Nestled within the Domain Road enclave in South Yarra with indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the stunning Royal Botanic Gardens sits Gilson.

Gilson’s intimate dining room is available for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week and caters for large groups and private dining events.

Gilson offers an all day menu focusing on Italian cuisine and seasonal flavours.

A neighbourhood favourite due to its relaxed setting, friendly staff, fabulous drinks list and dishes such as the ‘avocado bruschetta’ for breakfast, the ‘Seafood Linguine' for lunch or dinner, and a 'tiramisu' for dessert.

Wood fired pizza is also available for lunch and dinner cooked in the custom built oven.

Gilson's brunch service is available for walk-ins with reservations available from midday.

Unfortunately, Gilson is trading on its name. We have eaten here many times and have watched the quality decline over the years. Our Spaghettone Cacio e Pepe last night was inedible. It was just too salty. My wife and I both had one bite and pushed it away. We let the waiter know about the problem and were greeted with a shrug of the shoulders. This dish went back to the kitchen uneaten but certainly not removed from the bill. The kingfish was also dry and a little chewy, though the cucumber dressing that comes with it has potential. A pity that we won't be heading back to Gilson after many years. The room remains enticing but in the competitive Melbourne food scene there are just too many better options.

We absolutely love Gilson. Fun atmosphere and the most delicious Italian food. Great value for money and can't wait to come back. The staff are so welcoming and helpful. A special shout out to Fay who goes above and beyond to make your dining experience memorable.

Entrees & pizza were delicious. Pasta was just OK. Serving of Tiramisu was enormous! We dined on a Friday night & it was VERY noisy & cold. Unfortunately we were seated near the door & a cold blast was felt every time the door opened. Service was friendly & efficient.

We had a very poor experience. The table was not available at the time we booked in advance. No apologies from the staff. They said you just have to wait at the bar. Then the bar service was very slow. Yes it gets worse. We then noticed a group of 3 guys turned up without a booking and were given a table straight away no problem. It makes you wonder why book and turn up on time. A shame the food and the service once we had sat down 40 minutes late was very good.
