanni is there himself.
