the place is always hopping. my second visit. go on live music Thursdays.
Just a bit too lazy to venture outdoors, we stayed in the hotel and checked out the Gin Parlour for a night time snack. Decent atmosphere, semi quiet, some children running around, but nothing that bothered us. It is a hotel lobby after all.
For drinks, we had a margarita and a bees knees. High marks for the bartender. I tried the kim chi fried chicken sandwich. Crunchy and tasty but the bun was on the dry side. The fries were fresh and crunchy - I liked them. The smoked chicken salad was fresh, well made, and big enough. My wife couldn't finish it.
The waitress was friendly and efficient. She was all over the place and could have used some help.
This was the second time I stayed at the Barclay and the second time I tried the Gin Parlour. I'll eat there again. It's reliable and convenient if you don't feel like leaving the hotel for a bite.
Perfect for a business meeting. The fish is quite good.

I was meeting a business contact there - too noisy to be able to talk without screaming at one another. If it was a business meet up, it would have been really a cool place to be on a Wednesday evening (live music).
Drinks were good but a little annoyed that when ordered one of their gin drinks (which was excellent), i also as for just a club soda with it. Apparently, the bartender decided i needed a bottle of club soda at $8 - if you're going to bring that out, i think it warrants a suggestion. I simply wanted a non-alcoholic drink with my alcoholic drink.
I would absolutely go again however as this was a ver lively place - just nit great for any sort of conversation while the band is playing.
We were there for Jazzy Wednesday and the Gin Parlour didn't disappoint. Highly recommend to anyone!
There was no host to greet us. We waited over 10 minutes for someone to sit us. A maintenance worker started painting the wall right behind us half way through our meal. The manager came over to ask if we wanted to be moved and gave us attitude because we asked if the painter could stop painting literally right behind us and wait until after we left. Needless to say, the smell of paint ruined the meal. This was a business lunch that did not go well.
Out of the Midtown lunch crowd hustle and bustle, big comfy chairs and no rushed service. You can hear your table conversation and not worry about someone eavesdropping.
The service was good; the Cobb salad was fresh and crisp. The quiet ambiance was the big win.
Way too expensive and desolate
Our family of 4 had New Year’s Eve dinner here and were very happy we did. It wasn’t crowded yet busy enough for a festive feel. Service was accommodating and attentive enough. We weren’t rushed in any way and had a wonderful send off into the new year.
My wife and I ate there on Christmas night. The food was great!
Reserved for breakfast but they weren’t serving breakfast at the time of our reservation. Then service was extremely slow and inattentive.
Milton took 30 minutes to bring us a glass of water. Served other tables that arrived long after us way before us.
I was quite disappointed in the service.

The bill ALWAYS comes with extra 15% charge included for tip, which means the waiters really do NOT care about their service because they will get the tip no matter how bad their service was. This is ridiculous! RIDICULOUS is the word!
Went for Restaurant Week Lunch. Very slow service for lunch during the week (normal expectation a business lunch break to be 45-60 mins) - had to receive dessert to go. Food was average.
Restaurant located just right next to the lobby and the bar very well decorated. Surprised us when we asked for the restaurant week menu and the waiter looked like he had no idea about it. But the options were nice and good!
A group of us went for Restaurant Week and glad we did. While the service was pretty good, the food was substandard. The poke lacked flavoring but was an ample size. The steak did not melt in your mouth and also lacked flavoring while the gnocchi served with it look like 2 burnt ends off a bbq. Yes that was 2 pieces of gnocchi served with the steak. I think the place is meant more for like cocktails or a quick bite to rest from walking around near Grand Central.
Everything was overpriced, especially since the food was boring.

plus including 15% tip is bad. I always leave 20%---but since you decided you had tp charge 15%....your waiter lost out....and second thought 15% for a buffet is sad too!! I direct many business meets here--- I run an executive search firm, but I cant use your restaurant any more because of above.
Very convenient , great but pricy breakfast buffet but everything that you want and extremely fresh . There is no rushing here so let them know when you want the check !
Nice hotel restaurant
Hotel, incredible. Bar, incredible. Service, terrible. Because everything else at the hotel was amazing, my mom and I were in shock over this. Easter/birthday brunch: Dishes were left to pile up. Never asked how food was or if we needed anything additional, or even water refills. Easter brunch at $65 per person, I would have hoped for a little bit better service from friendlier staff. Particularly having staff speak speak ill of another employee within earshot. Maybe it’s because everyone else at the hotel went so far above and beyond that this ended up being a bit of a letdown. Food was good though.
The ambiance and décor of this restaurant is inviting and attractive but disguises some poor service and no distinction between the bar /lounge and what is termed "the restaurant" - they are the same. Our server did not write any of our order down and delivered my wife's Ceasar salad with all of the items she asked NOT to be on the salad. On top of that she whisked away the Shrimp Cocktail before we were finished and added a 15% gratuity to a meal for TWO people. Great for drinks but skip the food.
Very poor considering it was a 5 star hotel. Sloppy service. I asked for a Caesar salad with strictly no added anchovies. It came with anchovies and when I sent it back they just removed the anchovies but the taste had permeated the entire salad.
The food was frankly poor . General feeling of 2 star bistro.
Please consider this place a convenient hotel lobby bar, and not a destination to enjoy high end cocktails or even learn about different gins. The team seemed to have little knowledge or care about the different bottles on the gin list. When we asked about what gin they had that would best go in to an extra dirty martini the waiter suggested Bombay or Beefeater, and once we ordered they came out with such speed and low temperature it seemed like they poured them out of a tap. Again, this is a standard hotel lobby bar and not a "parlour" or a place to chase gin at.
We loved it. The Food was very good,we will go there again. It was a quite atmosphere and was great to keep a conversation we did not have to jell.
$40 for breakfast buffet is absurd, even for NYC.
Too noisy for a business discussion.
The service was excellent and the noise level was conducive to conversation. The menu on the OpenTable website and the menu on the restaurant itself’s website were significantly different than the menu presented to us by our server. It’s not easy to change s reservation during holiday season in NY, but had it been a more favorable season, we would have looked for a different location. The portions were adequate and the entre quality was ok, but something as simple as a bread tray was not provided nor offered. We would not recommend it to our friends!
The food is excellent, we had the scallops for our entree and the octopus for appetizers and a bottle of red. The wait staff are attentive and knowledgeable. There are no windows here so that was kind of odd.
you need an intelligent headwaiter who recognizes repeat customers and makes them feel "special"

The salads here are pretty good for lunch especially when you add shrimp or chicken .
This is a great place for a client breakfast . The buffet has healthy food ( oatmeal , fruit, granola , fresh smoothies etc) and that spread of eggs, potatoes sausage , rolls that you shouldn't have but is sooo good.
The service may be slow but this place turns out an excellent burger and a kick*** martini ! It feels very clubby , a good place for a late dinner or drinks with colleagues .
My partner was using the walker but the waiter intended to take us to a far end corner table from accessible entrance. I indicated that it was too far and uncomfortable corner. The nasty waiter just waved both hands in the air and said we could take any table .

Food was extremely underwhelming. We did the restaurant week menu and the Octopus was very chewy and hard to eat. The dessert was also pedestrian. Cocktails and wine were both good. Overall very disappointing. Not worth the $90 bill and included gratuity.
We ate here for lunch during restaurant week and we enjoyed every bite.
What a nice time we had.

Truly bad service. Mediocre food. Honestly, i haven't seen a service so bad in any descent-looking restaurant.
Business meals should not go on for two hours. Period. I wish the service was better and faster, just what I would expect from a place like Gin Parlour.
