Our experience was wonderful. I took my boyfriend here for Valentine’s Day. Exceptional service, great food, and a lovely environment. Will definitely be returning!

It’s overpriced New York style pizza with horrible servers who don’t pack all the food up after.

Gioia never disappoints, and not just because the pizzas are perfectly made with delicious toppings. The antipasti and secondi are creative and satisfying, too. It’s hard not to order the whole menu. Try the cauliflower soup, velvety with a little citrus flavor and perfect spicy kick. The beef & pork meatballs are sumptuous without being heavy. There’s rarely a miss on the menu. The staff are friendly and welcoming and remember names. Dining at Gioia is like having dinner at a good friend’s place, only better.

Great service, always. Meatballs are great, Caesar salad is always on point, pies vary but are usually very delicious. Great neighborhood spot.

Gioia is one of the few restaurants on Polk St. that is openly baby friendly, which is why we chose to go there for an early New Years dinner.

In our reservation, we included that we would be a couple dining with a baby and that we would be requesting a high chair. On arrival not only were we sat at the smallest table in the restaurant, the space where they put the highchair would make it impossible for a parent to sit next to their child, since the adults would have to sit together across from the baby—leaving the baby to be alone on one side of the table in the highchair.

Explaining how the table wouldn't work because it's unsafe to the host and manager, neither would sit us at a different table, making us wait on the side while they sat other customers that had arrived after us.

In the end, we were forced to sit outside on a cold winter night with a baby because the restaurant refused to sit us at one of the empty tables that were open for the entire time we dined there.

Going to Gioia was a mistake and if we had been able to find another table somewhere else after being told to eat outside, we would have never given them our business.

Stumbled on this gem. Buratta pizza was dynamite! Great prices, value and most importantly... they do it right. Not overwhelming with menu options. This is a must try.

Cool neighborhood restaurant that was opened late - great post symphony bite to eat. Service was friendly and my visiting family loved the pizza and fresh ingredients. Sadly they didn’t have any gluten free options, so there wasn’t much I could eat on the menu other than soup or salad, which is pretty surprising for a restaurant in San Francisco in this day and age. It’s only a different kind of flour and an option that for me means I won’t be able to dine there again. Too bad.

Gioia is our favorite neighborhood gem. Suitable for date night cozied up in a booth, everyday dining at the bar, or people watching from the sidewalk facing stools while brunching on the weekend - every experience is better than the last. We frequent Gioia and love the food (MUST haves are the meatballs and focaccia, sausage pizza with jalapeños, fig pizza, and breakfast pizza), people, vibe, and ambiance. The staff is wonderful and treats you like family whether it's your first time or 100th. Dinner is great, but brunch may be even better - their "hangover pasta" (bucatini and their induplicable spin on pasta carbonara) is our favorite weekend treat. We LOVE Gioia!!

This is my go to Italian place for a special gathering, but not too special,as its reasonably priced. It's a bit noisy due to the configuration, alas, still good. I go for meeting friends at brunch, or a special dinner. Yummy, neighborly, and...well what else do you need?
