Slow getting food. No flavor to the food.
We could only get a 5:15 reservation, I’m not sure why. There was hardly anyone there except for two large tables. The rest of the restaurant was empty on a Saturday night when we left at 6:30. It was my birthday and our wedding anniversary. The service was terrible, the waiter barely spoke. Brought us a salad without even asking us what type of dressing we wanted. The chicken piccata had 3 tiny pieces of chicken in varying sizes that tasted like raw flour. The Alfredo was super bland is sticky. At $24 per entree I would expect better service and better food. We were brought our check as soon as our plates were cleared without even being asked about dessert or anything else. The waiter at the next table removed his mask EVERY time he approached the table??
There’s MuCH better Italian to be found in Greensboro. Shame on us for not sticking with Salvinos or Positano.
Very good with a diverse wine list. They were also accommodating when we needed to change our reservation time. Good experience
We were visiting the area for High Point University graduation & were staying in Greensboro. It was really nice having a good Italian restaurant nearby. Sat outside... great band playing, wonderful service & great food. Would definitely visit again. Priced moderately!
Our waiter was very resourceful and attentive. Service was faster than expected and the food high quality, authentic and very good!
Fiancées birthday dinner. Very good food and service. However they tried to offer us plastic cups to drink wine. We said we prefer glass and the did accommodate us.
This was my first visit to this restaurant and I was totally and completely satisfied. The food, service and the pleasant atmosphere just made my day. I recommend Giovanni’s if you love Italian food and atmosphere. Thanks 😊
Good Italian food. Good entertainment. Waitstaff was sincere but made several mistakes on the check.
They seemed to be overwhelmed at every turn and the service staff failed at every step. We really gave them the benefit of the doubt and hung in there, but it went on for close to three hours. We were outside enjoying ourselves, so it did not matter.
We met our adult children halfway in Greensboro for dinner at Giovanni ‘s. It was a special occasion with our oldest moving to Chicago this week. We had never heard of the restaurant and frankly it was the only place we could get a reservation for on open table on such short notice. We sure did luck out! The patio was lovely, the food was delicious, we loved the live music. It did seem like they might’ve been a little busier than they were staffed for but we were in absolutely no hurry so it did not bother us a bit.
Good live music, food was well prepared
When we arrived we were told that open table reservations were not honored and we needed to call ahead if we wanted a reservation. After our stern talk we were finally seated. We considered ordering an appetizer because we were fairly hungry but we were told there was bread so we decided to have that instead. The bread never came. Tables around us got multiple baskets of bread. I ordered the shrimp scampi and was so excited when it finally came. This was the first time I ever experienced a breaded shrimp in shrimp scampi and it taste like vinegar. It was almost like a salt and vinegar chip with shrimp in the middle. My husband got the chicken parmigiana and it didn’t come with any pasta. Just a big chicken and tomato sauce. The whole experience was odd and we will not be returning
It's was terrible. We walked out on the service. Waited 15 min to be greeted when we had a reservation at 7:30. Then we got seated and got no service until 7:55- 10 min after seated. Then they ask to take our order right when they see us when he HAVENT gotten a damn menu or Anything. But everyone else was way more important.
Menu online is completely different from what the menu was. Hostess was terrible, everyone was completely confused about any reservation, Was supposed to be upper class italian and we ordered caesar salad and got ground parmesan cheese from and "green can" that was put in a small metal bowl to look like something better. Salad was terrible, appetizer was bruschetta, had maybe 3 unripe tomatoes on it, regular bread like you get at walmart grocery store and cheap mozzarella cheese melted on it, terrible!!!! Settled for a steak and surprisingly enough it was good, wife has shrimp and it was good also. Before meal came out to table, hostess lady came to table and took our bread and brought a to go box for the appetizer we didn't eat like she wanted us to leave. Asked what was problem, we haven't received our meal yet and she got attitude and left. When I complained to server, by the way he was great, he apologized and started making excuses for her and ended up giving us 2 free desserts that we ended up taking home to eat and he discounted our entire meal by $15. Really doubt I go back here, just not worth it and food didn't make up for attitude and bad atmosphere!! Extremely noisy and way to many people in there to be "social distancing"
The service was excellent. The food was marginal and very limited menu. The music/band was very good!
There was live music outside and it seemed like the staff inside was a bit frenzied. Our waiter warned that food might be slow, but it actually came out quickly. They ran out of Prosecco and my date got the last mini bottle, which the waiter had difficulty opening. After I ordered a different glass of wine, he brought it to me in a plastic cup!?! My date and I laughed but it was very off putting. We took a clean water glass from an empty table nearby and poured my drink into it so we could at least have a toast. The food was very good, however, so no real harm done. They just lose points for service and ambience.
This review was extremely hard to write as I don't think circumstances were typical. Restaurants in the state are just coming out of Covid and I know staff is new and understaffed.
With that said, here was our experience. We had made reservations not knowing that there was a band playing on the patio. When we arrived for our 6:30 reservation, there was an attendant directing cars to park across or down the street. It took at least 10 minutes for someone to seat us inside. No one checked that we even had a reservation. We were given water and warm bread and dipping sauce by the bus girl. But we waited awhile before our server showed up, then they were out of menus. When he brought us menus, it wasn't the options on the internet, but a very tapered menu with only a handful of options. We ordered dirty martinis, but the bartender said she didnt have any way to make them dirty. My husband ordered wine and received it in a plastic cup because they were out of glasses. We ordered a steak and chicken parmesan, which were delicious, but my husband asked for a pasta side and got vegetables. The waiter just shrugged. My husband ate his vegetables. We had an attractions coupon, but we didnt even use it because we figured it would take someone an hour to process. I'm not saying we wont be back, but I'm giving them at least a few months to figure things out.
Every time I have ordered, whether inside or carry out, the food has been superb and the service excellent.
We were given a limited menu which surprised us. Some of the food was cold. They ran out of a particular pasta. Our waitress was great though.
Wow. Ordered a ribeye and it was beyond well done. Was suppose to be medium. So they make me a new one and bring it out. This one isn’t even cooked. 98% raw. Unbelievable. This is what happens when you send something back. Take this place off my list.
Awesome evening. Thanks to Giovanni’s for allowing a party of 10.
We were seated quickly. They initially sat us at a table with folding chairs. I asked them to get us some real chairs. Food came out quickly. Food was good but not exceptional. Paid $25-30 per dish.
We enjoy eating inside because it's more intimate. The food is incredibly delicious, especially the oysters rockefeller ❤ our waiter John was excellent as well.
We wanted to go out on a date night on Saturday March 20 and saw Giovanni’s had entertainment so we thought that would be nice. Our server was not wearing their mask over their nose. After the 4th stop at our table I finally had to say something. The server had experience so they knew all about wearing a mask, even knew how to tighten it up so it didn’t keep slipping down. That tells me they just didn’t want to wear a mask.
When we ordered our food I was told they didn’t have lobster when most of their menu items contained lobster. I said ok give me a few minutes to review the menu again. We were all set I ordered veal and my husband ordered swordfish. The server came back to our table to tell us they were out of swordfish. We asked them to go back to the kitchen and let us know what else they didn’t have as an option. We got our meal and the food was mediocre as far as taste goes. I had veal rollatini. I got to very small rolls they were appetizer size, my husband ordered filet mignon, it was also very small. We are glad they had entertainment because that made the night very enjoyable. We came to this restaurant many years ago and didn’t have a good time that’s why we stayed away. We gave it a second chance after many years and still very disappointed.
The people that work there are lovely and clearly doing their best but not enough help and the restaurant was clearly at Full Capacity. I'm not from North Carolina but is that even legal? if I get Covid I certainly know where it was from. Live entertainment was superb but I hope to never return until the food and service is better. Sit at the bar instead, enjoy the atmosphere and drink a liquid dinner.
We've enjoyed Giovanni's for decades. It is our favorite Italian Restaurant in Guilford County. The food is plentiful and delicious.
This was my first tim going to Giovanni’s. Some of the reviews i saw were pretty negative so i was somewhat worried about what the would be experience. But im glad that i had an excellent first time there! I will be going again. The food was A1, the staff was very nice to and my guest i brought. The outside sitting area was PERFECT! Beautiful surroundings!i could have sat out there all day. I think your experience with depend on what kind of attitude YOU go in there with. If you treat people with kindness and respect, well then that is what you will receive. I imagine the bad reviews were from people that were perhaps ALSO giving some negative vibes and energy back to the staff as well. When you go just enjoy yourself and relax...they will take care of you.
Best experience. Loved it. The short girl
who had been working there for a while was super nice and deserves the world.
Our server was great. The food was horrible. Lasagna, lobster ravioli both came out Cold while our the 3rd entree came out piping hot, but overcooked and hard to eat. Totally overpriced.
This was our first trip here. We were seated in the main dining room at a small table with two plastic folding chairs. The servers were doing their best but were a little overwhelmed at times. Long stretches of time before our server would stop by the table. The food was delicious and well plated. After dinner we asked to see the dessert menu and for two cups of coffee. We were politely told that they didn’t have any coffee. Overall was a satisfactory dinner.
Too overbooked and no one manning host area to provide information. Due to overbooking, no parking and location not amenable to park elsewhere.
Overcooked and thin meats. Disorganized staff and very average to below average food. Nice bar and decor. They claimed not to know what OpenTable was but did their best to fit us in...be careful if you're planning a group, I would call them to confirm.
Place was so crowded. Obviously not following COVID guidelines.
Brian was the man! This is my first review ever because the experience was that great. Brian used our names and really personalized the dinner for us. The food was also great! Next time I’m in town I will visit again.
We arrived at 5pm for our reservation. We had a party of 9 and we were seated about 5:15. We ordered appetizers and a bottle of wine. We didn’t see our server very much and she offered no drinks except for water and the wine. We ordered the main entrees and they seemed to take a longer than expected time to prepare. The main concern was how they were delivered to the table. The first 4 came out and it was at least 10 minutes before the next 3 came to the table. Finally the last one came out for my grandson almost 25 minutes after the first 4 had arrived. I have honestly never had anything like that happen before. It was a disappointing experience for my wife’s birthday dinner.
We had a lovely time spending our Valentine's Day dinner at Giovanni's, a day later :) Highly recommended!!
The service here needs a serious upgrade. The food definitely needs a serious improvement. I ordered the oyster Rockefeller & the cheese was literally rock hard, the spinach was not fully cooked, the whole thing looked disgusting. Then for the main course Filet & Lobster .. the steak was to be well done.. it was damn near raw .. blood flooded the plate into the unseasoned squash & zucchini. Almost a $200 bill and the service was terrible & the food was very disappointing. Never will I ever return to this restaurant. An excuse of it being a busy weekend was gave, which makes it even more disappointing. This restaurant can’t keep up with other fine dining restaurants busy or not. I’ll put Giovannis in the same category as McDonald’s. #Disgusting & that’s my honest feedback.
Very busy. Normally good for a restaurant- made my wife and I a little nervous in COVID-world. Food was so outstanding my wife called it stupid-good! Truly wonderful cuisine! Small space and somewhat cramped more than cozy. Friendly staff, but busy on top of busy - small details like an upgrade salad or just keeping drinks and bread supplied was a little overwhelming for the serving folks and while all wore masks, not all were really trying to stay spaced apart. In the environment prior to COVID, this is common and accepted- lots of rushing.
Hard place to have a nice quiet dinner. But the food is truly stupid-good. We will probably get take out next time or try another place. Take care
excellent and friendly service, great food and atmosphere! can't wait to go back!
We love going to half price wine night and getting a pizza and a salad at Giovanni’s. It’s simple and delicious! IMO, best pizza in Greensboro!
