Excellent food, environment, service.
And valet parking
Love the vibe but it’s so loud inside hard to hear people your with.
Also made a reservation at 8:30 and didn’t get seated till little after 9 👎
Delicious food. Excellent service. Lovely interior. Gioia will stand the test of time. This is the real deal.
One of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. Weekends are really busy to reservations are a must, but you can usually get in during the week. Great menu, the staff is amazing (and they remember neighbor regulars, which is great. The food is some of the best Italian in the west loop.
Great food and presentation. But too crowded and too noisey
Staff was amazing and treated my toddler to a great experience!
It was all a loud rush, being forced to move too quickly, not enough servers a d the food wasn't good enough to justify the huge roar of noise and terrible service....
Great vibe for the area and even better Northern Italian food.
I'm bringing the whole family back to meet with Chef Federico!
It was great to see him engage and grate the truffles on our pasta at table side..
Great dining experience. Our service was exceptional and the restaurant has a great ambiance!!!
This is my new favorite Italian restaurant. Everything was amazing!! My favorites were the octopus with polenta the fried artichoke salad the table side prepared pasta and the Branzino. We had a bottle of the super Tuscan wine they were featuring that evening. Outstanding!! Davide the manager is also very charming. Just an incredible experience.
Everything about our meal was perfect. The burrata with the tomato confit and rapini fritelle had surprising and thoughtful flavors. The pastas had a simple elegance to them, much like we had in Italy. The service was spot and ... and the sound level actually allows for a normal conversation. We savored every moment and can't wait to return!
Just excellent. Perfect for a special occasion or just the treat you deserve anytime!
Superlativa come sempre. Quando ne abbiamo l’occasione ci torniamo per poter gustare il buon cibo italiano della nostra terra. Ieri sera ho preso baccalà con polenta e risotto con castagne, formaggi e tartufo. What’s else! Grazie chef
Excellent food, a beautiful restaurant and the service was great. Looking forward to going back. Their pasta was delicious and so authentic. Someone wrote on Yelp that it tasted like Chef Boyardee- they are clueless. Must be a competitor/hater. It was excellent!!
Highly recommend, delicious
Sound is quite loud - decor is beautiful but could use fabric to absorb
Our second visit, not as good as the first. Main reason is the whole fish we ordered was bland, almost no taste. The appetizer, salad and bread were very good.
Our reservation was at 7:30 and we were not sat until 8:35. The hosts said "Go have a drink at the bar we'll let you know when the table is ready". The manager was extremely nice and got us a free round of shots. He apologized for the delay in our table. Our server was also nice and attentive. The appetizers were very good, however the mains were extremely disappointing. Many of the dishes were dry and not very flavorful. Overall I would not go back, not worth the wait or the money.
Fantastic restaurant with excellent food and ambience
Very disappointing. Service was so slow. Noise level was terrible. Couldn’t have a conversation. So crowded. I guess they don’t realize we are in a pandemic. Drinks were not good. Charcuterie was pedestrian. The table side pasta which is supposed to be so good tasted like Chef Boyardee. Branzino was good.
All in all… way too expensive for what you get. Much better Italian restaurants in Chicago.
Very noisy place. We ate buttata of very low quality. Ossobuco was ok but risotto was tasteless and quite expensive. We don’t recommend this place.
Very unique menu - we'll be back. Tortellini was amazing.
Food was 10/10 - even the simple things like the charcuterie board was really well done. Restaurant is very loud, so depending on your personality type or group that could be a good or bad thing.
Everything is very authentically Italian- fresh and delicious. Ambiance is intimate, stylish and upscale. The service (thank you Carlos!) was attentive without being too “hovering.” The breads are superb - nothing like fresh focaccia and ciabatta with delicious olive oil. We had the octopus appetizer, which I highly recommend. A nice wine list complements every course. We sampled across the menu and especially enjoyed the branzino (sea bass). We will be back for sure!
A perfect birthday dinner!
Everything was wonderful except they were running an hour late on reservations. Expect a very very long wait even with a reservation
We came back to Gioa to celebrate my husbands birthday. We wanted a night for just the two of us, as next day we had a birthday party for him. I made the reservations for 8pm, and asked for a more private table if possible. Well, we were seated at 8:30 and place was sooo busy, and wait was long. The bummer was that table we were seated on was not private at all, but squat in between other people ( I just hate those type of tables in general). So, my 4 star goes for that as I understand they were busy, so it’s ok, but on the other side we already waited 30 min pass our reservation time so I wonder how we couldn’t be accommodated. Huge plus that they did notice that it was my husbands birthday so they did bring him lil desert with candle to celebrate and that was wonderful surprise so I really appreciate that. Overall, place is busy because it’s good, and we will be back again.
We got seated 30 minutes after our reservation time. We ordered an appetizer, salad and entrees. The server came back to tell us our first choice of eggplant parmesan was no longer available (the only time he checked in on us) and we scrambled to order another entre replacement. The appetizer (truffle house chips) came out at reasonable time, but the salad never came until after we were served our entrees (an hour after we got seated) and asked our server about it. He then had the salad AND another order of appetizer served. If the food rocked our worlds, we wouldn't have minded the long wait for it. Instead, the salad was bland (was there even dressing mixed into it?) and the entrees were mediocre. The salad and appetizer (best tasting part of the entire meal) were comped by the server, but this was a horrible experience we don't care to have repeated.
Crowded and way too loud . Waiters were bumping into people. The air conditioning was first , to cold ( it was 37 degrees outside) then way to hot into the night. Antipasti was boring including the three small pieces of octopus and literally three small pieces of fried artichoke with wilted endive. The pasta dishes were excellent . I don’t know if I’d go there again. The bar is small and was also crowded although the bartenders were excellent and receptive . Cocktails were excellent . With wine, over $120 / person which is ok but would expect better food and experience for that price .
Food, wine, and service was excellent.
Lovely space, but it’s much too loud. Not energetic, LOUD. The noise level hits you immediately upon entering. Went on a Saturday night and had to shout across the table to my partner and the server had to lean in and shout to us whenever he came to the table.
Super Italian & we love that. Amazing food and drinks. I am definitely coming back :)
Overall everything was fine. Not a place or a meal I would recommend or go out of way to have again. Nothing special. Nothing bad.
Five-star service, fantastic food and a wonderful overall experience. We will return!
Had a wonderful dinner with my son, I will return often
Such a beautiful space with comfortable seating and a great bar area. The bussers and the server were all charming and generous. The server was quite conscientious of my husband's allergies. Food was gorgeous and delicious. They helped us not to order too much (it was hard to choose). Server cheerfully shared information on our dishes' regions and was just exact on timing (not hovering but also didn't have to look for him). We asked for help with wine and the suggestion was spot on! Great pricepoint and right in our style preferences. They also brought a candle for the birthday boy's dessert. A lovely evening for the 4th time.
Great food and service. Noise level is fairly high
Beautifully designed restaurant. Service was excellent. Food incredible. Great pacing of the meal. Can’t wait to return.
Only knock is for valet not wearing a mask at all in the car. But nothing to do with restaurant.
Food was delicious. Very authentic dishes. Noise was terribly loud unable to hear my husband across the table from me. Will definitely go again.
Experienced this relatively new restaurant for the first time. You can tell that ownership & staff are Italian. The food is cooked perfectly, the staff is very attentive, and while the restaurant has a classy look to it, the atmosphere was very laid back. This one will become one of the more popular ones in the city.
Service was amazing. GM Carlo wonderful host. Food was incredible.
