restaurant was recently remodeled and is very attractive. The low level of lighting, however, made it difficult to read the menu
The waitresses were attentive. They seemed a bit hurried toward the end although no one was in waiting for a table. The food was enjoyable with excellent presentation. I felt the music from the live entertainment at the bar could have been on low volume and piped through to the dining area . I look forward to your jazz night !
Very disappointed with the service and food quality. It took over an hour before we got salads. Wrong entree was brought to 1 of our 4. Quail was over cooked. Will not return.
We went for a wedding rehearsal dinner and made reservations last minute. The staff was very nice and accommodating to us. We were running behind on our reservations and we were assured everything would be fine. Service was excellent and the salmon was some of the best I’ve ever had!
The food was good, as was the ambiance.
The staff were attentive and it was lovely to see real relationships between the staff and returning customers.
The lower rating was because we had to wait a ridiculous time for our meal, despite ordering before the huge party seated near us.
That said, I would go back.
I have been a customer of Giovanni's for many years. I even chose it to have my wedding rehearsal dinner at the restaurant. Recently there has been some type of management/staff change. The result was not the quality of food I enjoyed for many years. In my opinion the owner needs to have a presence at a small restaurant like this. The employees (hostess/waitress/manager) tried hard to apologize for the recent changes, but really this falls on the owner in my opinion. Please consider this as constructive criticism, not judgement. I want this restaurant to succeed as it is a great location with historically fantastic Italian food (I am Italian).
excellent food, excellent service and the new atmosphere was a great enhancement. We will certainly be back for more!!!
Always one of my favorite restaurants in the Greensboro area. Great for a group or an intimate evening. The food never disappoints.
Sorry to say this, because the service and ambience was so good, but the food was not, and I am not a picky eater! We had the spaghetti and sausage and the bruschetta. Neither were good. I would say, if you go there to get something else. The service was sooo good. I loved the atmosphere. The cannoli was very good!
Best authentic Italian food, and a wonderful staff.
Once again incredible food and service. Best Italian restaurant in the triad by far.
First off, I would like to say that the food was actually quite good. However, the experience was dreadful!
Upon sitting down we had some confusion as we were talking to ourselves and one member of our party was missing a menu, so he only took one person’s drink order, went got their beverage, and then came back.
We order appetizers and then waited to place our dinner order, which he did not seem to be in a hurry to take. Growing impatient with the menus sitting in front of us closed, I informed him we were ready to order.
When my husband went to order the swordfish, he order a premium side (as indicated on the menu), a salad, and a side pasta (again, as indicated on the menu), the waiter said that he would not charge him for the premium side, but was confused on why he was also ordering other things. Clearly, the waiter was not familiar with the menu. When I showed the waiter the section where it indicated what came with the entree, he got short with me and said that he was going to give him what he wanted. We were not asking for special treatment, but rather for what was indicated on the menu. After done back and forth, I asked to speak with a manager. The manager set the waiter straight and he came back over to take the rest of our orders.
Now, I was asking for several accommodations for my meal (a Caesar salad instead of a house salad) and a pasta with olive oil and garlic instead of the meat sauce. I did mention that I knew I was being difficult with order and would be happy to pay for any upcharges as a result of the order.
The waiter then came back several times to check-in with various people about what we had ordered. Not a good sign. He had written everything down, so I am not sure where the confusion was. Of course, mistakes were made, but we eventually got the right food.
When the bill came, he had applied a 20% tip. On the way out the manager told us that was normally done for parties of 7 or more. We were a party of 6.
Once again the food was outstanding the bar area is incredibly nice
Noise level was so loud it was hard to carry on a conversation without yelling at the person next to you.
First, our plans were changed at the last minute because of travel issues with family members and Clayton the host was wonderful!!! He worked with us to ensure our group was seated after having to change the time. And our server, who name I am forgetting, was also wonderful. The food was outstanding--best manicotti I have ever had!
Hostess was rude after we stated we had a reservation through open table. She did no longer speak to us just point and nod
Excellent as always! Best Italian value in Greensboro.
Wound up eating at the bar since the dining room was so noisy. Food was great as always.
The atmosphere was great, service was fantastic and food was amazing!!
The food was absolutely amazing and the service was outstanding
There ended up being 3 of us for dinner. Wine was good and reasonably priced. My husband and I had the salmon special with shrimp and a lobster sauce. It was very delicious. My vegetarian daughter had scrumptious gnocchi. Servings were generous. It was my Birthday and I was offered a choice of 6 or 7 desserts. Not an easy call, but I chose a chocolate cake that was fabulous! The server was knowledgeable and very pleasant. We will be back!
Service and food was great. We had reservations but chose to sit at the bar because the bartender was so sweet and took such great care of us. We will be back!!
everything was great until the entrees came and they were horrible.. I had pizza and it had no taste at all and my wife had eggplant parm and it wasn't cooked... neither had any seasoning or flavor whatsoever...
A great place to spend an evening and enjoy the company!!!
We had a awesome dinner. Was a great causal environment with fresh ingredients like veal, clams, and pasta's.
Service was excellent, salad was great and I think their pizza is the best in town! We were pleasantly surprised how good it was. We will definitely be going back.
Excellent food and service. The ambiance is perfect for any occasion. Outstanding wine list. One of the best restaurant s in Ohio.
We were looking for a quiet evening for dinner. Unfortunately, there was live music. While the musician was VERY good, it was hard to have a conversation (I have hearing aides that pick up LOTS of background noice).
So the evening ended up not being exactly what we bargained for. Food is good however.
First time visiting Giovanni's...definitely will not be our last!
My husband is a little more of a picky eater than I. But we both immensely enjoyed the food & the experience. The music, food & and ambiance made our after Valentine's day celebration/date night more special and memorable. We've declared this as our new favorite romantic date spot!!!
Over the course of my 72 years dining at restaurants around the world, Giovanni's had the worst service I have ever experienced anytime anywhere. Our appetizers (bruschetta, shrimp cocktail and cold antipasti) arrived 55 minutes after ordering and just before our wine ordered an hour earlier despite several requests to various personnel. The response from our server was that everything was made to order and takes time, She was oblivious to the fact that wine, bruschetta and shrimp cocktail could not possibly take 55 minutes to prepare. We then were served an ok Caesar salad and after 2 hours and 25 minutes , we still had not received our 3 pasta entrees. We asked that the entrees be boxed and we took them home but were so disappointed with the entire evening that we did not eat the leftovers. My worst experience at a restaurant in 72 years, If I ignore the service, everything else was at best ok but the total absence of service or basic courtesy was over whelming and unforgettable.
Not sure if they didn’t realize they need more staff and better organization due to Valentine’s Day and all the reservations that they had or if they didn’t care but the service was horrible. No one seemed to have a clue about organization or taking care of their customers. The worst one was the dinning room manager. He was clueless and could not have cared less. But that didn’t keep him from ordering his wait staff around in circles. The food was ok but not exceptional. Decor outdated. But the main problem was getting waited on.
Good place food was delicious. Little confusion on who our server was but drinks were delicious. With the evening out
The service was superb! With a large party of 10 on Valentine's day and the restaurant to capacity, we were well taken care of from the time we walked in the door. Valentine's menu had excellent choices and food was cooked to perfection. To top it off they kept the bubbly flowing!
Very nice Valentines Day dinner.
Wonderful evening.Food and service was excellent. Will certainly return.
Wonderful place, both for a casual dinner or a celebration. Adonna is a gem!
Took my husband here for dinner. Had 7:00 reservations and when we arrived they suggested we eat in the bar. I didn’t want to eat in the bar and the hostess seemed perturbed. Anyhow we were seated. Took forever to get a server. Finally did. Ordered appetizer lamb. It was delish. Salad was about a cup of salad. Seriously. Had Alfredo with chicken. Tasted like a napkin. When he brought our bill he had not even put the bill in the pad 😂. I stated in my reservation this was for a birthday but nothing was mentioned. Very noisy inside. Won’t be going back.
We were pleased with food selection, quality, and quantity. Our server Mike exceeded our service expectations. We will return, and we’ve already begun telling our friends and family!
This was my first visit to Giovanni's and it was a date with a friend. The place is nice, and I might try it again on another occasion, but I wasn't overly impressed with my food. The ambiance in the restaurant was nice and our server was fairly attentive and pleasant. The bread was great, but the salad didn't seem to be much more than bag salad (which had a few dark, wilted pieces at that). Although mushrooms and chunks of mozzarella were added, the bed of lettuce is the main thing you see (and presentation is important)! My friend loved his linguine with shrimp, but my lasagna just wasn't what I expected. Unlike the typical layered and stacked dish, this was pretty flat on the plate and drenched in sauce almost like ravioli. A friend who frequents the place and recommended the lasagna was shocked when I told her about my plate and she said hers has never been like that when she went. Perhaps there was just something going on in the kitchen that night and I got a bad batch. I can't say that I would order it again but maybe I would try the linguine that my date had.
