Waitress disappeared during our meal. We had to repeatedly ask for simple services like water and drink refills. Food was poorly prepared. We did not receive our meals until 50 minutes after ordering.
We came here for NYE and they acted like they were the busiest they'd ever been. Having lived in big cities (Seoul, LA) I've seen when restaurants are ACTUALLY busy. This place was not nearly as busy as the staff kept insisting it was. Despite having a reservation and arriving right on time for it, my party of 8 had to awkwardly wait about 10 minutes for them to set up our table. Having such a large party waiting around the tiny entry area was really awkward, we were in the way a LOT. We were finally seated and our waiter was actually wonderful! I felt bad he was given such circumstances. He told us our food would take a while to come to us, and he was right. Firstly, we were given salads with the "house dressing." The salad was poorly made, with un-ripened tomatoes and disgusting raw mushrooms. The dressing itself tasted like nothing-- just oil. My partner and I ordered the fettucine alfredo as an appetizer, which arrived cold. When our entrees did finally come, my seafood pasta was watery, and the shrimp was overcooked. We didn't bother with dessert. I have been to Giovanni's in the past (I grew up in the area) and have certainly enjoyed my experience there before-- But perhaps don't try them on a supposedly "busy" night. I think there was a sense of tension in the air having it be a holiday night that made everyone want to act as if they were busy-- A folie imposée of sorts.
I think the restaurant must have been overwhelmed/under staffed for New Year’s Eve, service was awful!
Took forever just to get water; oddly other tables seemed to get waited on and served after we were seated. Don’t know if the waitress was new or just didn’t care.
The main entree was brought out (which took forever) and about 15 minutes later the accompanying vegetable was brought out; my guest had already finished her entree.
One of my guests asked the waitress if she could speak to the manger, guess the manager didn’t care as she never came by.
Sadly, my guests were 2 doctors and could have left a nice tip, but didn’t - I know they will never return and tell others to do the same
New Years Eve reservation, so crowed as expected. Waited a few minutes to be seated while hostess discussed options for another party without reservation. They had a special, limited, menu for evening, which was not advertised on day reservation was made, 2 days earlier. Had a chicken and sausage dish, which came with salad and veggies, asked for side of pasta in lieu of salad and veggies and was told there may be an additional charge, I said I was ok with that, however if I was to be charged extra for the pasta, I would like the salad and veggies as well, which I would take along. I was served the pasta side, no salad or veggies …………… but at the end of the meal was charged extra for pasta side.
Worst overall dining experience I can remember. From start to finish we were disappointed...food is ok, ambiance is ok but service level was terrible and we will never go back
Even though the food was very good, the restaurant was under staffed for New Year's Eve. There were long wait times before the waitress would check in. I was not able to order iced tea. I think $10 for 4 shrimp in a shrimp cocktail was a little much. The salad came after we had already started eating our dinner. The portion size on the Shrimp Scampi was a little small. And lastly, I received the wrong check. I'm not anticipating going back in the near future.
Food was not good.
First time there. Food was excellent, Paige our server was very friendly and helpful. we’d go back and ask for her again. Definitely a place we will frequent.
While the food was reasonable, the pizza ordered by my dining companion was cool, not hot and the service was extremely slow. It took exceedingly long time to get our order - maybe because he ordered a pizza? Not sure. But not a thrill.....
Really bad experience.
Great food, drinks, atmosphere, and service! One of our favorite places to dine and drink.
The so-called Christmas Party was okay but all ruined by the obnoxious singing in the bar by a one-man band that could not sing and was so loud you could not talk to our guests not to mention that there was not one, I say again, not one Christmas song sung or not one piece of Christmas music played. Sooooo disappointing. Never again!
I honestly hate that I have to write this review but I’ve never had anything like this happen through open table. We made a reservation for Giovanni’s for a party of five (there were several openings between 6:45-7:45 or so) but when we arrived we were told that our reservation wouldn’t be honored because Giovanni’s had taken several large reservations and obviously hadn’t updated their openings for the evening with open table. They still use a physical book to take reservations so I can’t imagine how often it happens that there’s a disconnect between what open table says is available and what the restaurant actually has openings for. It’s frustrating but if you want a reservation here I’d recommend calling to either confirm that what you’re seeing through open table is correct or just making the reservation through Giovanni’s initially. Giovanni’s either needs a better system of updating what’s available for the night between their book and open table or they need to get off open table. I hope this is helpful when booking with them.
First time we tried the restaurant. Always looking for new great places. Food was delicious.
We found Giovanni’s on OpenTable when traveling for a college sports event. The room was very pleasant, service friendly and attentive. The kitchen was able to accommodate a few dietary restrictions gracefully and food tasted great with reasonable portions. We’d go back if in town again.
The food was bland and very expensive. I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo pasta with chicken and the chicken had no flavor or seasoning. Would not recommend.
My wife and I had not been here in about 8 months. They renovated the restaurant and it looks great. The service from the moment we stepped in to the moment we left was outstanding. The chef came out to talk with us about our meals, which I thought was a nice touch. They had live music which made the experience perfect.
It was a very nice restaurant, friendly people but the food wasn't good-
Just simply a great meal with great service. Mom has service dog, they went out of their way to get him water and make sure he was good too. Bread and oil was great. Mozzarella Giovanni app was amazing. All meals, drinks and desserts were great. Will be back.
We were 5 min early for our reservations. It took another 35 minutes to be seated. We waited in the bar and was never served there. I checked twice with reception but she acted like she forgot. The table service was slow and a lady apologized about our server being new. The food quality was edible, but very unremarkable. They tried to overcharge me for our wine. I ordered a Cabernet, they brought a Merlot saying it was all they had. I agreed to accept the Merlot. Then they charged me for the Cabernet which is obviously higher. That was ultimately resolved with 3 different people involved. I will not return.
It was crazy and chaotic with market in town and they handled a crushing crowd of people very well. Food was great even though so crowded.
It’s so nice to visit NC and have an Italian Restaurant that carries all of our favorite traditions in culinary excellence.
The price of the food is not equivalent the quantity of food that was served and The manager of the establishment was not welcoming at all.
We had a most delightful dining experience primarily due to the outstanding service from our server Mona. She was wonderful, knowledgable and truly a refreshing and lovely person. Would recommend the food very highly and will definitely make it back my next visit to Greensboro.
Awesome food and service even during the busy Furniture Market!
This was for a birthday. We made reservations through Open Table, when we arrived they didn’t have any record of our reservations. The food was fantastic!
Very relaxing quiet atmosphere. Tasteful soft background music. Service was outstanding and food was excellent. We plan to go again soon. Highly recommend
A hidden gem. Nice decor, fantastic service and great Italian food!
Excellent food and service. There were four different meals at our table and all looked delicious. The bread and dipping oil w/herbs and spices was the best I’ve had. Salads were fresh and delicious as well. Will definitely go back when in that area again.
Food was not as good as previously experienced.
Bread was warm and flaky-quite good. Pasta with shrimp was delicious. I had a veal dish that was pretty good. Wait staff was so kind and friendly. A great value and wonderful food!
We love Giovanni’s Service is exceptional. Food is fantastic
Shrimp parm was undercooked - shrimp were gray inside. Waitress was overwhelmed even though only half of the tables were full and none were particularly big. Waited a long time for food - can't imagine how long you have to wait when restaurant is full. Won't be returning.
Food was great service was suspect.
I really enjoyed my birthday dinner at Giovanni's last night. The service was absolutely wonderful, the food was excellent and the ambience was delightful. We will certainly return and definitely order the filet of sole again. Thank you Giovanni's for such a memorable evening.
Poor service. Took a long time to greet us at the table and the food took forever to come out. When it did my meal was different than what I had ordered. Having said that the wine was good and the waitress was pleasant
This is the best Italian restaurant in north Carolina, I had joy as a waitress she was amazingly good!!! Thank you
Always enjoy our time here!
From the time we entered everyone was warm & friendly.
We started with mussels & they were delicious. We are fussy about our sauce & this did not disappoint! My husband had veal parm & I had chicken wth sausage. Both were excellent. We were here for the pga tournament & lucky enough to find this gem! Staff & chef were wonderful. I don’t usually write reviews but felt I had to.
Giovanni’s, Greensboro...see you next year!
Can't wait to find another reason to go to Greensboro and have dinner here. It was so delicious.
